Bend Studio hiring for someone with multiplayer experience...

Give Bend credit. They know how to survive.

While Sony will shut down other studios, Bend's last game was DG in 2019. And by the looks of it, whatever they are working on now wont come out for years. It might be a decade gap by the time their next game comes out.

The fact that it has multiplayer doesn't automatically make it a GAAS. I mean, it probably will be, but they could also just be making some kind of deathmatch mode or co-op mode for a hypothetical Days Gone 2.

The truth is Bend is not the same studio that developed Days Gone. If I were Sony I would just use them as a support studio at this point. Putting a relatively small studio on a gaas game is just a death sentence the vast majority of the time

I mean...at least Days Gone was a hit.

Look at Media Molecule. Dreams released in 2020 and flopped...their previous release was Tearaway for the Vita in 2013 (flopped because the console also flopped) and before than was LittleBigPlanet 2 in 2011. We're in 2025 and their last hit happened in 2011 and they are still opened.

I know when they eventually close people will trash Sony but an opened studio in 2025 whose last hit game was in 20111 is kind of...something.

Why Bend? Why?!
A plausible explanation...

- Indie hits like Peak and REPO suggest there's still a blue ocean in the market.
- Kids get one year older every year and they keep preferring multiplayer. New gamers seem to as well.
- Older gamers are not a lucrative demographic, especially as they age out.
- Soft titles like Tarkov, Rust, and DayZ continue to grow.
- Bend has experience making open world, gun based, Live Service games. That expertise has value today.

TLDR: The bean counters and the creatives both know there's gold in these mountains.

Aside from a few legacy titles like COD, is anyone even doing games with single-player campaigns, and a separate multiplayer mode anymore? If they're hiring for multi-player, it's hard not to see how that means they're working on a multiplayer focused title.

Yotei is gonna have Legends after launch AFAIK, same as Tsushima

If that is indeed the case, they'd be better off just shutting them down and calling it a day than wasting yet another couple hundred million on something with an 80% chance of being cancelled, and if by a miracle it actually releases as 1% chance of actually being a successful Gaas.

Plus, Bend has made i think only 3 games in it's entire 30-year history which have no multiplayer component. (Days Gone, Uncharted GA for Vita, and Syphon Filter 1... even Bubsy 3D had some two-player thing apparently) .

So, it's kind of weird that people are taken aback by this news.

When will these publishers learn. You will never make Fortnite money.

Make a single player game and then have a MP offering within that game. Just like it used to be before Fortnite poisoned the well.

Days gone 2 with traditional multiplayer mode is okay as long there will be the main single player mode and it is not a live service or gaas.
