There was no backup plan really.
Beltran would have made it more likely that Roger Clemens came back. Clemens is still an option, but we'd have to pay him up the ass. I'd gladly pay it, but it's up to him and if he wants to retire or not, and the way it's looking, there's no reason for him to come back this year. If he were to come back...oh man, he'd get a standing ovation ANY TIME he stepped on the mound. Right now, all we may go for is a bit of bullpen help, cause there's really no reason to go out and try to sign what little is left in the free agent market. We're going to be in a quasy-rebuilding mode, and will probably be big players in the 2006 Free agent market. 2006 is the year Bags comes off the books. Kent's defered money is off the books, and Biggio is gone, Berkman will have his contract done, Oswalt I believe already got his deal done, Backe/Lidge will be signed to extensions, and we'll have some cash to spend around to whoever's a FA in 06. Anyway, It's not looking good right now in Astroland. We'll deal though, I've supported the team by going out to games since 97 (well, I was taken to games, since I wasn't old enough to drive yet

) and was there in 98, 99, 2000, 01, 02, 03, and 04. 05 won't be any different.
Let's go 'Stros!
