Berserk 2016 Anime |OT| Prelude to the CGI Boat

Could you elaborate on what, exactly, you liked about the episode? Could you describe it?

Genuinely curious. Not trying to be snarky here.

I liked where they chose to start the series, as it picks up from where "Egg of the King: The Advent" left off. I love that they aren't skimping on the violence, and judging from this episode, it captures the atmosphere present in the manga and other animated iterations.

Seriously, this looks like Valkyria chronicles on PC. Some assets look even worse. And that wooden animation is below videogame quality. Holy hell. The only redeemning factor is trying to capture the horror feel but the execution is just baaaad.

Plus yeah, whitewashing Casca, wth.

How do I legally watch this in Australia, it doesn't appear to be on Anime Lab OR Crunchy Roll here, who has the rights?

It's like they're using the Berserk fan base as a sacrifice.
How delightful. I feel it all over again. Love, hate, ultimate pleasure, ultimate pain, life, death, all here to enjoy, right before our very eyes! The true nature of man and the Devil is here and now...

I'm watching the original anime and colette seems to be the girl Guts rescued from the mercs, meanwhile the new trash pile has her die...twice.

I think the pub scene was the most egregious part of the first episode. I don't even know where to start with it. People criticised the 90's anime for replacing Puck with some random girl but Jesus H. Christ, who ever thought it could be done this badly? Guts cleaving that merc in half is one of the most iconic two-page spreads from the manga and instead we get Robo-Guts awkwardly waddling up to the dudes and punching them.

TFW when you just watched the new Berserk anime

PS2 era graphics are really not all that impressive when you look at them in 2016.
It's legitimately hard to tell what's going on sometimes with these weird, floaty yet stiff animations.

I like how they budgeted just enough to warrant drawing Guts eating a bite of meat and Puck's face. Each like a fraction of a second worth of actual animation instead of shit CG.

I just finished watching the original anime. Should I even bother with this, or continue with the manga instead?

Continue with the manga. We'll take the bullet for you and tell you it how it turns out in 24 weeks.

I can deal with it personally, but there's no way I think it's awesome nor can I recommend it yet.

Uggh, I just watched this. The CGI is fucking awful.

I kinda want to just go back and watch the 90's series again instead.

I watched the 90´s anime and its my favourite anime of all time, thenn i watched the movies and i was sad , the third movie was not that bad.

I just finished the first episode of this new series and i cant believe what i saw, when people complained i was thinking, " fuck , they did like the movies ... its cgi again, but cant it be THAT bad ? "

This anime makes the movies look like a Leonardo Da Vinci painting, after the first 15 seconds and i saw how they draw Guts i was already crying, then the music kicks in and the sandwish i eat 20 minutes earlier was was trying to come out. Sometime its like you are watching 2 diferent things, look K.Sabot post and see what i am talking about.

- Music is fucking atrocious ( soundtracks from original anime are the best i ever listen to any medium, this is like a dagger to my hearth )

- Sound is fucking retarded, wtf is the sound of the Guts sword ? W T F

- Artstyle is the worst i ever saw in one anime, THE FUCKING WORST , why it had to hapen to berserk from all things, WHY?
You have to be fucking mentaly disabled to do shadows the way they did in this. Its a mess, a misture of horrrible ps1 level CGI and shit drawings. The studio that made this shit should be bankrupt to never do anime again.

Why is the only thing in my mind... WHY ? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

From Kotaku review :

" Berserk is not for the faint-hearted. But “The Branded Swordsman” proved to me that directors of fighting-heavy anime are making more of an effort to beautify and civilize the genre, doing justice to manga that showcases writing and ingenuity. "

Yeah this is what is jarring about this type of animation. Either make it fully 3d or make it drawn animation.

Thing is, even if this was a very well made CG it will still suck for me

CG just doesn't look good at all for anime for the most part and this is one of them

Such a popular and known manga gets this shit treatment... You know what? Not better than nothing. If you're not going to even try then don't bother. At least before I had hope that this would get the adaptation it deserves but now I know that it will have been adapted and won't be adapted the second time, properly.

It's really sad isn't it? the creator doesn't seem to have the desire to finish the best manga of all time, movies were ok at best, and now this cheap crap.

What is that even supposed to mean? Is this new Berserk supposed to be "Guts and Friends: Superstar Adventures in Dreamland" or what are they trying to say? I haven't seen it yet so it might make sense to others.

the anime and manga are different, their overall story is similar but there are MAJOR differences in certain events. The anime is it's own thing and the manga is another. You would have no idea WTF if you would just pick up volume 14 and read from there.

The opening song could be a better fit, but the song itself is pretty great. I looked it up and the minute and a half track seems to be it which is a little disappointing - the full version of Attack on Titan's second opening for example turns a hype tune into a solid piece of music. The second verse and the interlude which calls back the first theme made it something I could listen to whenever.

edit: Link to the song on the band's channel.

Actually now that I look at AoT's second opening, what we got here is only more disappointing.

I have yet to read that review, sounds like his/her shilling is in beast mode.

So I just finished watching the original 90's adaption of Beserk; the Golden Age Arc I guess people refer to it, Holy crap was blown away but it ended on such a cliff hanger. Where do I go to find out the rest of the story?

Remember that Kotaku was also worried that Kill la Kill might promote self cutting.

I think their opinions on anime can be confidently ignored.

You read the manga...from the very beginning because the anime cut some very important things out. You want to know why Guts has touch issues? Go read the manga. You want to know what really happened before the Eclipse? Go read the manga.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

You can watch this anime but I'd recommend against that at the moment. I'd say try picking up the manga. Dark Horse seems to be doing a new reprint with new covers, some added art pieces, and so on. Buy one a month and you'll need over 3 years to get to where the manga is currently, plus whatever is released in that time. I'd also say start from the beginning as the anime cuts out several prominent characters who don't appear much in the golden age like the Skull Knight and Silat and of course Wyald.

I've never read the manga or seen the old anime of Berserk so when I saw this on Crunchyroll I thought it'd be perfect to jump in. I watched it, thought it was ok but I'm still not feelin the 3d anime. It looks weird in that Netflix show and it looks weird here. Now I'm finding out that episode 1 just drops you off in the middle of an ark? This isn't at the beginning? I guess I dont have to watch this after all.

Well this was a fun driveby.

Go watch the earlier shit then? This is a sequel series to the original arc which has been done repeatedly.

Nope, don't torture yourself watching this, read the manga, though that's sort of it's own form of torture.
I read the Kotaku review...

I just skimmed through the first episode, besides the animation quality whats with the horrific levels of zoom in this episode.

I know they're trying to keep it low budget and not do any background work, but wow this takes the cake for cutting corners. I hope other animation studios learn from this and never attempt this again.

Someone should ask miura how does it feel watching his own daughter doing porn lol.
This isn't even how brow porn where they're working out in a gym or they're teacher and student doing it in a class or they're ballerinas...this is just scat porn or just watching two women vomiting on each other.
