Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer!

Agent Icebeezy said:
People complain about Rare in almost every thread. Rare hasn't been good for 10 years when the reality is that Viva Pinata came out less than two years ago. If this were BK HD, people would say that they are still following Nintendo. Rare can never win.
Of course they would. Rare gets a crazy amount of hate on GAF, even as they are appearing to settle in with the Microsoft brand. It's kind of depressing to see so many people who just refuse to be open-minded about Rare.

And I hate the open world/sandbox style puzzle, but the real problem is the vehicles themselves. If Rare wanted to go in that direction (of customization/creating your own solution) they could have done something a little more inventive then 'build your vehicle' (in a game that was never about vehicles) and use it to complete objectives.

If instead they had done something where kazooie gets turned robotic and you have to customize HER, then I might still be excited, eventhough it would still be 'build your own _____ and use to complete'. I'm imagining something like: You have a jiggy in a pedastal surrounded by fire, that room is blocked off by a giant block of ice. In order to get the jiggy you have to equip the flame thrower to kazooie's head, and a water-vaccuum type device to her ass. You melt the ice with the flame thrower, suck up the water, and spray it on the fire. And there could be many other ways of going about solving it, but something LIKE that (keep in mind I'm not a designer and I just thought of that scenario off the top of my head) would just feel so much better to me. Rare could have gotten there create a solution thing going on, and people like me could still get a game which focuses on the abilities of bear and bird.

I'm really disappointed right now :(
It looks like the game consists 40% of building vehicles, 40% of driving around and 10% of platforming/exploration. Whilst BK1&2 were 100% platforming/exploration.

how do you know this yet?

first trailer and everyones jumping the gun?
game looks amazing so far :)

For fuck's sake, how do you guys ever expect the industry to succeed if it stays the same all the time? If you want to play old-style Banjo then play the N64 games. I'm sure most people haven't done that in awhile.

In the mean time, I'll enjoy BK3, because it looks fucking amazing. This won't be the last BK game ever, guys.
What if we've played the other BK to death and want something brand new but true to BK? Nothing wrong with wanting that.

There's room for creativity- nobody is against creativity so much as Rare tossing out key features that make the series appealing in the first place.

And like many have suggested, this could have been a new IP or a spin-off. Mind you I'll still be getting this because I think it has potential - it's just not what I wanted. Change can be good, but it can also be bad.

Hugely flawed to think of this as a spinoff because it doesn't have a number. .

Never said that, not once. What I did say was that subtitles are helpful in highlighting a change in direction.

And that is irrefutable. Whether it applies to Banjo 3 is what Crushed and I have been discussing.

After reading all these posts by people defending the idea of this game, I have finally understand their logic:

Yeah, makes sense. Somehow.

Not. Really.

Hey look kids, i can't read!

I love how when it's on foot it's platforming/exploration, but when it's in a vehicle it's just "driving around".

But that's just it, from has been shown the vehicles were not used for platforming purposes.

Gears 2 = its just gears 1 only marginally better it doesnt try anything new its the same old shit. EPIC FAIL!

BK3 = wtf why isnt this the same shit i grew up with i hate the new direction theyre taking this why are they changing it and trying new things. EPIC FAIL!

Does that about sum up Gamer's Day?

30 seconds trailer

THIS DESERVES INSTANT PRAISE

Not because they made Banjo-Kazooie, an incredibly awesome game. But I guess that was more like Mario-Kazooie mirite

I'm looking forward to Banjo 3, CHILL THE FUCK OUT GUYS

This thread is bringing out the stupid in people.

I feel embarassed to be a gamer, some of you are so fucking nerdy.

Arguments about losing abilities in a sequel 8 years later and arguing fucking SUBTITLES?

You lost QUITE A BIT of abilities from Mario 3 and onward. Didn't stop the games from being awesome. Hell, I liked SMW more than SMB3.

The game looks very good. Yes, I'm not completely sold, and I DO hope there is more platforming than the trailer makes it seem like, but even the vehicle parts look really fun.

They're trying something new. And what pisses me the hell off is that you people bitch when companies "rehash" and then you bitch when they try something new.

Does anyone remember the Napoleon battlefield from Psychonauts?

There's an area of this game which reminds me of that.

I got lost as to whatever either of you were talking about to be honest, but there's a whole wealth of examples showing you the very next game in a series dropped a number and picked up a subtitle.

Edit: While keeping direction too, for example most of my examples!

And they added absolutely nothing new, right?

:|

No since according to Crushed, vehicles are just like Kazooie's moves. Flying? Its there. High jump? There.

You people cant even shill a consistant argument

Fucking forget it. Apparently your opinion is stupid if you wanted to have a game that was more traditional platformer.

If complaining that the premise of the original game (B-K's abilities to work together) have been nerfed is wrong, then fuck it.

"Flying = plane jumping = spring running = car all the mechanics are there, Chris, chill"

That's a horrible comparison. BK3 is not a cart racer. It is a platformer that has vehicles and vehicle construction elements.

You probably never played the originals. They had lots of minigames. Races, FPS elements, memory games, timed challenges, etc. This game looks to have those, too.

How do you know it isn't a spin-off?

It's called Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, after all (remember in Banjo-Tooie, Grunty said she'll be back in Banjo-Threeie).

Baiano19 said:
Whoa this looks like to be a multiplayer blast! Funny, someone before mentioned that BK3 looke like Little Big Planet and it kinda is... but with vehicles.
I don´t see how platforming fits this new focus thoug...

Instead of gaining new moves, you create the vehicles yourself to be the new moves. Only your imagination holds you back.

There are cool implementations to be explored here such as this.

OMFG, vehicles and platforming in harmony!

You wouldn't think that by the way some people are bitching in this thread.

Did you not see the jumping car? carvault.gif

Again, the spring on the automobile was very limitily used to traverse platforms.

And again, for different reasons.

For example, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots sounds like it has a clear political stance on warfare.

Considering how much you have to look at the vehicles, you think they would have made them a little less ugly.

I will reserve judgement until the game comes out but it doesn't look all that great to me. So that, personally, makes at least the trailer a failure regardless of how the final game turns out.

Now Crushed knows how I feel when some fuckwits come into a SFIV thread, and say "Lolz Street Fighter EX 4???" even though every single person who has played it, be it at loketests or at trade shows, say the game plays exactly like Street Fighter, but with great new mechanics that add to the gameplay.

Yeah I'm sure Banjo & Clank would have been received well...

What exactly does Twisted Metal Black say? Spyro: Year of the Dragon? Super Mario World? All are very clearly direct sequels, and none have a number, though they're given a subtitle.
