Batman v Superman - New Official Trailer

Now WONDER WOMAN saving bat and destroying lots of buildings in the process make sense xD

Take a lot at the superman statue shot earlier in the movie. You can see a large part of Gotham still being rebuilt. I bet those buildings get demolished again at the end of this movie.

Doomsday? And people say MCU has terrible villains

But Batman V Superman has Lex and Doomsday. That's kind of a hard list to top. I mean, it does kind of work... billionaire vs eccentric billionaire and demigod vs another demigod. I guess Wonder Woman is there to break up the manly man party?

When was the last time that a major villain in a comic based film was kept secret? I mean no one knew the villain was in the film until he appears on screen? Doomsday being in the film was going to be reveled at some point.

The synopsis basically points to another villain in the film not named Lex.

I didn't read the synopsis. I guess it depends on when he actually enters the film. If it's at the halfway mark or under, so be it. But if it was something introduced right before the climax begins, I think that stinks. We'll have to wait and see how the film plays out, but it smells like he only shows up about half an hour away from the end of the film, and if so, I really don't like it. This film is called Batman v Superman, it would have sold no matter what. If Doomsday only comes in near the end, then I think the marketing department should have shown restraint.

But again, we'll have to see how it plays out. I still feel like the whole plot of the movie was just gone over with that trailer though. And I don't mean the summary, I mean the whole plot.

Monster growl!

"oh sh--"

explosion boom zap zap crackle pop

badass silence, wonder woman pose

"she with you?"

"I thought she was with you!"

duhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuh badass trinity pose duhnunununu drum hits too duhnununuhnuh

Sorry, I just could not express how dumb the second half of the trailer was cut together in coherent fashion.
The hard cut to the terrible music during the money shot of the heroes together is just to much.

I loved it, but not going to read 1500 posts to find out if I'm actually IN the minority or just feel like I am from the first and last page. :/

Maybe I'm weird, but Lex was my favorite part.

I love the tension between Batman and Superman. I sorta dig this weird, partly on the spectrum Lex Luthor.

Aside from that, the trailer was complete shit. Terribly edited, and that whole Doomsday and Wonder Woman reveal was not good.

Also, the fucking jokes. I am so tired of superhero movies being so goddamn bipolar in terms of tone. Fucking pick if you are going to be more serious or if you are aiming for giggles. You can have a few good jokes peppered into your serious, dark movie, but they did to fucking work within the world you are creating. I hoped with Goyer gone that these movies would have been cleansed of this cliched and tonally inappropriate humor, but I guess not. What a terrible way to sell your super gritty man vs. god movie. I really hope that this is just for the trailers, otherwise I know I'm gonna hate this shit as much as Man of Steel. Batfleck seems awesome, don't waste him, Snyder.

The trailer should've ended after superman says "what have you done" with doomsday's roar and a black screen. Should not have shown him and the rest of the stuff after.
Yep. Even with the rumor and speculation about Doomsday, the general public that don't read up on these movies, were just spoiled as soon as they watch this trailer. Don't go Terminator Genisys, studios!

I've watched the trailer a few more times and Batfleck is like the only thing I'm liking in this movie. I like the batsuit and he looks like Wayne, and his performance seems to be pretty solid. Cavill is still the wrong choice for Superman. Wonder Woman is still too skinny. Doomsday is missing bones on his face making him not look like Doomsday. Eisneberg is a fucking disaster. I'm sure once Aquaman Poseidon shows up I'll be frowning again. It just feels all rushed to get the Justice League movie out to counter Avengers. Hopefully, the movie is good enough and DC sets up Darkseid as their Thanos.

The way the music is cut towards the end of the trailer when Wonder Woman shows up is so hilariously terrible.

Other than that I quite liked it, I should probably watch Man of Steel

He's done great things for The Flash on the CW and should be a sign that WB/DC could faithfully and entertainingly pull from the best in comics. Between helping punch up Terrio's revision of the script and the fact that he's co-writing with Affleck for a Batman film honestly gives me hope as they continue to add more and more stuff.

Don't forget that Ben is probably gonna also direct that Batman movie. He's a fantastic director and hope is very much alive even if BvS craps the bed.

What a shitty trailer. This trailer should be a case study for how to derail a fanbase and dehype a product in three minutes. And this is the one going to be playing in movie theaters? Good luck DC.

lol what?

Nothing stands on its own anymore, there are no arcs for the main heroes. It all about setting up future crossovers rather than telling a good story. The last comic book movie I enjoyed was Guardians of the galaxy because it kept the crossover stuff to a minimum and focused on Star Lord. It was nothing amazing but I didn't feel like it was just setting up a crossover with Iron Man.

This movie exists because WB need to launch their own universe to compete with Marvel, not because they have a great story to tell. Crossovers with multiple heroes should be the side dish to the single-hero films. Not the main course. We all wanted a Batman v Superman movie but this seems Batman v Superman x Wonder Woman + Aquaman x Joker + Lex + Doomsday. It's too much.

But honestly, it's OK.

I will sum up my thoughts quick

Lex doesn't sound like Lex

Doomsday bros? All the rich history of the DCU and Doomsday in 2015? Ha

It was like "Oh shit aren't we forgetting something? Oh Yeah Wonder Woman quick toss some shit in there"

The superhero genre is just bipolar. It's supposed to skirt the melodramatic. This is why you can have the dark, brooding Batman alongside the bright and colorful, wise-cracking Robin or
brilliantly, the opposite if you read Grant Morrison's "Batman & Robin"
. That dynamic might make the lows and highs less effective and the tone scattered, but it's either part of the appeal or failures of the genre.

You're almost never going to get past the pulp.

I really doubt this movie is going to crap the bed financially. It might not be the amazing movie everyone wants it to be but it's going to kill the box office just because of brand recognition. Critically might be another story, but that's never really stopped audiences from keeping a franchise alive and going.

I thought it started off ok, didn't like Lex, but whatever. At the end, I was like, "what the hell did I just watch??" My goodness, that was something else.

Seriously if i didn't watch on an offical channel i'd be convinced it was a fan made trailer.

OMG, yes

See, this is my concern with Snyder.

You earn a world-weary Batman.
You earn a Batman vs. Superman conflict.
You earn fucking Doomsday.

I get it, Zack, you're a comic book fan. You love The Dark Knight Returns. You probably love the Death of Superman. But god damn have you started the DC Cinematic Universe with no sense of patience. Fucking Doomsday.

Ah, shit.

Ah, shit.

no you don't. to hell with doomsday. i hope they murk his ass real quick and he never shows up in these movies again.

you don't need to earn anything. the last thing we need is more buildup in these comic book films. pre-established personalities are more than fine.

Have to disagree with you, villain-wise. That's exactly what's wrong with the Marvel movies. Villains are introduced the same movie they're dispatched. There's no suspense in an already pretty formulaic structure as a result.

i'm talking about world-building to make it feel like the villain's been around forever though.

marvel hasn't been able to do that yet. suicide squad looks like it might though, maybe it will maybe it won't. but if it pulls that off then it will prove what should be an obvious point that so many sequels of buildup aren't needed to throw you in the shit.

what was he suppose to start with? A Lex Luthor real estate scheme?

What works in comics doesn't necessarily work in cinema, though. If I read those lines in a comic book, I probably wouldn't be as bothered by it. I'm sure most people aren't even close to as bothered by it as I am, but I don't think lines like that work within this adaptation. As I said before, I don't mind humor or lighter elements in something like this, but it needs to make sense. Those lines, along with some of the stuff in Man of Steel, are really jarring and illogical, considering the tone they are going for.

Ah, shit.

Doomsday never fucking earned shit in the comics. His entire fucking purpose was to kill Superman so DC could have a huge event. His superpower is being able to take more punches than anyone else and he still fucking lost to Superman.

He just shows up and beats everyone. He didn't earn nothing in that run of comics.

Doomsday is the only villain worst than Bloodsport. And I am happy they're going to one and done him.

How you like that reference Slay?

I don't think it's a lack of patience. It's just more of a desire to do things slightly differently than they've been done before. This isn't Marvel where there hasn't been a major adaptation of the characters on screen before it, so WB and Snyder must feel forced to do something a little distanced from things like Nolan and Singer's attempts.

I think the world-weary Batman was the option chosen because Nolan's films treaded so much of the other aspects (Origin story batman, Joker, Bane, etc).

Doomsday was probably chosen because
  • Luthor in Power Armor wouldn't be much of a threat to the Trinity.
  • Most other villains would be more suited for a full on JL film (huge threats like Braniac, Darkseid, Imperiex, etc) or a solo film (lesser or more personal threats like Parasite, Metallo, Joker, Ares, First-Born, etc).
  • Doomsday is a dumb brute that has only had one noteworthy story in 1992 where he was nothing more than a plot device. He hits that happy medium in terms of threat by being able to overpower Superman but being manageable by the Trinity.

As for the Batman vs. Superman conflict, there was a great line by Roy Harper in an issue of Brad Meltzer and Geoff Johns' Justice League where he noted almost all superheroes that meet either fight each other at the start and then team up or team up and then betray each other. This is conflict is just inherent to the genre.

Can we talk about Batman's "how not to get melted by laser-beams strategy"?

Shit, you have Batman in a power-suit. How about Lex in a bigger power-suit. Or take Metallo, the idea of a kryptonite powered cyborg/robot. Mix-and-match.

I mean earn the whole 'beast that can kill Superman thing'. But I guess instead we'll get "Hey, gee, friends. That 'Doomsday' really would have caused the 'death of Superman', haha. Thanks for the help guys, I guess I need partners. We're a real - Justice League".

I can teach you no more.

Jimmy Olsen on Supergirl makes me laugh because I actually spent money on a comic with Bloodsport back in the day. When Superman had to choice between Olsen and a black guy.

Super entertaining reaction video by Greg Miller.

This was pretty much my reaction. Don't give a fuck about the tone, editing, music, nit picking dialogue...its fucking Batman and Superman with WW in the same movie fighting fucking Doomsday. I've been waiting my who life for this shit.

Yet people shit their pants for 73yo Harrison Ford and Captain fighting IM and WS in slow motion.

Trailer is actually pretty bad. Didn't really feel like an ordinary trailer. But i don't give a shit because seeing everything in live action for the first time just makes my 8yo self cry like a bitch. I dig the Bat voice too.

Super entertaining reaction video by Greg Miller.

Why does he keep going on about Bizarro? Lex just makes Doomsday from Zod, it makes way more sense for Superman to just actually be Superman. Seriously he seems to think every other shot of Superman is actually Bizarro, Superman would barely be in this film at that rate.
