Batman: Arkham City PC release date now Nov 18 - Steam version uses Steamworks

This delay stuff certainly helps the PC version /sarcasm

Some grade A BS that they can't launch day to day with the console versions.

They'll blame piracy for lesser sales too. Not that there won't be a full blown holiday season of buying and huge games coming that month. AND most know about the consoles versions which are our like....ohhhhhhhhhhhh.........NOW

SCREW YOU PHYSX.

Anyone know if it's possible to have a nVidia card for physx with ATI as the main card?
It is entirely. Look for 257.15 Nvidia beta drivers.

I use a GTS250 alongside a 5870. And if a single 560 has no trouble running the game with high settings, I should be golden.

Would running a cheap Nvidia card for PhysX on a 8X PCI-E slot be a problem? It's like a 20% performance drop for a card on that slot, but if it's only calculating physics...

As i said before:

• buy the game from Amazon for cheap.
• buy no DLC.
• Wait for the GOTY edition.
• Buy GOTY edition off of a steam sale for cheap.

At leastm this is what i'll do.
Since I am impatient, I bought the game already on PS3 and I'm going to trade it in for Uncharted 3 or Skyrim or something next month. Then I'll buy the PC version down the road.

I mean as the card I'll be playing the game with. Does dedicated mean something else?

Yes, it does. You use one GPU for the general game graphics and a second GPU for all the PhysX calculations.

I thought you meant alongside an AMD card, since that's what the conversation was moving toward. You should be fine using it with PhysX, I don't think the first game had any trouble.

Wait -- can you not use a single Nvidia card and still enable PhysX? I thought you'd only end up taking a certain % performance hit. It's not like he'll be running DX11 or anything, so I'd imagine the game would run fine.

The geforce website makes it appear that he'd manage about 40fps with pretty damn good settings.

All you need to do is plug in an Nvidia card, then install the 257.15 beta drivers.

Fap fap fap. Normally I hate exclusive crap like Physx, but since a hack will get it working even with a ATI as my main card (I'll use a 9800 gt for physx), I'm happy.

So I can't play with PhysX stuff if I've just got the one GTX 260?

I don't know what the performance will be like, but you can, yes. Some people with older, spare GPUs, or lots of money, simply use a dedicated second card to increase their frame rates.

Well. I'm locked and loaded. If I even see the word Batman in a thread title other than this I'm not even clicking. No YouTube, no image boards. nada.

I have an old 8800 lying around. Should I do something with that?

If I were to buy a dedicated graphics card what one would you guys suggest (I have a 5870 btw)?
A cheap GTS250 will work fine. Check ebay. You should be able to find one for $50-$80. That's what I use.

Alternately, an 8800gt. Check prices, try to find the best deal. I don't think you'll find much difference using these as dedicated cards.

You don't need a hack.

I have an Alienware MX 11 R3 with the following under the hood:
i7-2617M CPU
Nvidia GT540m GPU
4 GB or ram

Will I be able to run the game with the PhysX feature?

We still don't know if the implementation will be leaner than Arkham Asylum. If it were AA, I'd say no. Not quite. Maybe on low.

Maybe in later generations PhysX support was improved, but I'd expect the worst.

Also, Benchmarks seem to indicate that using a video card that isn't fairly close to your own as a dedicated PhysX card CAN slow performance down quite a bit, I have a 9800GT yet for Mafia II it looks like it'd actually run faster on just a 560 Ti than with the 9800GT being a PhysX card. While it's not like Radeon cards have PhysX support it CAN mean a FPS drop you may not consider a worthwhile trade for the effects.

To maintain ~60fps in Batman with PhysX on, you need a GTX 560 Ti, roughly. It's a feature that will cut your framerate in less than half.

Also, tessellated screenshot from NVidia:

How does that zipper not get pulled down by every henchman she comes across.

A lot, and I mean a lot, of random henchmen dialogue in fights is pretty much 'we's gonna rape you kitty-cat'

Not explicit about it of course, but reading between the lines is pretty easy.

My 580s should murder this game. Cannot wait

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Need my Batman naow :( Hopefully I'll have beaten Uncharted 3 by then. But Skyrim... :/

Edit: It's pre-purchasable on Steam now for $39.99 and it says available November 15th... ???

physx was pretty useless in the first game. what are they doing different this time? i have never been impressed by the value add of physx effects. the only game they didnt seem bolted on because nvidia gave $$ was metro 2033. game physics seemed like it had potential back when half life 2 came out but since then the only physics that has looked good is fake physics like in bad company, red faction, bioshock etc
