Axios (Stephen Totilo) Lawyers: Email proves Microsoft’s ABK bid is designed to elimination (Update: MS claims it was a "thought experiment")

You do realize that if that redacted document isn't legit... and they based a suit on it, that would count s slander/libe... which is a compensatory offense. Think about that.

Anyways... hat to say it, but.... this is why I don't trust MS.
c'mon, son: my desire to see the actual text has nothing to do with it not being legit, & everything to do with withholding judgement until i've actually read it myself. there're documents/statements, & there're interpretations of those documents/statements. i simply prefer to do my own interpreting. as should anyone interested in informing themselves...

Alright, quick question for the team Sonytoo™ can any of you provide an example or a sentence that is similar ?
Similar to what?

We don't know what was said lol

Whole thing is sort of silly until we know the contents of the email.

Quick question though find a context in which "putting Sony out of business" is a good thing or even remotely less despicable.

Isn't that the reason any business does anything? To get rid of their competition?
Yes but people are weird, they will believe that Nintendo "love videogames" while EA "only want money", like... All of them just want money, all of them rather have no competition at all, all of them play dirty and will always try to fool us all into thinking otherwise.

Basically the document says "Microsoft want to buy another company to do business", but with contextual sugar for conflict.

It was more about the "putting sony out of business" part.
That's not a quote though; we are getting some paraphrasing likely form a lawyer who leaked the story.

Also apparently it's from 2019 so pre-dates the Activision buyout:

Which is probably how MS will avoid this actually being considered as part of the case.

So we'll never learn the contents most likely lol

look: seeing is believing. if we finally get to read this email, & it actually says 'putting sony out of business', then fine. i mean, you do realize that the statement 'it supposedly shows an Xbox exec saying that the plan around buying Activision is to put PlayStation out of business' is not a direct quote from the email, but rather a description/summation/interpretation of the email?...

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

So this is not related to the acquisition?

Let's summon some crows then. Or at least I expect some posters to quietly bow out of this thread now.

And this doesn't change MS goal, if it was 10 or more years ago I'd understand companies changes but 2019 is close and probably happened during ABK negociations or even reflect their intentions as being not so good while claiming the opposite.
To make a simplified comparison if you read I text that said I'm gonna borrow your car and destroy it but it was from before I asked to borrow your car, would you trust me ?

The emails are still redacted. Just a couple of hours ago that was a major deal to you. Now a "Microsoft rep" speaks up and you want to summon crows?

Either way, the dates do not change Microsoft's intent.

Alright that's a fair point but I believe that a document that can be used in court and that has been paraphrased cannot be subject to interpretations. And in this case the reported content leave no places to doubt.

That's not how the regulatory rules work. If the people involved in that email chain are/were still employed by Microsoft at the time the acquisition was announced, it's still relevant information. There is no legal way to brush said intentions under the rug.

If Phil Spencer, Brad Smith, and Matt Booty received that email chain...

And would you say Sony is still trying to do that ?
Pretty much, yeah. They, effectively, forced Nintendo to diversify in order to continue to find success, and Sony still chase them wherever possible. Nintendo made the DS? Sony made the PSP. Nintendo made the 3DS? Sony made the PS Vita. Nintendo made the Wii? Sony made the Move. Nintendo made the Wii U / Switch? Sony's still trying to make second-screen gaming happen for their console. I'd wager there's more than just chasing trends there.

Do you have an example that is more recent than 10 years ago ?Or anything to would be anything more than just competition or copying because that's not what MS wants, it is to destroy sony, like by buying publishers for example or paying astroturfers.

No they didn't. The emails are still redacted.

Awkward John Krasinski GIF by Saturday Night Live

That's what YOU wanted.

And the exact content of the emails will probably stay redacted for a while, if not forever. But at least MS has clarified that these emails far precede anything related to the acquisition, something I'm sorry to say you jumped the gun on as well.

you may very well be right. but i'm still waiting to read the damn thing myself before thinking anything. i mean, what's the rush, eh? personally, i've already had more than enough time to've become revolted by some of the business practices of both these corporations. i can hold off on having a new reason for a bit...

Yep MS say they want to destroy sony and then (or even while) is talking to ABK about aquisition....There's no correlation there, it is all coincidences. In fact MS hadn't even heard about ABK before 2022.

Nope. Doesn't change Microsoft's stated intention whatsoever. But this is you...

I'm just asking for the unredacted receipts, not much else.

Now you don't care. Or, in reality, never did.

That I can agree with wholeheartedly. But let's not pretend there isn't a disgusting double discourse from MS and a double standard by some here.

"We should buy ABK to put Sony out of business"

Fast forward less than 3 years. "Totally unrelated. Totes."

That is stretching the mental gymnastics. Even for you.

lol come on, you know this specific thing has been busted now, no need to draw false parallels to draw it out any longer

I agree with this part lol.

So it turns out the email predates the acquisition and who would have guessed, Microsoft wants Xbox to kick PlayStations ass, always has and always will. And vice versa. It’s amazing how business and competition work.

yeah, well, that's a very different subject. i mean, ms is gonna ms, eh? & there're 'some here' that i don't got time for & never will have...

You are not allowed to use logic on this forum. You are suppose to take things out of context or in this case assume things as long as it benefits Playstation.

Agreed again, and just in case,I hope I wasn't agressive or vindicative toward you since english isn't my native language, I may sound more agressive that I would wanted to.But I assure you that in my language it was an amicable discussion.

Agreed the water got a little murkier. But claiming it was a total bust before anyone saw the exact language is bridge too far. Deals of this caliber don't get explored, signed, and set up for a closing after countless regulatory reviews in a day. You know that.
