Even if I ignore the amazing combat system, the game provides a really dense and rich narrative experience. Nearly every where you go something interesting to find or a interesting story/character you come across. Characters are amazing aswell.

Isn't this how GPU benchmarks go? Use a high-end CPU as to not bottleneck the game, test GPUs. You'd need a CPU benchmark where all CPUs are at least above 60 to prove your point and even then it won't be true for all games, such as BG3.

As above, the benchmarks for AAA games often fall below 60 depending on the GPU used.

I guess you just don't get how it works. If your CPU can't do more than 50fps for example no GPU will change that.

Baldur's gate 3 is cpu limited on PS5, Pro won't help with framerate in act 3 in any big way.

How, in your experience, does it feel on gamepad? I did play BG1 & 2 back in the day and loved them, but now I would rather play it on console and I'm a bit sceptical how did they do the navigation through all that spells, hopefully the UI doesn't suffer to much in that regard.

It's actually great on controller.

But I would still recommend M+KB over controller.

You don't need to have played the original games. But, if you're not familiar with the contemporary D&D ruleset, I'd advice against multiclassing, it can get tricky. It controls just fine on a console. The story is well, it's your typical fantasy trope. You and your companions are out there to save the world. But your companions/antagonists/everyone you meet are so well written and acted. Even the slightest interactions are fully mocapped with really good lipsync (unlike some recent games *cough*Veilguard*cough*). And the music. Yes. There's this one battle tune with a male choir that just gets me so pumped every time. Even if it's a minute battle.

But, as it is based on the D&D lore, if you're not familiar with it, you may want to take a pause every now and then to get some context into what race/deity/whatnot is being discussed. Just steer clear of the BG3 wikis and such, or you may learn too much.

Edit: hell, I was thinking about getting Veilguard, I consider myself something of a DA fan. I likely will, at some point, but not at full price. So, seeing as there's mod support now on PS5, redownloading. Here we go again.

The CPU limit affects the upper, not lower bound. In the benchmarks you linked to, the 4090 was hitting over 200 FPS, so clearly the CPU was no limiting factor for staying above 60. That's not what we see in Act 3, where even a 4090 can drop below 60.

There is a separate control scheme when played on a controller. You can try it on a PC if you wish, it was designed that way from the start. While it can get a bit fiddly if you have a ton of skills or inventory items (these can be re-arranged), it still works really quite well.

The list of enhanced games on PS5 Pro is quickly expanding, it's clear that many developers had the dev kits not long ago and they're working on their patches as we speak so more and more will be announced in the next few months.

There are very few games with tested and proven cpu limited performance on consoles and BG3 is one of them. Yep, GPU is the most important thing most of the time but decent CPU is also needed.

If the game is programmed correctly, then he's right, it's mostly about the GPU.
Now if there's some programming error or even bugs, then yeah the CPU could cause an fps tank, but then the problem is really not the CPU, the problem is the code itself!

It does not, sadly. I played it both on PS5 and PC. The controller setup is adequate for what it is, but kb+m is noticeably better if not just for ease of menuing. Also it really really sucks reworking your skillbar setups when you change classes or try to reset your character build, which is much easier with kbm.

I would say that the biggest issue on PS5 with regard to performance is actually local co-op as the framerate drop in splitscreen is absolutely awful.

Poor code or not, cpu limit is still a cpu limit. You can't do anything about other than changing cpus or waiting for patch.

BG3 is super complex game in act 3, I don't think many games are comparable to that and cost of that is... high.

You know why last gen games were 30fps, even on One X and Pro? Because CPU was the limit, all games were poorly coded?

3600 is gonna be worse than the ps5 pro cpu, I bet the pro will perform quite a bit better than that cpu in this game. Not enough to lock 60, but it'll be good enough.

If it does I highly recommend KBM if possible. BG3 has great controls for a console game on a controller, but it's just can't be as natural as KBM.

That said it plays just fine without KBM. Marian's controller support is actually damn impressive here.
