I feel the watchmen film failed in portraying any of the nuances of its source material, which I blame primarily on the fact that it emphasizes its action scenes more than anything.

This is a cool little detail - one guy tries to slice Batman's neck with a knife during the fight but the cowl deflects it and sparks just fly off.

I think it'll be fine to put Darkseid in early. Given that the general public still doesn't have the kind of confidence in this new DC cinematic universe they do in the MCU, they need to lead with strength.

And there are enough cosmic level heavy hitters of note in the DCU that if the Justice League form fighting Darkseid (probably just repelling his invasion of earth, not going to Apokolips or anything like that) it won't be devastating to their future endeavors.
