Okay got this game a week ago been taking it slow playing it I was wondering a couple things:

Why is it sometimes when I don't receive no damage at all in a Verse I get a pure platinum but others I just get a gold? Do I need to be that more badass or quicker maybe both?

Is there a specific way to enable torture attacks? The opportunity seems to come up at random.

Why is it when fighting bosses every now and then the opportunity to do a counter/torture attack to really mess them up comes up whenever it seemingly feels like it? For example I was I getting my ass handed to me by Jeanne when you fight her the 2nd time and all of a sudden I got a chance to do one of those QTE beatdowns on her after fighting her 3 times before and it not popping up and that was how I beat her.

Also minor nuisance since I had gotten the air dodge I was double jumping/air dodging everywhere to get around and then when Id have those moments when the floor/building or whatever is crumbling beneath me I'd dash by it all and then be met with my demise because apparently I went too fast.

And I seem to do stages much better/faster when I play through them a second time. Mostly because I've done the trial and error the first time around.

So besides that are there any things/secrets I should know about? Also does anyone have any tips/tricks?

And since everyone is talking about how much they got it for I got it for 10 off amazon.

Using different combos is important in getting a higher score. Being quicker will help too. I think this has to be spoilered.

You can use a torture attack when you have enough magic (don't recall how much you need). You can see how much magic you have in the circular icons right under your health.

They're actually triggered by certain situations. If you pay close attention you can see they're triggered when the boss is in a certain state.

It's mega rare and expensive now. You surely got it back when the game released, right?

No, this was 2-3 months ago at the most.

edit: It was in September actually.

I've been scolded for not spoilering how to obtain higher scores. That's why I spoilered it. Seriously it wasn't meant to be a dick move.

The game rates you after every battle, you need to also be fast and get a good combo rating as well as not taking damage.

Plywood said:

Having at least one full bar of magic determines your ability to use torture attacks. It doesn't depend on what state the enemy is in.

It's not even remotely random. It depends on whether or not she decides to do a certain attacks. You simply damaged her enough to coax that attack out of her.

Then don't go too fast during those sections.

Whoever scolded you for that is an idiot and you should ignore them.

*sigh* I didn't KNOW bayonetta was such a great game when I heard about this guide. Now I want it (but I rather have a real Bayonetta Tumbler Doll)

I know I'll never get either. :(

You may have to "produce" more Wicked Waves. If you chain too many normal attacks without concluding with Wicked Waves, the points awarded for each punch and kicks will progressively decrease until being worth 1 point only.

Alright cool, thanks everyone.

Also forgot to mention the
animal transformation
seems to have messed up my evading pattern I would usually evade early to get away from the enemies attack then evade to get Witch Time now I end up transforming more often then gettting Witch Time, I guess I'm going to have to readjust.

It's possible to turn off Panther within in the pause menu. Alternatively you can just not spam dodge.

But it became part of my style, my STYLE.

Eh w/e I'll adjust to it since I happen to like moving from point A to point B as fast as possible.

I'd advise you just try to adapt yourself to it. The agility and speed of the panther form can be a life saver.

Panther Within is useful in battle. More useful than spamming dodge. :p

Yeah, the panther is essential if you are impatient about the parts between fights. Definitely a good idea to keep it active and relearn your dodging style.

It's just I had really gotten the timing down with my two dodge strategy. Oh well.

Another question, what are Rodin's treasures? I had bought two of them I'm assuming they're costumes am I correct?

Yes, if it was the perfumes you can equip them in the item menu. The costumes will show up when you equip the right alt weapon.

You don't need to use lock on very much, you know. The game's targeting is pretty tight.
Roto13 said:
I don't know why the lock on button even exists, it's so useless. You should probably download the patch and install it if you can. The load times will get on your nerves after a while. Especially if you decide to go through it again a second time right away, which you might because it's that kind of game!
Jintor said:
Lock-on is there so that you can... Umbran Crow Spear or whatever to the next target by double-tapping it.
Net_Wrecker said:
The only thing you need lock-on for is the specific maneuvers that require the lock on button. 95% of the time, just let the game auto target for you, it's really good.

Using lock-on would make me feel much more comfortable and much more in control of not just the baddie I'm fighting but all the rest in the area. Whatever I guess it doesn't matter at this point anyway ~_~;

hey_it's_that_dog said:
The load times are wasting your life several seconds at a time. You could avoid them with a simple procedure that you can set in motion while doing something else. I cannot see why you wouldn't patch it and install.

Several seconds as opposed to the 30+ minutes it would take for me to download and install the patch which is roughly the same size as PS3 firmware updates (yay slow 'net connection!)? And another 20+ minutes for the game installation? Sorry but I'll take seconds over an hour! What's really wasting time is these cutscenes. Up until today I was only considering skipping 'em which is weird enough since I never skip scenes in games (unless one just played and I died and they try to play it again). So ya I'm on chapter 6 now and will indeed be skipping them from now on.

I actually couldn't use lock-on during most of Bayonetta, since the button tied to it was broken. Sucked when you needed it to use certain moves.

I never used the lock on. I felt restricted with it.

@ Lindsay, why don't you just set the install whenever you're not planning of playing. Like you're going to eat or something else.

Just started playing and got to my first Angel Attack, quite fun and much more challenging than everything else up to that point. Took me an hour to beat it, was pretty unlucky, and I'm not exceptional at these games, but not awful either. It was a tossup between not being instant kill by some attack off screen, running out of time on the final angel, or getting killed on the final angel. I'm sure once you get the attack system down and more stuff unlocked you never spend more than 10 minutes on an Angel Attack, but I enjoy a challenge, so it was quite fun. The lock on did help me find enemies a little quicker, I did better when I started using it.

Naw, you're doing it wrong, you get back the 30-60 minutes for the patch because you can do it over something else you'd be doing anyway (dinner, chores, reading, etc). The real cost is just the time it takes to initiate the download.

You can never get back the seconds you spend waiting at the loading screens, because they're too short to get anything done. If they're common enough that they're adding up to hours, that'd be a pain. Hell, it'd be a pain for me if they even added up to minutes and I knew I could get rid of them.

So where did he get that Britain fetish anyway?

The Union Jack flag is often associated with Punk Rock music. Given the way he's dressed, he was probably really into it.

DmC's Dante is also taking cues from punk rock as well.

That would require foresight which I dun got lol. It really doesn't matter since I don't see myself ever touching this game again. Just trying ta blast through it on very easy and beat it for posterity... or something. The blasting part isn't going so well however since my last post was 20 minutes ago meaning I just spent 20 minutes figuring out how to get past a gate and then a spike trap room. Arggh.

Edit: WTF an escort mission seriously? And more running towards the screen crap? Fuck this game seriously ~_~;

You can do all the downloading and installing while you do something else. You can't do something else while you're waiting for the game to load. Skipping the cutscenes will also go faster if you install. If you're only going to play the game once, fine, do whatever you want, but if you plan to replay it several times as it is intended to be played, do yourself a favor and patch the game. Nothing is more annoying to me than a fast paced game interrupted by broken load times. You must be much more patient than I am.

I'm mostly asking because apparently Dante was supposed to have a British accent in DMC1, and Bayonetta actually has one.

So why don't you just shut up and stop playing it?

Very easy automatic is made essentially for people who have never played a video game in their life. If you're having difficulty with that, you may want to find a new hobby that doesn't cause you to end up whining on a message board.

Lol don't be like that.

If he wants to endure a game he hates out of some form of obligation, he has just as much right to post about it as someone who blindly loves it.

I just really don't get the complaints. The escort mission isn't so much escorting as it is fighting around the person, and the acts where you do have protect her are so braindead easy I can't imagine anyone having problems long enough to complain.

Oh okay. So it's better to torture yourself, making yourself do something you don't want to do out of some imaginary obligation that no one has given him AND to come complain about it on the Internet instead of just putting the game down and finding something else to do.

Because he has the right to do it?

You also have the right to drink your own piss. But should you? Think about it.

Especially since Cereza has, like, the greatest defenses ever and whatever little health she does lose regenerates over time.

I'm not saying it's a good idea, I'm just saying dial it back on the personal attacks.

If he hates the game but ends up having valid complaints, I think that'll lead to more interesting discussion in here than the usual I JUST BOUGHT THE GAME ITS AWESOME BYE bumps

THE INTERNET

I'm getting my ass kicked on the Lost Chapters. And anything but the shotgun/rockets sword/claws combo pisses me off with how little firepower it feels like I'm shooting. NEED MORE AOE

But damn, I sat down for what I swore would be 10 minutes and it easily turned into an hour.

As much as I love this game, I can't imagine ever beating The Lost Chapter. The only reason I go back to try is just to fulfill my Bayonetta urge since the whole thing is nothing but pure combat.

It's the closest the game has to a mook generator.

I would be happiest if Kamiya had included a combat creator thing, like the ability to program constantly respawning enemies on a difficulty setting and you just fight until you drop.

I love Bayonetta's combat system. So, so much.
