Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer!

How is that different than getting a better/different ability later in the game to tackle getting a jiggy easier?
I can think of very few jiggys in B-K or B-T that you could just skip and then breeze through later on with better abilities. The majority of them had very specific solutions, and the earlier levels didn't often incorporate the features needed to use your better moves anyway.

No, not really, where are the multitude of carefully designed platforms in the vehicles sections that the player has to plot through?

You mean kinda like how he had to get to that first platform in order to get the propeller that allows him to get to higher platforms..?

Yeah, when they hit the tree I was just like "...what? Why did you show us that? Is it MEANT to do that?"
Wait, are you saying it is bad that the environment is interactive and not just static?

I thought it was cool how in another video we saw banjo driving through a fence and destroying buildings.

I'll give it a rent and so forth. It is a pretty game, I just can't tell what it's going to be. I read somewhere (here?) that they plan on releasing this in November? If true, are they fucking nuts? Talk about shooting yourself in the balls.

well it certainly doesn't look mindblowing. Like Mario Galaxy at 720p. Rare usually makes gorgeous games, this really isn't that impressive when you consider the competition.

Probably the heavy compression.

Banjo games have never had carefully designed platforms that the player has to plot through

Why is the title "Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer"? Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts isn't only the superior, far less obnoxious title, but it's also official.

Just because it's awesome doesn't mean you have to like it, nimrod.

I recognize that Devil May Cry is a good series, but I have absolutely zero interest in playing any of them.

Yeah, I hope they put a few of the videos up on XBLM. The videos are normally fairly good quality, and don't have a huge amount of compression.

But please try to twist my words more cause I dont agree with you

I'm not completely in agreement with you as I think this game looks like a helluva lot of fun, though granted I'm not a huge BK fan in the first place, but why does it seem like people are trying to attack your views by seemingly demeaning Mario Galaxy?

Are we in the Mario Galaxy backlash period already?

Don't turn too much for you might get a bit dizzy and I don't want you to feel dizzy.
I was talking about this -
encountering the platform, searching for something to make your vehicle fly, building the vehicle and finally doing this:

- and how I consider being a bit creative more exciting then to ask bottles to teach me how to use red feathers. Personal preferences you know?

I just saw a trailer for this, and certain parts look like Twisted Metal...on top of the gummi ship-like ship builder from Kingdom Hearts, I'd say we got Twisted Banjo Metal Kingdom on our hands. Rejoice, those who secretly wish for bizarre hybrids. Your time has come.

Agenticebeezy (get the name right) has totally hit the nail on the head in this thread.

He's summed everything up perfectly and that should really end the nervousness about this game. I think Rare is doing a fantastic job with the direction they are taking this game in.

If there are going to be complaints, complain about not liking banjo's design or feeling you wanted him to look more next gen or complain about not having a preference for the art or you have concerns and would like to see more before you get too hyped, but there can be no doubt that the game itself looks pretty damn promising from a gameplay perspective.

And whether the whole formula ultimately works or not, the game at least looks astounding. Absolutely popping with bright colors, interesting textures, and fanciful character and art design, it already stands as a jaw-dropping showpiece for HDTVs. Even Banjo's fuzzy fur impresses, and the environments never take the easy way out: Nutty Acres features a giant LCD screen as a sky-blue backdrop, with sheet-metal clouds hanging in front and what looks like a stitched grass quilt stretching over the landscape.

Oh Rare is most definitely back. I didn't know that level with the quilts for grass and the fake clouds was an actual game level. I thought it was just some main hub that lead to the other worlds in the game! They are actually taking risks with their level design and I love that!

No, I'm saying it's bad that it didn't have any visible effect on the glider. It made sense when we saw Banjo driving through a fence because the car looked significantly stronger, whereas this was lighter but had no problem colliding straight into a tree then moving back up cleanly. It doesn't seem right.

God the slow stream of bullshit is turning into a torrent, yep it looks like Galaxy at 720p for christs sake.

The fence-destroying is fun too but I don't know if that was a reason to implement 'real-time' physics. And the glider looked like it was tough to control or someone wasn't really trying.

But I'm nitpicking. I hope they have more ambitious uses in mind.

I think this would have been far better received if it was an original game and not a B-K.

Actually, if this was tweaked a bit, this would've been greatly received as a Jet Force Gemini 2.

Looks pretty fun though.

That makes sense, but I think why a lot of games do that is it works a little better with the gameplay flow.

If I completely stopped every time I hit a wall in Diddy Kong racing I would have never finished the game. :(

Pretty much. I'm getting too worked up over a fucking franchise I assumed was dead.

I'll just place this game in my hopper to be picked up later this year.

Looks like the "trees" are made from strapped up planks of wood and inflated fabric balloons so hitting it wouldn't do much damage to anything really.

HD platforming

Even though no one in this thread argued you couldn't walk on foot. The problems were: lack of on-foot focus, lack of on-foot abilities.

Whatever. Building stuff will be fun still.

Yeah except for you know, of like the total of 5 minutes of video, only a fraction of that is shown of Banjo on - oh wait I just saw your avatar... why bother?

Someone's avatar as an indicator of their intelligence, mindset, or general forum personality is the most idiotic argument in the history of idiotic arguments.

If this game was JFG2, I would be one of the people bitching about what Rare has done.

I thought Banjo Kazooie was great and Tooie...not so much, so I have no problem with them going in this direction. I think Blast Corps and this type of game would have been the best if it they really needed to dig into their old game bin.

Why shouldn't they?

Because Banjo Kazooie was never about vehicles. It was never about open ended gameplay. I get that this type of game appeals to people, that's fine. GTA appeals to people, I'm not all about that, FPS's appeal to people, I'm not into those either. My favorite genre is platformers. LINEAR platformers, at that. BK is in my top 5 favorite games of all time. I just wish they had made this a new IP, and given Banjo fans a new, true Banjo experience.

The first egg is a clear example of a complicated platforming situation that is akin to a platforming segment of Mario 64. THE FIRST EGG. Not the stop n swap, jesus.
YOU CANNOT GET THAT EGG IN THE ACTUAL GAME, ONLY IN AN EMULATOR.

It was part of the mystery of the games. EVERY Banjo fan knew about it because at the very end of the game, Mumbo showed you a video of Shark Food Island raised up mysteriously on Treasure Trove Cove, and then showed off that jumping part and the egg, and told you that Banjo-Tooie would reveal the secret.

Really have to give huge Kudos to Rare.

Only genuinely new and fresh ideas (beyond the fact that its for only 1 particular system) can garner such love/acceptance and such hate/resistance at the same time.

Heres hoping they keep it going with future titles.

wait! are some gaffer saying that this game look ugly? :lol :lol

The game looks ok, but from the footage shown, some areas do look hideous.

I just played an hour of the original to refresh my memory, and as some have said, platforming challenges are scarce and generally uninspired. So what does that mean? Well, for one, gamers expecting a game to rival SMG, as so many here seem to desire, will be disappointed. Just mellow out.

OMG Breaking News: New Kid Icarus to feature a helicopter. CUSTOMIZABLE!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it hurts my eyes. That city is an abomination. Brown colours, wtf? And the buildings are so realistic. The art direction in this game is all over the place.

You could go into that room and climb those very steps. I'm using that as an example, that's not the only one in the game, but I haven't played it in like 8 years, so forgive me if that's the only one that stands out.

After seeing the video posted on Kotaku, I think I'm fine with the game. As I said earlier, I think the vehicles look like a lot of fun to play around with, and now that I see what looks like will be a good amount of exploration on foot and hearing some better music, I'm feeling much better about this game. :D

Ok heres a thought. IF the xbox 360 remote was real wouldn't it be theasable to think that the wand in Kazooie's hand could be controlled by the remote...

So you point at what you want to pick up, pull the trigger to grasp it, then wave what you have around, release to thow...

I'm guessing MS still has stuff up it's sleeve for e3... I can't wait!

[wildspeclation]
oh, and Halo Wars not shown because that'll be the showcase game for the remote at e3.[/wildspeclation]
