Since I presume most people skip PGs, I guess I'll throw a little roundup for those in the last year, organized from most worth watching to least:
Ty Law vs. Jay Rell. This was technically part of last year's Christmas Classic, but I'll throw it in here just because I feel like it's one of the most entertaining overall PG battles. Both are super creative writers and makes for a good style clash.
Brizz Rawsteen vs. Young X. Not only the best PG all year, but arguably a top 10 battle. Both guys brought it, made for an interesting style clash, and some very memorable sequences and some great crowd reactions making for a lot of replayability.
Mandatory viewing, and probably the best performance from both.
Prep vs. DOT.
Mandatory viewing, one of the most entertaining PGs all year, and worth it for all the DOT references people are making everywhere in battle rap. Both of them have a very unique style, and might have one of the best crowd reactions in battles all year (peep Daylyt in the far back as well).
T Top vs. City Towers. Underrated PG, but City Towers is a great writer and brought some :wow: bars all 3 rounds. On the flipside, T Top just spits that shit that makes you believe him and keep nodding your head through like TALK THAT SHIT. One of the best performances I've seen from both, and one of the better PGs. Zimmerman line is classic.
Stash vs. Xcel. Barfest, but both of them don't necessarily have the performance to give the battle that sort of energy, but some of the shit they're saying is intense and Daylyt (a.k.a. Xcel's #1 fan) is wildin out there in the front.
They say some of my bars go over heads.. well read a book
Uno Lavoz vs. Jae Laww. Uno's opponent might not be well known, but he's just as funny. Probably the most amusing PG, and I'd probably watch it a lot more if Uno wasn't fumbling as much as he did.
Showoff vs. Brizz Rawsteen. Been watching this a lot lately, despite Showoff's epic choke. This was Brizz' PG debut and he went in (
I'll rip a BONE out your cheek, tell you BON APPETIT). Showoff's third has some sick wordplay as well, especially with how he addressed the Tsu Surf comparisons. Showoff is one of those slow it down/subtitle rappers though, as a heads up.
Saint Mic vs. Young X. Saint Mic kind of lacks personality, but he had some shit here and there and some comedic, cheesy bars closer to the end of the battle. If you enjoyed Young X in Brizz vs. Young X, you should watch this, because he's pretty entertaining and this was his PG debut.
Th3 Saga vs. Blaqu Mugga. This is a fascinating battle, as Th3 Saga is a Christian rapper with bars and kind of a unique approach, while Blaqu Mugga's entire style is kind of based on flipping and making jokes out of other peoople's lines.
Danny Myers vs. Mark Miner. Mark Miner isn't completely whack, as he had a nice comic book scheme and some good lines here and there, but this is a classic example of where performance can overpower anything. Except Danny's bars were better too. Worth watching for Danny alone, his second round was fantastic especially.
Blaksmif vs. Gutta. Underrated battle. Gutta was kind of uncomfortable and didn't really get the reaction some of his bars deserved as he's a pretty good writer and spits his shit uniquely. Blaksmif is a kind of silly, comedic rapper. I don't think he's particularly good but.. it's oddly entertaining.
Illanoiz vs. D Gunna. Not a really rewatchable battle because of Gunna's choke (
Face shot, letting that last round go like D Gunna), but Illanoiz had some pretty great schemes, and I think he has his own swag and a rare scent of believability. Worth a watch for the sake of Calicoe telling D Gunna SMH I choked and kept going against Lux and you can't even keep going on some PG shit?
DOT vs. Chess. Not a fan of this battle, but it has more classic reaches from DOT. Damn near every line in his first round makes no sense, it's almost worth watching for how gassed the shit is, it's hysterical. Watching Queenzflip's reactions is hilarious.
I'm steps outside of your house, THATS A PORCH
Steams vs. Stylez. I thought Steams came super light and I couldn't really bring myself to care for Stylez. Steams choked too, and I feel that this is the point where I got tired of Steams. Thirsty battle.
Brooklyn Carter vs. King Moneyy. Probably the most gassed PG of all. I guess that's what happens when both of these guys are WeGoHard natives. Again, only watch this if you are that thirsty, as it's a bit tiring to wade through.
Young Mose vs. Conya Raw. Probably the worst PG all year, Conya Raw had some shit at times but overall both guys lack that x-factor. Watch this if you're that thirsty for battles.
