Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

JQeK2fc.gif

We've come a long way.

This game kicked so much fucking ass.

Am I the only heathen waiting for a side-universe story where Batman cracks and gives into killing? I want to see the Dark Knight be (I tried to describe my desires in Game of Thrones feeling-ish terms but it sounds weird once I read it) harsh and absolute.

WB Montreal will probably do alternating DC games, Suicide Squad and Batman, 2 games every 3 years or something. They're pretty large.

It's smart business if they can get a confident team together. They were on the right track with Origins. Hell, I'd love to see them just add more stories maybe based on different Batman mythos' adding to the what Rocksteady has established. Give me a new story ever month for $10. But actual quality stories. 3-5 hours. I'd be game for playing a new adventure every month.

I'm hoping to see the mod community do something other than reskins with this. I'd love to see a modder mod the Bat-mobile to be similar to the Batwing or whatever the shit was called from Dark Knight Rises. That would be awesome.

I don't mind if they keep the same core mechanics for future batman games, but imo they should stop doing open worlds set on "the longest night ever". This will be the fourth such game with that premise and realistically they should not be bound to this template. I feel like they're just afraid of rocking the boat too much, but in future there's nothing stopping them from building up more linear scenarios that take place over a period of days or weeks and don't let you run around the city doing whatever.

Don't know about shorter stories every couple of months, but I certainly wouldn't mind a game based in a different aspect of the Batman mythos. I still hope and pray for a regular Batman Beyond game one day. It'll never happen, but I can hope.

Also, Origins: Am I the only one who got better at the combat in AA and AC after getting used to Origins? I swear the timing for counters in Origins was much tighter compared to AA/AC.

Even though this will be Rocksteady's last Batman, I hope there's more (even by WB Montreal).

I'll be pretty sad if after AK there's no more Arkham in my life.

Also,

OT: Joker is Arkham Knight

But will it? They might have said that Arkham Knight will be the last game in their Arkham trilogy. But to me that doesn't necessarily mean it will be their last Batman game.

Are there trophies tied to difficulty? I just finished death march wither 3 and I just want an easy romp !

I just looked through them, and I didnt see any.

And wtf, I also just noticed they added trophies for every dlc. Including scarecrow nightmare missions, harley quinn, a family matter(I think its called. what is this one? Ive never heard of it), and the red hood dlc.

Edit: oh duh, that matter of family one is the batgirl dlc.

While i doubt AK will be their last DC based superhero game, I wouldn't be surprised if it really was their last Batman 'solo' project.

Really? If so, that's a shitty thing to do. I don't care about trophies, but it's ridiculous to have to buy all dlc to platinum the game.

I think they also said it's time they had a change and explored other ideas. I'd be surprised if that happens to be another Batman game. Having said that, would they revisit it later in the future? Perhaps.

DLC trophies are optional, just like any other game. They are not required for plat.

^lol

If someone can swap the Flashpoint Batman model with Red Hood's, then that poster above can get a pseudo Batman killing experience.

And a Batman game is a good opportunity for episodic content done right. DLC on the level of Cold, Cold Heart with a substantial, yet standalone story (that's not a "save the entire city" or "worst night ever" theme) with some new spins on gameplay is a perfect fit with Batman's popular rogues gallery.

Absolutely. I'd be cool with them doing 1 more "longest night" type game to prove they got the chops and then give me a new game by growing and expanding the franchise.

I was just thinking the other day, I wonder if someone could change the time of day on PC, and what that would look like. We'll see I'm sure. Hopefully a smart person will come along and feel challenged enough to do it.

I just got done beating Origins on a new game+ on Hard. I love playing these games without those stupid onamonapia-like icons flashing over their heads. Makes the game much more challenging and feel fair. I think Origins combat is a bit faster than AC so it feels jarring especially if you play them back to back, but the added few layers to combat are nice, and I especially love the new ninja enemy type. They are the most challenging common enemy of any Arkham game and are fun because they'll reverse your attacks as much as you will theirs and it becomes this DOA2 like dance of brawling. It has the best bosses too. The only problem with Origins is that it didn't feel like the improvement to Arkham City, that Arkham City was to Arkham Asylum. It felt more like a refinement. It had a huge new area, but it didn't stand out enough to make it seem fresh.

So just finished Arkham City for the first time (i always got to 3/4 and got caught up in something else) and.. well

Jokers dead right? But i mean come on.. COME ON

Batman: Arkham Knight |OT| Seriously guys.. it's probably the Joker.

Yeah, it's DX11 implementation was terrible in comparison to how well DX9 worked. I didn't know about the Witcher 3 mod as I put the game down waiting for my gpu to come in the mail.

I waited till this game and Witcher 3 to upgrade. I wasn't getting the performance out of my 780 that I was happy with. I put it in my wifes PC, took her 770 and shipped the 980 I bought for Witcher 3 in via step-up waiting for the 980 Ti(should be here Tuesday). I love the PhysX Gameworks tech that nVidia has snapped up. It's why I prefer to play the Arkham games on my PC. It may be fluff. But it's delicious fluff.

Arrggh!! So good, give me more.

I love the fluff to, but not if its going to cause major performance issues. Just to clarify here are my specs:

Intel 4790K
Nvidia GTX 980
16 GB RAM
Gsync monitor running at 1080p

With gsync turned on I can handle my FPS going down into the low 50's cause it's not noticeable. If it goes anywhere below that you can forget it, the fluff is gone. For clarification in Witcher 3 with the specs above before installing the mod if I turned hair works on I would lose 30 FPS when the camera was on Geralt. No fluff is worth that.
