I keep hoping that Jex is just exaggerating and being a bitter old man. But I can't even watch it yet because this is the first Hosoda movie ever which hasn't opened here so long after the JP release. No idea wtf is going on. Distribution fuckery probably.
In the US?
Funimation decided to go straight for the English this time.

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign Episode 24 Seraph of the End [END]

I wonder how all of this will play out in the manga since after the Guren v MikaYuu its all anime original.
I would hope there is no time skip or we at least find out what happened during the four months, also its really compelling with Yuu sustaining Mika exclusively. I wish he could turn Yuu, but his eyes were still green

Really compelling stuff with the battle between going the angel route or staying a demon, I think Asuramaru does a great job keeping Yuu from going too far and I hope it stays that way in the future.

Great epic anime that will always be on my top list, the YuuMika episode cemented its position. 10/10

It dawned on me recently that I've never actually watched this. I've seen dub clips on YouTube, but never sat down to watch the whole series. I gotta say I'm really enjoying it. By far one of the best harems I have ever watched. I love all the characters and antics. Also Sasami and Washu are best girls followed by Mihoshi, Ryoko, and Ayeka respectively.

Gonna watch My Daddy Long Legs next, I'm committing to this now, etch it in stone, no flip flopping. I think that I'll enjoy it a lot.

I was thinking of, maybe watching Patlabor or Re: Cutie Honey.

Is Inuyasha any good?

Inuyasha is one of those titles that I feel like you either really enjoy or can't stand. I don't know that it can really be compared to her 80s works (its too different, anyway), but I would say that it's solidly a much better series than Ranma 1/2. But it's really one of those shows that I find impossible to predict if anyone will like without them seeing it.

Inuyasha is kind of an interesting title in that it mixes the typical battle shounen formula with Takahashi's background in episodic comedy with light romance development. I think people who dislike Inuyasha usually come from the perspective of disliking how one of these reflects on the other. For example, fans of typical shounen works who feel that Inuyasha doesn't have enough of a sense of progression, or dislike the relatively small cast size (compared to a typical battle series that will introduce loads of new cast members and villains each arc, Inuyasha feels much cozier with a small central cast and mostly the same villains for the entire series), or the random diversions into episodic stories, romance development, etc. On the other hand, fans of those sorts of genres might dislike the more shounen aspects of Inuyasha interfering with what they'd like from a more typical Takahashi series, such as the constant fights, various arcs centered around a character getting a new power up, etc.

The end result is a pretty unique series that I feel like mixes Takahashi's inherent strengths in terms of character creation, smaller episodic stories, and some sweet romances mixed with a lot of character based comedy with a more typical shounen battle story featuring the characters in a long form quest to take down a villain and assemble all the pieces of the jewel. (It also helps that Takahashi created probably the most iconic shounen villain of all time for this series) There really honestly is no other manga or anime out there like Inuyasha, and there probably never will be. I think that's what lead both to the series becoming so popular, as well as so polarizing.

Are the new seasons of noragami and fafner worth watching? I do recall enjoying both shows greatly and I find it interesting to have new seasons for both. However, a sequel isnt guaranteed awesomeness

Oh yeah I forgot.

It's a bad answer!

Watch Patlabor (OVA + Movies) and watch Re: Cutie Honey. These shouldn't take too long. Do you have a MAL or similar?

And the TV series?

Don't have a MAL, I don't like to rank shows, I just remember (...or don't) what I watched. :p

Wow what will be next for Buddyfight. I hope Ikazuchi can be adopted by Gao's family once everything resolves.

Otherwise
time for everyone to become normal again, no more inverse stuff since Gratos reign is over

Asterisk - episode 1

Either it's super generic or I've seen this beginning before...

A bit of both. The story beats in the first episode have been in anime for decades, even Ranma 1/2 has the same beats for its first episode though in different order. But school + superpowers + tsundere the go to formula nowadays, lol.

Watch Rakudai ep 1 and you'll get deja vu.

TV series is in a different continuity. It can be watched but isn't really essential and quite different.

MAL or other list sites aren't about ranking shows though you can do that, it's to keep track of what you've seen which is quite useful I find but also makes it easy for others to see what you've seen which is even more useful when asking for recommendations.

I think it's especially weird that within like 30 seconds of that first episode of Asterisk's introduction of MCs they show both the tsun and the dere of the main girl. Why would you do that straight off the bat? You're supposed to have the girl warm up to the protagonist and initially be cold, not just be some sort of weird 'oh now I'm tsun, oh now I'm dere' as soon as she meets the main protagonist. It makes no sense otherwise.

Noragami S2 started badly, I was ready to drop it. The second part of the season was far, far more interesting though and it develops Yato nicely. Overall, it may be better than S1. If you liked S1, there's no reason to not see this one.

Fafner Exodus is still Fafner, emotional, dramatic, and great action, and you dont have to wait week to week!.

Noragami Aragato kind of lost its way, felt overrated and overhyped.

It's because shows have to fight for mindshare nowadays. If you don't get to what the viewer base wants right away, you're risking them not staying with the content at all.

It's a rough situation. Try and not to show that card right off the bat and you risk folks thinking the show is too slow and they won't be interested. Try to get it all out there right away and you end up using a formula that makes you look generic.

Asterisk interestingly hits both because it starts off with a super formulaic opening making it look generic. On the other hand, it slowly builds up the story to try and set the stage for the plot. Perhaps a little too slow, lol.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Then again, this is a light novel adaptation so I wasn't really expecting much anyway out of it.

I wonder when things will move on from adapting shitty light novel series. I realise that at the moment the industry sort of collectively jumps on things - there was light novels with ridiculously long names, there were 'trapped in an MMO' stories, stories where MMO/RPG worlds became real, there were HERO AND DEMON LORD BUT WITH A TWIST stories, and there were overpowered Jesus MC stories. There were even combinations of two or more of either of these mushed together into some unholy concoction.

[overpowered Jesus MC + trapped in an MMO + demon lord = Overlord]
[light novel with long name + overpowered Jesus MC + in fantasy RPG world = Slime Tensei]

No one has volunteered for this yet?

Nope. It almost seams pointless as it will be an OPM/Shirobako cicle jerk, but someone needs to do it still. You game? C'mon, take one for the team!

BTW, ate their any original series coming this winter, or is everything manga/LN based?

Owarimonogatari 12
This is one fucking incompetent samurai. You have a giant ass sword, infinitely superior physical capabilities, training as a specialist, years of experience yet you still allow the other dumb nut to reach you with his bare hand ? smh. I also shake my head at how far the action scenes in this series have fallen, compared to Bake's action scenes this one was just laughable.

Not quite sure what to make of this arc either, it faltered off a bit for me in the last two episodes. Probably cause I still don't care much about Shinobu or her relationship with Araragi. I wanted to say that this arc, even if weaker on an episode by episode basis than the previous one, at least didn't rely on idiotic plot devices but with this resolution, I can't quite do that any more. Ougi Formula might just have been the arc I enjoyed the most from this season. Still probably my AotY (not that that's saying much) but I wouldn't put either of the three (4?) stories next to my favourites from the franchise.

---

- Was that monster thing with crab arm ever explained ? Must have forgotten if it was.

- Not a fan of the author spoiling the enitre outcome of the arc in prologue and this might have just been repeated, on a much larger scale, with Araragi's last words. Please be trolling me Nishio ...

- I'm glad the second sword suddenly became the centre of attention as from the very moment it was mentioned i wanted to know more about it.

The issue isn't adapting shitty light novels, as a lot of light novels aren't really shitty. It's adapting them so they're much more approachable as an anime product while retaining the complexity of the novel. dimb talked about it a bunch of posts back but Asterisk is supposedly heading towards a discussion of robotics and how it can marginalize humans apparently. I haven't read the novels but I can certainly see that within the first season after thinking about it. What they needed to is to better emphasize that aspect within the story to make it standout. That's just one example but you can look at other shows like Rakudai to see the issues with these adaptations.

There are some, but 90% of tthe season is ether manga, LN, VN or game based.

I checked it a while ago, since i'm also more interested about originals, since with them you don't get all the anoying people that compare stuff, or spoil stuff. ( people don't seem to comprehend that when they say, this X charachter gets bether or this gets resolved in the future, they still spoil you, even though they don't directly spoil the story, or when they say just wait till Y episode...)

I guess so. I suppose it's unfair to call Asterisk a shitty light novel and throw it in the same pile as some of the other LN crap I've read, since I haven't read the source material for that one specifically.

I know Log Horizon at least attempted to keep that complexity intact but bored the fuck out of a lot of people for doing so.

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
Working!!! Lord of the Takanashi

It's just a regular overlong episode. Wonder why they advertised it as some kind of fantasy-themed episode.

Mouryou no Hako 11

What an incredible episode. Morio Asaka turned in a top-tier storyboard here, reminiscent of his work on Aoi Bungaku, with very creative visual techniques all through that created a strong atmosphere. The film flashback was particularly impactful. It's also interesting to see the lingering impact of Japan's World War II involvement explictly acknowledged in a detailed manner. It had come up before, such as in Kiba's nightmares, but this takes it to a whole new level.

Really excited to see how the last two episodes wrap things up.

Code Geass: Akito the Exiled 1

This was sooo dull. I hoped that it would get interesting, but it didn't. I had a feeling I was seeing Code Geass again, but without all the craziness that made me love it. Both of the main characters were quite similar to Lelouch and Suzaku but iit's almost like they did nothing with those characteristics. Both of them were so boring. Even the story seems to have the same theme with Japan, I'd vastly prefer something else now that they changed the setting. Kind of amazing that they managed to make me bored with Code Geass' world. The villain(?), also seems to be completely boring. The most interesting characters were the terrorist trio, but I guess they fill the Black Knights' role. The battles were mostly okay, but after so many crazy mechs, I expected some more interesting designs. Lancelot's first fight was far better than whatever was shown here. And so much CGI......

Does this get any better?
