Battlefield 3 PC Performance thread

Apparently you can make the game look even better with console commands.

WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapResolution 2048
PostProcess.DynamicAOEnable 1

If people are finding these console tweaks, surely there's hope to shrink the fucking chat box.

Right guys? Guise...

Really? Isn't 650w on the safe side for a 580?
what'd the load wattage on a 580 anyways?

Its on the safe side unless you do massive OC´s, the recommended PSU from nvidia is 650W if my memory serves me right.

Asus G73SW ROG Gaming Notebook

Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM @ 2.2ghz (turbo 2.9ghz)
8gb DDR RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5 VRAM
Win 7 64 bit

1080P @ 60hz
Setting Lowest Possible (everything off) : 48fps
Setting Medium: 36fps
Setting High: 28fps
Setting Ultra: 15 - 18fps

720P @ 60hz
Setting Lowest Possible (everything off) : 78fps
Setting Medium: 60 - 68fps
Setting High: 48fps
Setting Ultra: 22 - 28fps

Playing on the Plasma @ 720p is fine, game is ugly on low at 1080P.
gives me hope my 2.7/3.4 turbo cpu 6/core & OC 460GTX can play this on high at 1600x900 at 60 fps, if not I'll settle for 720p

Well he's gotta enjoy it somehow :p, playing games is not an option so all that is left is telling people about it with cool 1-liners. Let him have his fun.

Alright I have tried everything to fix this "Battlefield 3 has stopped working" crash. I sure hope DICE fixes this soon because the game is so awesome from the 10 minute chunks of time I can actually play without crashing.

What computer spec does he have now anyways? also I think that post was to show no hit on fps while having AA on which is informative.

lol this game is a fucking joke. How is it that the beta is more stable then the retail game. At first i thought it was a graphics problem. Nope, beta never had a problem. Then i thought it was punkbuster, nope! altough it did last longer then 4 min of gameplay!
what a disaster! my favorite game/series and I get this shit. Never been so frustrated.

BF3 is running pretty flawlessly on my end. Sounds like you need to troubleshoot more.

It wouldn't show an fps it if hes locked at 60fps via vsync.
He mostly likely would have something like 80fps -> 70fps.

Anyone have a problem where you can't raise your sights? When I hold right mouse button it just randomly stutters between hip and raised and sometimes stays up or down for a couple seconds.

Looks like updating my mobo's audio driver fixed my BSOD/freeze and sound stutter problem when playing mp for more than 10 min.

This crashing in MP is really pissing me off. When I get a game it plays fine. However I keep crashing during respawns. It's worse during Conquest matches. At least in Rush matches when it happens I'll crash when maps are being changed. The game is already paid for so I guess I'll wait for the game to get patched more before throwing in the towel but honestly I think this is the last PC game not titled Starcraft I buy. That's mainly because I can't miss out on the Starcraft expansions. I'm to invested in that story (was there when Brood War was first released) to miss how it ends. This is really is just the last in a list of games I've been frustrated by in recent months even after upgrading parts of my PC. I'm just tired of being frustrated by just getting the damn games to run well.

Guess I haven't missed much by not playing the last two days.

I almost forgot the time I jumped from too high (maybe 6-8 feet) and got stuck in the ground. Couldn't move forward/backwards. Only sideways. Had to exit out. Maybe this weekend will be better.

Honestly, and it pains me to say it, we really are in a dark age. Even in the so called "dark ages" 8 years ago, things were never like this. It's almost like the PC publishers are begging people to never buy anything new and just wait for a clearance sale (and after the patches have unbroken the most blatant things).

I didn't pay $700 for SLI so that I could look at this game through a dirty camera.

My favorite part is that it's just a texture from a library instead of actual Bokah.

You will notice all the dots are the same.

Damn. I really hope there's a way to turn it off. It's really killing the experience for me. This was not here in beta...no idea why they decided to add it.

My last post got buried hopefully someone will see it and know what's wrong?

Having a problem with performance

System:

2600K 5.0ghz
16GB DDR3 1600
5970x2 OC'd 870/1200
1080p, MSAA 2x, AF 16x, FXAA High. Everything on ultra

When I run the game I'm getting 30-50fps. In the beta I was getting 50-90fps. When I look at my GPU usage GPU1 is running at 99% while GPU2 is spiking and dropping going no higher than 40%, when it spikes it instantly drops to 0 then spikes again to 15-40% usage.

I'm running 11.10 Preview 3 with Cap 4 profiles, I'm not getting stuttering but just poor performance. I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 and 11.10 P3 drivers and CAP4 profiles

Here's a screen of what my MSI Afterburner looks like after some intense fire fights.

MSI.jpg

As you can see the temps are completely fine they don't go above 60C and the card is rated for 93C before throttling kicks in, VRAM isn't going over 90C according to GPUz sensors.

Is anyone else having very long load times?

In multiplayer? I am. By the time I spawn into the game the match has already started and sometimes the first MCOM has been tagged. This never happen in Bad Company 2. Hell this never happen in the BF3 Alpha or Beta.

AMD X4 640 3.0GHz
4GB DDR2
4870 1GB
Win 7

720p on Low.

Really ?, please tell me drivers will improve this shit (using catalyst preview in OP), having a hard time enjoying this what with the performance :/

I disagree.

Yeah, on my i5 2500k @ 4 Ghz too. I don't get it.

Load times are dependent on your HDD.

On my intel SSD the largest MP map loads in about 6 seconds.

If you guys are using a mechanical hdd make sure you have defragged.

just got home and was able to fire it up for the first time

1. The 360 controller implementation is half-assed
2. Running on Ultra settings with 40-50 FPS
i5 2500k (stock)
4GB DDR3
GTX 570 (stock)

3. Loading is a pain in the ass and takes foreeeeeeeeever
4. running the BF beta drivers

Beta didn't have ultra textures. Might want to drop them to high, since apparently multi GPU setups only have access to half the memory cloned across both GPUs.

It really is sad but I don't see it changing. I have no problem with the console focus. I mainly console game myself. However BF3 was suppose to be different with the lead being on the PC. BS. I said think before but it's a certainty now. Outside of the upcoming Starcraft games I'm done with PC gaming. It's not worth the frustration anymore.

Windows says my drive is 0% fragmented but I guess I'll do it anyway. /: I really doubt that's the issue if the problem is so common.

It is not really a problem. It is just your mechanical HDD is slow. Hell even on my 10,000rpm WD VR drive shit took around 15-18 seconds to load largest map.

Also, you should be using something like Auslogics Disk Defrag (free) it moves all the files to the fastest area of your HDD when you select defrag and optimize.

...except Caspian Border loaded at least twice as fast in the beta. Well, it defragged, so I'm gonna test it and come back with the results.
