Does anyone know what other players the Astros might be looking to sign? Now that the Beltran offer fell through, they've got a considerable amount of money to work with.

"We have internal candidates, we have external candidates," Purpura said. "As far as trades, the difficult part is you have to give something up. I can state without a doubt that one of the things we learned through the general manager meetings and the Winter Meetings is that other clubs covet our pitching. We've got a lot of requests and offers made to acquire some of our young pitching.
"That's hard for me to look at, but I realize we have to put together a winning club here in Houston. We're going to weigh all of that."

Eminem said:Despite their signing of Carlos Beltran, the proposed deal that would send Sammy Sosa to the Mets is not necessarily dead, the Chicago Tribune reports. Even with a new $119 million expenditure on the books, the Mets could still add Sosa if the Cubs agree to pick up enough of his salary, in addition to injury-prone Mets outfielder (and Chicago native) Cliff Floyd.
noooooooo. keep sammy on the north side.

*That* makes him a bitch. :lol He's going to fit riiiight in isn't he."Get out of my face, that's all I ask," Johnson said, according to a video of what occurred, which was posted on the station's Web site.
"No cameras," Laveroni said.
"Don't get in my face," Johnson then said. "I don't care who you are. Don't get in my face."
"I'm just taking a picture," said the cameraman, identified by the station as Vinny Everett.
Responded Johnson: "Don't get in my face, and don't talk back to me, all right."

Purpura indicated he would like to work out a long-term deal with Berkman, but is still undecided on Oswalt. The Astros may opt to negotiate another one-year deal with the the right-hander.

The Astros will soon begin contract extension talks with Lance Berkman, who will become the "face" of the team now that Carlos Beltran has bolted, says the Houston Chronicle. Houston has also talked to the Texas Rangers about Alfonson Soriano, but won't be including pitcher Brandon Backe in any deal, says the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
