RTX 5080 | Review Thread

I'm looking to build a PC at some point later in the year, I understand that this card is shit from a gen to gen comparison, but for someone like myself building for the first time, it's a solid card right?
Building for the first time this is a great card, people just expected better improvement over the 4000 series

You will be very happy with a 5080 build

This reminds me of 2080 vs 1080 where the raster wasn't much better, but it had raytracing.

Or maybe it was 2080 ti vs 1080 ti. Can't remember lol

2080 to 3080 was a nice jump at 700$. And that's how much I''ve paid for it. Adjusted for inflation, it's still cheaper than 5080.
1080 to 2080 was maybe not that much faster but good enough and introduced RT and dlss. I remember I've bought 2070 ESPECIALLY FOR METRO EXODUS.
A buddy got 2070 and I had 1060 at the time, He brought that shit over, I tried metro exodus "yep" and ordered one for myself :D

Yeah I feel this is a small bump in performance but they added fake frames as the selling point lol.

yeah.. 1060 to 2070 was amazing jump.
Then jump to 3080 was incredible. Like I was so impressed. that 3080 was a fucking beast on release week. I remember watching exciting OC videos, running benchmarks (I love benchmarks) and it genuinely excited me.
But covid destroyed pc parts market and we still feel it today

So the 5000 series for now supports Smooth Motion thats frame gen for games which don't have frame gen. 4000 series support will come later.

been playing around with my 5080 and the OC vids definitely weren`t golden samples after all, or I got one as well...... I´m not done testing yet, but at least the OC levels ~3200/+375 we`ve seen in the vids run rock solid and still very cool.
That thing is redeeming itself at least a tiny bit right now.
Can`t remember the last GPU with that much out of the box OC potential without even running noteworthy hotter....
This reeks of artificial placement by NVIDIA.... 5080S/TI incoming.

I can see a 5080s even if everyone thought the gb203 die is maxed out in 5080.

Just cheap tweaks to clocks and use 3gb nand for 24gb vram.

Reminds me of 4870 to 4890

Jensen wins again.

The worst Blackwell GPU when it comes to performance/dollar. Get 5070ti or save money for 5090.

The 5070ti offers the best value, but I just can't imagine people saving up to buy an RTX 5090. I think the RTX 5090 is only for people who are loaded with money and who dont consider $2000-3000 price point expensive :).

Personally If I were thinking of buying a GPU right now, I would choose the 5080 over the 5070ti even though it's value isnt very good. The RTX 5080 has big overclocking potential, and it's often as fast as the RTX 4090 when overclocked and that's very nice. The price difference between the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5080 is maybe big for young people who need savings to buy a GPU, but for my wallet it's still within a acceptable margin. I would however never consider getting the RTX5090. $2000-3000 is just too much for a gaming GPU ni matter how you look at it and it's not like 5090 will drastically change gaming experience compared to 5080 (with just DLSSQ the 5080 gets similar performance as 5090 at native). However, the 5090 makes sense for professional use, so I can understand why people might want the best.

Personally If I were thinking of buying a GPU right now, I would choose the 5080 over the 5070ti even though it's value is exactly good. That's what made me buy a 5080 the overclock potential.

Over clocking with 12vhpwr cable. Lol, good luck.

As Daniel have said even at MSRP 5080 is 33% more expensive for 15% more performance but with current prices it's 50% more expensive (in US, in Poland it's over 30%). Of course you can overclock 5080 but at the same time shit isn't guaranteed and cooler may be not able to handle more power without getting very loud.

Right now the best "higher end" options are: used 4080/4080S, new 5070ti or new 9070XT. 4090 and 5090 are in entirely different segment.

And if someone have good enough GPU right now (for example 3080ti/3090, 7900XT/XTX) - they can just wait for RDNA5 (that is gonna be quite good I think) or 6xxx series from Nv, it can't possible worse than Blackwell?

I saw "framechasers" YT review and FE model (5080) was OC'ing like a beast even though FE has limited power budget. I also saw other reviews and you dont even need good AIB model to keep this chip cool and OC it to 4090 levels (stock level, because of course the 4090 can be also OC'ed).

In my opinion, paying 33% more for an additional 20% performance is worth it, but of course it all depends on perspective (and wallet size :P). YouTuber Framechaser overclocked the 4080S, 5070ti and 5080 to the maximum. Even then, the 5080 was still 20% faster than both 4080S and 5070ti and could often match the RTX 4090, which currently costs twice as much.

at least in the u.s, the 5080's $999 model has been available on bestbuy for over a week now. its only a matter of time other GPU manufacturers start reducing prices. Yes, at $1,400 its retarded but at $999, its the best value.

You really think it will drop that far?
there was an article recently that alluded to it.

they took down the article but i think it will drop. i go to microcenter every other week and all these GPUs have been in stock for months. They are all overpriced and the shelves are always full. no one is buying this overpriced shit. people have wised up.

remember 4080 also got a $200 price cut by nvidia. down from $1,200 to $1,000. i see the same happening for the 5080. especially seeing how the $999 model hasnt sold out in a week.

The gap between 5080 and 5090 is so fucking huge.

As someone who likes to use texture mods 16 gigabyte VRAM is too little at 4k.

But it is what is Nvidia has no competitors.
