See, this is how you be "mature" rated. BY COVERING MATURE THEME PROPERLY.
And also the hime getting rekt by Mika in exchanging words. That's hilarious.

I really liked how effortlessly the show could bounce from incredibly normal straight into weird delusional fantasy without dropping a beat. It wasn't always flawless and sometime it was just straight-up goofy, but it was always entertaining. The Boss Sequence when Director-san was attending the meeting with Author-san was probably the best bit.
I also laughed in the final episode when the Treasure Boat had tyres on it

They already lost the first tournament in the first season (summer one I think) and the next one is the big winter one, which im assuming they'll win. Basically the same structure as Kuroko.
Edit: Oh yeah Gundam IBO 2
I really hope Mikazuki and Atra get together. They are a really cute couple.
This was an enjoyable start to the second season. The show once again looks really nice, and it does a good job of reintroducing the cast and giving us some funny moments with them, as well as setting up a new rival. This show remains a sports anime that doesn't necessarily do anything unique, but executes really well on the basics of the genre. I'm excited for the rest of the season, because I'm sure we'll be getting some excellent matches that are up to the standards of the first season.
I dunno what happened I sat down to have lunch and watch an episode and then another... and another... and another... and suddenly it's 11pm and I've finished watching the entire series
That was seriously amazing. If I had to make a crit, it's that the last episode didn't have any sense of 'climax' or urgency because the chief difficulty that I was worried wouldn't actually eventuate got resolved in the episode before it, so it all kinda floated around there.
I don't agree with any criticisms about Shirobako lacking emotion, but perhaps I'm more attuned to difficulties with creativity and the creative process.
While what you say about the final episode is true, it's only because the climax was Episode 23. The final episode exists as the denouement of the show. Episode 23 is the big emotional climax, and for the final episode we get a more low key episode that lets us see all of the characters working hard one last time, hits on a lot of the themes of the show, and has some really nice scenes. I really enjoyed the episode quite a lot. I think it would have been a mistake to try and top Episode 23, so instead I think the show handled things in a fairly realistic manner. The big snag the project was facing had been resolved, but they still needed to wrap everything up. It feels very realistic to working on such a project in real life, because everything isn't completely over even after you solve the biggest problem.
So I think it was very fitting for the last episode to involve them putting the finishing touches on everything, making sure everything got where it needed to be in a timely manner, and then having a party to celebrate it. It was a very Shirobako-esque ending.
All in all, a truly awesome show, and my Anime of the Year unless something truly remarkable happens in the next two months.
Well, ep 24 was the end of Aoi's question why she wants to work in the anime industry. The entire second half of the series was about the reasons and motivation of all kinds of people why they are working on anime - the produced anime was in that regard another layer in the narration.
Still good. I can't believe how not-bothered I am by the CG mecha fights in this show. This stuff is pretty well done and fun to watch. Feila seems all right as well. Gus though, I can tell is probably going to be my favourite character.
If I had to nitpick one thing, it's that the sound effects during the mecha action sounded a little wonky, though.
But all in all, I'm still really enjoying this show. I can't wait for the adventure to start.
The show is just slowly devolving into a generic anime tropes. We already have the loli who speaks in short sentences who doesn't know anything about the world, the 'cute' mascot character who thinks he's a badass but kawaii he's so small, and accusations of 'hentai' or 'lolicon'. At this rate next episode might as well be the beach episode.
So yeah. 4 episode rule but it's already starting to shit the bed.

Right, which is why the speech worked, but the bit before where they were all doing the last-rush felt a bit prefunctory because it was no longer the focus of the story. Of course, it still had to be done obviously, and it wasn't like the show was really trying to plug it for "oh no they won't deliver!" drama or anything, so
I will say that the world building and the characterization feels much more standard then what we are seeing IBO but I think Comet Lucifer is bringing better mech action to this season/ Indeed, if more 3D mech action look like this, I think it being the future would sit better with people. Also, still not shaking off those Eureka Seven parallels.
Oh yeah, I vaguely remember a few posts back in the day that would point out various parallels to real animation in Shirobako, or uncredited lookalike cameos and that kind of thing. Is that stuff collated somewhere, or do I need to go digging through that season's thread?
/edit tvtropes as expected has a lot of stuff. cheers tropes

What!? He didn't have an awkwardly painful reaction to a stacked girl only in a towel in his room!? Confirmed lolicon just like Felia said. Anywho loved the battle in this one and look forward to seeing more fighting and seeing more about this world. Moura reminds me of a Porygon.
So glad I got around to watch this, a head on take on existentialism with a pop-idol turned actress setting and it was really well done. Not exactly a review but just put my thoughts on the movie:
One of the first questions I asked myself after finishing it: did I ever doubt myself for not being true to myself? yes I have on multiple occasions so I presume it isn't unnatural for one to doubt but what do do with this doubt, that's what Perfect Blue was about. In Perfect Blue, doubt was a result of a commitment to a decision made years ago, perhaps, it wasn't an explicit commitment but something that had been decided subconsciously. The thing about decisions for long term plans is that there's no certainty that we will stick to it till the end, it isn't a matter of difficulty/hurdles, they are meant to overcome, rather reality hitting us, obliterating what we imagined/hoped for, leaving us discontent, or in some cases, we discover something new that really resonates with us, something that you think you're meant to do.
That is what happens for Mami in Perfect Blue,
she discovers acting but her subconscious commitment towards being an idol haunts her through hallucinations and nightmares
. She did become an idol but it wasn't what she truly wanted or at least, it was something that she wasn't content with and that's fine, it happens, you never know about some things until you try. She makes the decision to move to a different career fully aware that she was determined to be an idol singer at an earlier point. This gave rise to a doubt, that she might not be her 'true self', she might be a fake, this dilemma furthers to a point that she questions her very existence. Truth is, there is no real you or fake you, there is just you unless of course,
you have 'dissociative identity disorder' where a person subconsciously develops another personality without their own knowledge
. This is something the movie specifies in the most natural way, it's ingenious. The movie ends
with Mami saying "I'm the real me" reassuring that she has no such disorder and boy did that line hit the spot.
This isn't a story of how she rose to the top, it's a personal battle, something that's not restricted to 'switching careers'. Changing your decision doesn't make you any less true to yourself, you will remain yourself, you are what you decide. There is no need to constrain yourself to shackles of commitment, you learn new things which can potentially change your life and that's important to remember. Not everyone is going to be happy about it but at the end of the day, it's your life, you should do what makes you content, people may not understand that initially at least. That being said, commitments are definitely a good thing but they need to know their place, it doesn't apply everywhere especially when uncertainty is involved.
I honestly didn't plan on writing this long, it just went on and the more I thought about the film, the more it blew my mind.
This is a weird one. In theory, I should really like this, but in practice I can't bring myself to care much.
I'm not sure if I want to give it another episode or just drop it right now, but I'm currently leaning towards the latter.
Even though some of the info dump went right past me, the episodes themselves were quite good. The Gundam battles were pretty great and entertaining. Character wise all seem entertaining in their own way especially Orga and Mika. Now I'm curious on how Hime is going to play in all this, so hopefully it doesn't turn out like the Hime from Aldnoah Zero. Also fuck the adults, they're such cowards.
The Opening and Ending are great as well. Will continue to watch the series.
Well, it has nudity, and as we all know fanservice is literally the devil.
The fanservice isn't even that extreme. It's honestly been quite vanilla so far, with a couple yuri scenes and maybe 5-10 seconds of some consensual (and fairly tame) BDSM. The advertising and promotional material has been very upfront with exactly what the show was going to be; in fact I expected episode 1 to be a bit raunchier than it was.
I'm not sure what other people were expecting, frankly I don't see why there should even be an uproar in the first place. "Oh wow, this show really is as lewd as it promised to be."
They already lost the first tournament in the first season (summer one I think) and the next one is the big winter one, which im assuming they'll win. Basically the same structure as Kuroko.
I just think the series will last longer than Kurobas and that they really wouldnt win the big spring high tourney in their first year.
I think Kurobas writer wrote it in a way that kind of had to forced it to end after the winter cup, What would the series be without GoM and they had no successors. HQ at least introduces new non third years (kenma, lev (already animated his intro) or has powerful 2nd years in place for Karasuno (nishinoya, tanaka).
Going into Valkyrie Drive and being offended and turned off by fanservice is like watching porn and getting pissed and offended that people are having sex.

The calm before the storm episode, those three kids were adorable. Next episode is going to be interesting of course. Ojou-sama character was also like-able albeit her character development is a bit predictable.
Easily surpassing my expectations of how good it is so far. The battles have been great so far with how intense they've been in small encounters. The characters still need time to grow but I've liked the child soldiers so far. I just need some more scenes between Orga and Mika as I'm as swing some messed up Master/Servant relationship with how quickly Mika gets the gun and is prepared to kill. Of course Biscuit's sisters are called Cookie and Cracker. I'm getting tired of Kudella's tropey sheltered princess personality and hope she evolves somewhat. Martians may be evil but you can't deny how daper they look in those uniforms. The op is pretty great btw.
