Ben Affleck Is The New Batman

Of course, Internet doesn't seem to understand what "acting" means and just believe his persona will be just like the one of a previous, totally unrelated movie.

Guys, it's not like doing a Batman is difficulty. You just have to be serious, broody, and shit.
People understand what acting means, we also understand that Affleck isn't particularly good at it.

I'm not going to judge him until I've seen him in costume. Affleck IS a good actor. Still I'd switch him out anytime. But I'll reserve my judgment for later.

you could make that same case for Keaton before he was Batman and he pulled it off with flying colors.

No way. Keaton had a level of intensity and depth that Affleck does not have. He could play insane characters, weird creations like Beetlejuice - he had something about him. He gave off a lot more than just a regular guy vibe.

It`s difficult to say who`s fault is for MOS problems. Zack, Goyer or Warner Bros? Movie looks like result of too many people with different opinions being involved.

300, Watchmen and Dawn of The Dead are good movies. They are far from being sucky. MOS is quite a mess but it is also a good blockbuster movie. It is not Batman Begins or TDK, but it comes very close to TDKR. In MOS he showed again great sense for visuals and action scenes. And on top of that, he managed to pull a good performance out of Henry Cavill which is great achievement in my opinion.

It's a combination of a shitty script, the terrible flashback storytelling technique, and a terrible lead for Superman. Biggest disappointment this year :(

He was OK in Argo. He is not Bale that`s for sure. I have felling he will be good until the point he has to play billionare Bruce Wayne in public. Don`t know really, i guess the big question is... can he play a badass?? Because Batman is.

I'm actually ok with this, a little surprised but ok. The guy has really grown as an actor in the span of a decade. Ask me 10 years ago and I would think it's a crazy idea but now I believe he'll actually do a decent Batman, the voice cannot possibly be worse than Bale. And he defiinitely has the chin for it.

I don't give a shit how many pull-ups he did for The Town, Affleck's the opposite of badass.

I just want to remind everyone of the reaction to the news of heath ledger playing the joker.

It was about the same as this

The choice is actually growing on me. As divisive as the internet is over this, I think the star power will draw quite an audience.

I think the hate is unwarranted. So he made a couple of shit movies but he was good in a couple of movies too. His good movies outweigh the shit ones imo.

They could have gone the easy route and picked the Rock. Dude turned into big
$$$ lately and is the hottest action actor in town. Ben doesn't really have that. So i am surprised they didn't go for someone who could draw. Maybe they're taking it seriously?

Who knows i'm 50/50 till i see a costume and trailer.

yup. thread is interesting to revisit: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110889

dat snap judgment

Heath Ledger was an Australian actor who had landed a role completely out of the range he had shown us so far. He surprised everyone.

We've seen Ben Affleck play a superhero already. It was awful. We've seen him play a non superhero already. It was awful.

It was also a Nolan film, not a fucking Snyder film ha ha ha ha ha ha

I agree in principle, although Ledger was absolutely stonking in Candy.

Heard the news on the radio, thought they said Ben Stiller. Thought what the hell, loled and then thought of Heath as Joker and how that worked. But Ben Afflect is a much better choice.

Affleck has a lot of acting chops he's not given credit for.

That said, I've never seen a role of where I'm not aware that I'm watching Ben Affleck, which is really crucial for playing a character like Batman. The actor has to disappear behind the mask.

Reserving judgement.for now.

I don't have a problem with the look at all, he could definitely pull off a grizzled damaged man. But at some point he's going to open his mouth and it's going to be Ben fucking Affleck...just no.

Wasn't the same thing said about Ledger as the Joker?
The difference is Ledger is a decent actor. People just didn't think he would fit as the Joker. Not to mention that prior to DK his most well known role was a gay cowboy, which people already had flipped shit over without ever seeing.

Affleck isn't a good actor at anything that he isn't writing or directing, and even out of those he's not the best parts of those movies. Every one that's saying he's a great actor now and that Daredevil was a decade ago should go watch State of Play, Extract or Company Men. He still does mediocre work all the time.

I don't think the Ledger comparisons are really fair here.

For one thing, Ledger's Joker is a kind of lightning-in-a-bottle performance. You're rarely going to have an actor, especially in a genre film like this, knock it out of the park like he did.

Secondly, Affleck has a much bigger, more well-known persona than Ledger did. Whether by virtue of acting talent or just not being as big a public name, Ledger disappears into roles. Whereas Affleck, whether good or bad, is always very obviously Ben Affleck. The same way George Clooney in a movie is always George Clooney in a movie. Affleck is a solid actor who has turned his career around in a big way, and he's more than capable of great performances. But he'll always be Ben Affleck in a costume. You're not going to forget he's there the same way people forget Ledger is there in TDK.

I like Ben Affleck. But he's too Ben Affleck to be Batman. There's too much Ben Affleck stigma. He's going to get his Ben Affleck cooties all over that Batsuit.

This just went into Schumacher territory. Again.
