Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

The game might be worth a 10 but dear god Polygon writing is at its worst when they give something high marks. See Diablo, Sim City etc.

They stupidly flowery prose they have to justify that 9 and 10 with is downright cringy.

Perfect scores are such a joke. I don't think I've ever played a perfect game.

Anyway, glad to see the high scores :)

To some people 10/10 does not mean perfect. I consider Bioshock a 10/10 game, but its a way off perfect.

I like how there are like, a million 9-10 reviews yet everyone in here is like "omg a 7 this game is trash canceling my pre-order." What's wrong with all of you?

It's more to with the reviewer than the review itself. People trust Van Ord's opinion. I don't think anyone is saying it's trash because it's got a 7.

Just checking, who besides IGN and DF has done videos of their review buid? I've looked around and it looks like there is very little if any videos for the moment. We just got a retail copy and I'm not sure if videos or even streams are allowed or not...

Happens all the time. People always pay attention to the one low score rather than the numerous high ones. Most of those people are ones that weren't really going to pick up the game anyway or were at least on the edge about it.

Maybe it's because I played Origins, but this kinda looks like more of the same old Batman, aside from the tank stuff. Not that it's a bad thing, but I can see why someone wouldn't give it a super high score.

Strange how Rocksteady manage to still be so excellent, yet fall short on boss fights even after three tries...

None of it bothers me though. First triple A game on release I'm getting on my laptop. Have mercy on me PhysX!

This game's really tempting, though I'm not quite finished with Witcher 3 yet. The bat mobile stuff doesn't seem appealing at all to me so I wonder if I'll end up agreeing with Gamespot's opinion if I actually do pick this up.

How on God's earth is MGS2 higher rated than MGS3

Because it's the better game :p

Exactly. I have the game pre-ordered and still think that it is going to be fantastic. Kevin just seems to have some valid concerns and explained why rather well. All I am doing is acknowledging that there might be some things that I may not be fond of, despite thinking that it is going to be a great game. I am not going to dismiss well reasoned criticism just because he did not go full stop fanboy in his review.

Heh, I'm legit surprised Batmobile is the weakest link according to these reviews. It has been hyped to hell and back for this entry.

You know, semi off topic but I got curious from Gamespot's review being so low relatively.

I can honestly bet that's due to the timing of the game and of course whoever reviewed it. That series has had the most confusing assumptions made about it. Starting out 1 could not be beat and then everyone grabbed the game over the years and it went from being an achievement to just about every single gamer having something to say. I feel as though everyone can say the same thing about it by knowing 1 or 2 small details.

Well, some cunt on r/Batman had the gall to post an endgame spoiler right in the title of a thread so I guess I won't bother with my preorder of the game, despite the high praise.

That's what really put me off of Arkham City for so long... People couldn't keep their traps shut so I knew what would happen.

I did the USgamer review. Restrictions on my build prevented screenshots and direct video recording. Not sure how many others had the same rules.

That's what I hate about journalists making articles before the public can play it. I mean it's great they enjoy their job, but it robs people of their own enjoyment of the game.

Fucking GameStop cancelled my batmobile preorder. They didn't have enough. Wtf does that even mean. Pissed. Going to have to grumble and get a regular version.
Reviews are solid which is good to see.

The batmobiles were defective. Check out the thread on it.

Yea just saw that as well. Seems like he's lying though as people who have the game are saying it's not true in the comments.

Because it's the better game. (imo and their opinion)

The technology wasn't being shown off as much as it was later on. You had nothing to compare it to except the original which was outstanding. Fast forward years later and there's your universal attitude about MGS. It's caught in with everything else.

just a heads up, dont read IGN's review. It claims to be "spoiler free' but the review has spoilers all throughout it still.

just go off what first post says here for ign. its safe and spoiler free

best game this console generation? Bold statement. Watch out Witcher 3

Wow! Those are some bold words!

We'll see this Tuesday!

Forced vehicle segments are alllllways annoying in games. But I guess it depends on how it's handled.

If the batmobile is fun to play with, then it shouldn't be a problem if some gameplay scenarios necessitate the use of a batmobile.

I'll have to read the review in depth.

When I'm shopping on amazon, I always read the lowest scored reviews first. I need to make sure that people's gripes with a product aren't also going to be dealbreakers for me as well.
Idk, if something is being very well received I tend to take that as the overall consensus over picking one review and saying "yea I'll go with this."

Thanks for that, it certainly seemed odd that no one did videos and even the IGN video review was basically all trailer footage.
I had only heard about the monday night embargo, I guess that's when videos will be allowed :)

Because MGS2 is a true masterpiece that blew everyone's minds.

And to this day, Greg Kasavin's review of MGS2 counts as one of the best reviews I have ever seen. I remember downloading it slowly via 56k modem. Thsoe first few sentences slayed me. :D

Considering reviewers give out 9's and 10's like they're candies these days, I'll give it a rent and see if I like it. I could never get into previous Batman games.

Any word on how long the main story is? I usually plow through the story and then do the side stuff so I have all the gadgets.

This is one of the few games I'm extremely sensitive about spoilers, so I'm avoiding reading reviews until I've had sufficient time to clear the story.

I'm getting the game Tuesday, the reviews are good, but for some reason I expected more. I had a feeling the batmobile wasn't gonna be a great addition.
