Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

Nice.

Honestly, it's troubling that large puzzle sections require the Batmobile as well as do boss fights. The Batmobile should have been another option for travel, and they should have focused on ways to reward you for traveling on the streets as opposed to always gliding in the sky. OR just don't do anything, and let people pick. And who cares if most choose gliding over it. I would have been okay with using it in sections to get across gaps, or blowing through large chunks of walls/barriers. But based on this video, I can absolutely see it getting tedious with boss fights designed around it, as well as forcing large puzzle sections with it.

Why is it troubling that some puzzles require the Batmobile? There were puzzles in Arkham City that required pretty much every single one of Batman's gadgets and methods of traversal so adding the Batmobile to that list is perfectly natural.

I am dumbfounded that so many people feel that the Batmobile should have been totally and completely optional when the series has never operated that way. The Arkham games have ALWAYS mandated use of Batman's entire arsenal.

Hmm I was a little concerned about the batmobile and it seems like it could be the weakest link in the game as I feared. I still have most of the Witcher 3 unplayed so I'll propably hold off for a little while before buying this.

I might be other thinking something, but I wouldn't watch the IGN review, a comment kinda suggests something in the game.

They mention the inclusion of the 3 Robins

Wow, Was expecting good, but not this good. This makes the wait
for the goty next year
much worse. Sounds fantastic!

That is simply not true, I have not even seen the shark repellent spray and it would have come in handy in Arkham City!

I fear I will be siding with Gamespot when I get my hands on the game. That combat felt pretty tired already by the third game and it doesn't seem like they've done much or anything to revamp it.

? Gamespot specifically praised the combat and said it was better than ever. That wasn't the issue he had with the game.

Some are fine. If what the reviewer says is true, a lot of puzzles and it getting tedious, is indeed troubling.

Also when I said optional, I say that in reaction of them going the complete opposite and making it forced in too many sections (again assuming this review is right). I would have been fine with Batmobile needed to get into certain sections. Used in a puzzle here and there. This review makes it sound like a lot of puzzles and boss encounters are designed around it and it becomes tedious.

Ok where do I preorder to maximize DLC and extras and shit...thinking it might be cheaper to try and get as much DlC at $60 instead of waiting for the base game to drop to $40.

Wow pretty surprised at the Gamespot review.

I completelely agree with their review of Witcher 3, it's a true 10/10 and of the best games I've ever played (I'm still playing so no spoilers) ... So I'm very curious about their Arkham verdict. I'll guess I'll see for myself.

Though its great to see other sites give it a good score, I think I'll end up loving it as well since he's my favorite hero.

I like how there are like, a million 9-10 reviews yet everyone in here is like "omg a 7 this game is trash canceling my pre-order." What's wrong with all of you?

They announced that the season pass comes with all retailer-exclusive content, so that might be your best bet.

So, if the world is truly open world, are there lots of neat places of interest that you get to by having unlocked specific powers and abilities?

I love open world games like Zelda where you can get to certain places only after discovering an ability. Is there that kind of puzzle/platform aspect to the world?

Can't wait for Tuesday! Kudos to Amazon too for not only bumping my LE copy for Tuesday delivery but also crediting me back all shipping costs. lol

Not a single Xbox One review? Is it still that Sony deal in effect?

doubt it has anything to do with the marketing deal, The Witcher 3's marketing deal was with Microsoft and the review copies were still the PS4 version

GameStop has the Red Hood dlc at launch with preorder or the season pass will include everything (Red Hood will be available in August I believe they said?)

OP said they called combat encounters monotonous.

That is in reference to the batmobile sections, I think.

edit: Or maybe it is freeflow, it's a bit unclear in the 'The Bad' section of the review, while the word monotonous is only specifically mentioned in the review in regards to the batmobile sections.

I'm not saying it's not tedious or overused (no idea since I haven't played it) but so many people seem so against the concept of the Batmobile existing in the game that they seem to be holding it to a standard that doesn't make sense considering the series' history. Using all of Batman's gadgets and traversal methods has always been mandatory in the games. Hell that was a huge part of what the first game part Metroidvania in structure.

Seems like the Batmobile is forced on you more than anything else. You're also not taking into account that some people might not want to drive so much in the game, especially if it's as frequently as it sounds. Other gadgets don't change the genre of the game entirely.

I honestly don't get why people are being this hard on the Batmobile. The Batmobile is a gadget in Batman's arsenal. The Arkham games have always demanded that you use Batman's arsenal at certain points. Why people ever expected the Batmobile to be a completely optional choice is beyond me.

Witcher 3 and this within just a few weeks of each other. This year and its releases remind me a lot of how I felt about the releases of 2010. Just great game after great game.

Hopefully my 980 Ti will ship to me from EVGA(step-up) this weekend so I'm good to go by Monday. I've always loved how the Arkham series uses Nvidia PhysX/Gamewotks features. The fog and debris in Arkham City looked great if you had the horsepower to push it. I'm thinking Arkham Knight will be no different.

OP said they called combat encounters monotonous.

Reviewer said hand to hand combat is incredible for most of the game. Batmobile combat is not fun in a lot of the Batmobile designed boss fights.

And that both hand to hand and Batmobile combat gets loaded down at the very end, that both become tedious.

I don't get it either. It's an outlier, look at all the other reviews that are praising the shit out of the game. People just grasping onto anything to give them an excuse to not spend $60.

True, we have always used this gadgets. But the Batmobile is a vehicle and I can see how having it forced on you too much in long, tedious sequences might get just a tad old. I'll have to see for myself of course, but from what I read, Kevin makes a very sound argument.

Great reviews - it's not surprising the Batmobile isn't quite for everyone, but I'm loving all the praise for the game's open world mechanics.

Driving and combat with the Batmobile both look fun to me, but forcing it's use with too many of the puzzles could be a pain.

Yep. But it seems here, they have forced boss encounters that aren't fun (according to the video). So when you mix that + too many puzzles with it, it def feels like they were compensating for people choosing to glide rather than use the Batmobile.

Tedious is never good (again, even assuming he's right). And if in fact the Batmobile sections are tedious, I'd rather they just left the Batmobile more optional if they couldn't find a better balance.

Yeah, I am sure I will still love the game on the whole. I am just expecting some of the Batmobile sequences to get on my nerves.

I think everyone is better off knowing that the smaller arkham knight tanks can be quickly taken out with the machine gun if you aim for their glowing sensor. Don't have to wait for the main gun to reload every time.

After Arkham Knight, Batman has been perfected — and the end result is the best game of this console generation.

best game this console generation? Bold statement. Watch out Witcher 3

Waiting for Jim Sterling's review. He tends to have a no-holds barred approach when it comes to reviews pointing out elaborating all the nuances and quips of the reviews as possible from performance to padding.

Kevin VanOrd's review highlights my concerns about this game and it's disappointing Rocksteady falls under the "bigger-better-badder" game cliche design phase wihtout polishing up the weaker aspects of the game.

See what happens is, you have the people on the fence or that were not wanting the game at all. They see the one score that is average at worst, and then use that to base their reasoning and thought process on why it's def a warning sign, something they are worried about, and why they are gonna wait it out or cancel it. Meanwhile the rest of the people they can't take serious for some reason are rating it extremely high but they can't figure out how to spin these remarks to their advantage. It happens every time.

It's one of Batman's signature gadgets. Quite a lot has changed since Asylum, but still. No sense in being incredibly picky about it. That Polygon 10/10 is impressive. I guess the tides would change even years after you've played the games. If it's a step above Origins I am pleased. I've finished the first three and Rocksteady did a good job with the first two. I wasn't feeling Origins because it felt too tight in a few places.

The thing is, this series goes from being great to having an incredible amount of people complain about it. I'm a pretty big Batman fan and even I've been annoyed by a lot of things said about it.

I can honesty say that I have never played a better Batman game in my life.

I feel as though some people just want to put it down because that's true.
