If true then it's a damn shame, because it essentially turns Cinemax into HBO2.

If it means we'll have two networks running high quality programming all year long, I'm all for it - Cinemax's offerings have been consistently strong since Strike Back and Banshee started up, but when they're not running Banshee, Strike Back or The Knick I don't have anything to watch on Saturday mornings.

Strike Back and Banshee have been high quality programming even with heavy erotic content though. I always saw Cinemax as a little brother to HBO, one that doesn't have to carry legacy of the whole family, so it can be just plain fun slut :D
Cinemax has it; own identity and it would sad to see it wiped out.

Here's a more direct source (from 2013) on the change in direction that Cinemax has been looking at.

I'm personally not seeing this supposed toning down of nudity. I mean, just a few pages ago, someone in this very thread was complaining about the amped up sex and nudity. It's almost as if the s&n is being dictated by what's happening to the characters - Hood was the main vehicle through which the sex and nudity was delivered in the first season, but this year he has other things on his plate. Carrie has had a bunch of sex scenes this season; Chayton early on; Kai. People are still having sex and people are getting naked - just not lately because the season is coming to an end and all of the storylines are coming to a head.

I mean, Cinemax is certainly moving away from their literal softcore porn "Skinemax" titles, like Femme Fatales, Working Girls in Bed, and Topless Prophet, but I see no evidence that they're shifting away from depicting s&n in their original dramas. The Knick had gratuitous nudity in almost every episode, Strike Back surely will too - I haven't read the Quarry novels but I understand that they have a lot of sex and I highly doubt they're going to excise any of it for the TV adaptation.

HBO seems content to keep Cinemax as their pulpy, high octane younger brother, judging by their slate of upcoming (and in development) shows.

I loved Hoods broken bottle stab. I can't wait for Hood vs Stowe, that shit should be brutal. You just know Hoods getting thrown or kicked through something.

Fuck yes.

That fight is coming but i think it has to be built up...I am thinking Carrie or Deva pays the price , though, to push hood to the next level of anger and rage...

Figured this was the reason, but I do hope they don't give up entirely on nudity in their shows or go the HBO route where nudity feels forced or just there to make the show feel more edgy.

That's what I feel Cinemax nailed. The nudity always made sense in the context of what was happening, it never gratuitous or forced. It had a natural flow to it.

Not to the same thing though.

What do you mean? Banshee and GoT have, more or less, the same amout of violence and nudity (and incest).
I don't get why Banshee should be toned down, when one of HBO's most popular shows is pretty much on par with it.
That article talks mostly about softcore porn movies, rather than tv shows.

Yea I do wonder if they were only talking about the softcore stuff they were doing. Plus this seems to be something they've talked about for years but shows like Banshee had lots of nudity up until last season .

They have so few big shows that it's difficult to even see the impact of any change in creative direction in a short period of time. Like I said earlier, we'll have to see how Strike Back turns out this season.

Awesome episode.

Hood vs Chayton was so epic, it had to be broken down into various stages. The knife fight was awesome. I loved how it seamlessly became a foot chase through the Quarter. Chayton's death was amazing. I hope Hood killing seemingly invincible monsters in increasingly horrible ways becomes a thing. I can only imagine what he'll have to do to put down Stowe. Though the reveal of his metal endoskeleton will be epic when it happens.

I thought for sure they were setting up Kai to be taken down and killed by Rebecca. Unfortunately I don't think that's going to happen. Given this weeks turn of events I don't think our favorite Amish bad girl is long for this world. Proctor is probably going to come back harder and better than ever.

Job <3

Brock totally gave me Hobo Max Payne vibes during the opening sequence. Don't know why, but now I want him to shave his head completely and go with that look.

My boy Burton is a eunuch? Never would have guessed. Shame that.

Now that Stowe is on the case, these next few episodes are primed to be absolutely awesome. I can't wait to see him wreck shit again.

This show. It's amazing. Loved the Hood and Chayton fight and he got the ending he deserved. I'm glad they're delving deeper into Burton's history, seems very interesting.

Job is the greatest. Float like a butterfly.

anybody think kai bites the bullet this season? or will they save that for the fourth?

i feel like he should stay til the end of the series. rebecca though, she's cool but she's showing this season that she doesn't have what it takes, i don't see her lasting long from this point.

I kind of feel like they've set up Kai as the Boyd to Hood's Raylan, so I think he'll stick around until the very end. I also hope Rebecca sticks around because she's a really unique character and her dynamic with Kai is fascinating to watch. I don't think Kai will kill her for her transgressions, especially after she (and Burton) rescues him - he'll just find a way to punish her somehow.

Wonder if Kai will be forced out by Rebecca and Burton and the dynamic of the show shifts from Kai being bad guy to being bum/going back to his roots?

I don't want to see Kai go good and I also don't want to see him dead, some kind of attempt to go back the life he had before he was forced out would make for something more interesting.

Probably send her with a sign in public, Die Hard style.

i saw a season and a half, and dropped it.
Bullock was an extremely boring "always the best" type of character, to me.
Also at the time i was really fed up with cop shows of any kind.

Disco will probably like it though, seems more up his alley.

One thing that sold me on Hood, that didn't happen with Olyphant in Justified, was seeing him having nightmares of the Albino and being legit scared of fighting the MMA guy at the start of S1.
Badass characters surrounded by idiots are sort of boring to me, otherwise.

Raylan Givens could not be more unlike Hood, he's a lawman in his home town surrounded by good and bad people he's known all his life. Those interactions and the tension between kin and duty are the driving force of the show.

Yup, that's my point.
Although going on, Hood hasn't demonstrated that much depth after all, but i got hooked on Banshee for other reasons, whereas watching Justified felt more like an obligation, so i dropped it, but don't take it as a personal attack though. :p
It's a funny series, i see why people like it.

What's with all the people hating on Justified? You need a $6 blowjob. A smarter move i can't imagine.

Season 1-4 of Justified is A+ TV, Season 5 was it's black sheep season but this season? Some of the best current TV IMO. Never understood the hate for Justified.

not bad episode. when they said Philly I thought the whole season is going there and leading to next season.

I wonder with the
Philly filming
next season will be flashback purpose

I enjoyed tonight's episode. Introduced a couple more bad guys. The gang is in a sticky situation yet again! Hood gonna go off next episode?

Looks like Hood and Gordon are gonna team up next week to save everyone. :D

Wow Job is a hacker celebrity.

I love that 'Job' is his online hacker name and not necessarily his real one.

So who is going to die next week? Carrie? Job? Sugar?

Someone ain't walking away...

I have a feeling it'll be Gordon, given his conversation with Carrie and the fact that he left Deva in jail.

Good episode, it set up some crazy shenanigans. (Except for the Deva stuff. Ship her to boarding school or something.)

Wasn't pleased with the 45 minute runtime though. Gimme more Banshee.

I hope Gordan dies. If I were a parent I would not leave my kid at the Banshee police dept., too dangerous.
I'm not sure it particularly matter where in Banshee you are, your life expectancy drops once you enter the town.

I do think Gordon might bite it though. I could see him going with Hood to save Carrie & co., and he already had his touching sort of reconciliation with her. The big question is, who's watching Max? I'm pretty sure that kid's been a corpse since episode 2.

Lol'd. -- Ya, didn't he need a heart transplant or something?!

Good episode, and i agree with Gordon dying next week.

The thing about Max is, he was a big part in Deva's character development, but apparently she just doesn't give a shit anymore.
She did steal Forza for him, maybe he just became a shut in, playing videogames all day.
