I posted a thread awhile ago saying i'd make a first impressions thread once i got some time in the game and explored it enough to give a first impressions thread. So i'm making one right now and i'll do a review thread once i'm done with the game. So far i'm loving it and it's been worth every cent of the 50 I spent on it. I'm in area 1 right now about done with it for reference.
Positives: Starting with the positives cause i got alot of them.
1: My biggest positive about this game is that your actions have consequences in insanely cool ways that effect dialogue and character interactions with you. I'm going to give three examples of this down below.
First off in the prologue you meet a woman in a jail cell and you can choose to leave her to die while taking her boat or open the cell and escape with her. I chose to save her and I got alot of cool dialogue as she was escaping with me that fleshed her character out, and it caused a cool interaction with her later once you hit dawnshore.
You meet her again in a sidequest as your exploring dawnshore and she remembers you and how you saved your life, and in return for doing so she steps in and backs u up by letting you off scott free in terms of payment for smuggling 2 npc's out of town on her boat. If you never saved her then you either have to fight this group or you have to pay them 1,000 gold which is alot of money. That was really damn cool and I appreciated that you meet her again.
There's a bathhouse worker who is smuggling stuff for her girls and you can choose to turn her in or let it go. I chose to let it go and then I told the guy I report to help her with money in secret. If you go back to the bathouse and see her after doing so she mentions the money she received from that guy and thanks you for it. Again awesome piece of world building.
You meet a woman in a main quest who is hiding the man who attempts to take your life earlier in the game. If you spare her life instead of killing her then she can become a spy that works under you and you get dialogue referencing this fact in the same quest line. She also helps you out later in the game as your own spy. This was fucking cool and I got a smirk out of it cause it made me feel like an imperial badass who's actions got people on my side.
Overall the sidequest and main story quests all have several different outcomes that affect npc's and there reactions to u. I love it a ton and it gets you invested in the world and characters as well as how you build your character. Just badass writing here and really quality stuff going on here.
2: Combat is really fun. I'm a mage build right now and you get alot of cool abilities. Fireballs, blizzards, lighting etc and it makes combat pretty damn cool. You can also become a mage/warrior build or a mage/hunter build and spec into both classes and it's overall alot of fun.
3: Companions are talkative and explain the world and talk about lore with you as well as give their opinions for quests and side quests. They tell you what they're feeling, what decision they'd make and express either hatred or satisfaction based off the choice your main character makes in the game with decision making. It adds to the world building when your companions talk alot and express their opinions in terms of quests and sidequests and this is again something I love.
4: Graphics and artstyle are great and it's a beautiful game to look at visually. Really colorful environments that pop on a 4k tv, and really beautiful landscaping going on as you walk across the world. I haven't had any performance issues so far and everything has been as smooth as butter. No complaints at all with anything visually in this game.
I really am enjoying this game so far and I really don't have alot of negatives if any at this current juncture. The only nitpick I could say is that the warrior and archer class could've used more active abilities instead of passive ones but again this is a nitpick. Overall i'm loving every moment of this game, and loving the choice and consequence of every decision you make and how it actually affects the world.
