They have to stop playing BLOOD AND GUTS AND GUTS AND BLOOD song. It's pig trash.
Blood and Guts song is dope but the remix they are using in this show is garbage.

This episode was better than the first one. Paced properly, decently written, stuck to the manga... sound design not as bad. Similar issues still persist like the god awful animation/art style which results in a lack of atmosphere and the bad song remixes.

Still don't get all the hate for this. I thought the first episode was decent at best but the second was like 10x better. I think they're doing a good job of translating from the manga, since I recently read this arc and a lot of the anime looks identical to it. I think the music fits really well(especially towards the end) and the fight scenes were cool looking(nice to see some gore). Also loving how they didn't shy away from potato-head Puck, he looks and acts exactly how he does in the manga.

The only real problem I have is the Casca white-wash, but it doesn't really bother me as much as it does others. That, and the flashbacks of what we've already seen in the movies. Also, we need nipples. C'mon, Lupin the 3rd had an anime that showed nips but Berserk can't? They even had them in the movies.

Because it's the worst looking anime I have ever seen.

I say I because there might be worse looking ones but I personally not not come across one that looks as horrible as Berserk does. It's laughable that they actually thought this was good enough to air on TV.

I personally don't think it's that different from the likes of Ajin or Knights of Sidonia. I think at times, those looked worse, but that's just me. Seems like the thing that's pissing most people off is the hybrid 2D/3D, and some of the shitty textures as shown on the screenshot a couple of posts back, and I can understand that.

Awesome that you ended up reading it at least!

The manga is fantastic. I'm just watching this now because I love to see a manga brought to life regardless of how good or bad it is.

I'll have to watch the original anime once I catch up the the latest chapter. Not sure where either of the animes are supposed to finish so I don't want to spoil anything.

So why does Tales of Zesteria get ufotable and their unlimited budget works? But Berserk gets this? Does the publisher just not care? Does Bandai Namco pull in more external partners and funding?

Haven't watched Episode 2 yet, but I did enjoy Episode 1

Yeah same here.

The backgrounds are LITERALLY copy pasted from a Dynasty Warrior game. Look at those ground textures... I mean seriously LOOK at that!

It's no exaggeration that current generation video games look better than that.

I think it looks just slightly, very slightly better than the post time-skip One Piece anime. That shit is unwatchable for me.

I legit would not watch ANY other anime that looked like that. Only reason I am even doing so is because it's god damn Berserk.

Like when Gutts told off Farnese like that... those feels man. Just for that sliver of Berserk goodness, I will bear through these visuals.

Found this on my facebook feed. Ugh.

Ma.. maybe if we contiue to watch this POS... season 2 will get a better budget... or change studios.

yeah, no matter the critic I have to answer back with "it's Berserk doe"

We will have to agree to disagree, a big part of that whole sequence was to show off the fact Guts could take on an apostle one on one even before he became a monster killing berserker not too mention what it does to Griffith.

Yeah, ever since his encounter with Zodd, Guts has been comparing his hardest challenges to that fear he felt.
After a year of training it was his chance to see if he had gotten strong enough to take on a "monster" like Zodd.
The arc was crude, but it allowed us to see just how much stronger Guts had gotten.

With the arc, we can buy [a little bit better] that Guts could survive the Eclipse.
We have a better grasp at where he is strength wise since he managed to survive against a pretty powerful apostle.

You can't be serious with this statement. It looks NOTHING like the manga at all. It's like comparing a museum painting to children crayon. A lot of missing details and animation. I even think Ajin actually looks better than this. The only redeeming quality of this anime imo is voice acting.

I think that sums up a lot of feelings here. I just hope it doesn't push too many people away from the series.

Just wait for Miura to go Berserk on this shit :p

Just finished Episode 2, it was good and I enjoyed it.

Let's balance some of the negativity here. Props to the Director for managing 3D space and utilizing it well.

Some of the 2D scenes are fantastic! Where Griffith shows off the Behelit, I swear it looks so much like the manga. I'm glad they're trying to maximize their budget over 24 episodes, using it for detailed shots.

Music, Sagisu doing some great songs. And hearing Hirasawa's work is nice as well.

CG is still REALLY stiff at points, but there's also moments where it blends well.

Overall, I can't say that I don't look forward to seeing more adapted and it's trending at about 7/10 for me. Just really wish the whole show was just animated like those 2D scenes.

You guys who keep talking about there being no good berserk adaptation should probably go back and watch some of '97
We have a good Berserk adaptation of the Golden Age arc but nothing beyond that. That's the problem. Berserk is more than just the Golden Age arc (despite being the best one).

And even then the 97 anime could be improved upon.

One Piece shits all over this. At least that gets good animation every once in a while.

To be fair I have not watched it in a very long time, but I have some very bad memories of scenes in Fishman island and Punk Hazard that were horribly botched (Especially Zoro and Monet)

Ajin and KoS look way better than this. Better shading and animations.

That said, I like the show. I only know Berserk for the old anime and the OVAs (I don't read manga) but it looks just like the right dose of grim and violence that modern anime needs.

EDIT: next Berserk season should be made with puppets..

What's a good gritty ass anime with tons of violence and fucked up shit like in the Berserk manga?

Hellsing Ultimate. Though it's no where near Berserk in terms of story, world building and characters. If you want tons of violence and some messed up stuff with some cool injected into it then... yeah Hellsing Ultimate will deliver on it.

Though I would look at stuff even older than that for that particular fix.

When I was trying to think of one, that's the first that came to mind since I had already seen it and I know there's others but they're mostly animes from the 90s. I couldn't think of a single one that's new-ish but then again I don't watch a whole ton of anime.

Jojo, an adaptation of a campy Shonen manga, has way more grotesque ultra violence then what was shown. Hell One-punch Man has Saitama exploding monsters into fountains of blood and intestines.

There was a samurai anime recently that was ultra violent and kinda realistic but I forgot its name.

Oh yeah Shigurui. I guess that's not recent but still.

If you are willing to go back to some old school stuff then stuff like MD Geist and Genocyber is some messed up stuff.

Shigurui is disgusting, but not fun at all iirc

I don't remember enjoying it one bit.

When you put it that way, makes me think they are diluting the violence to save themselves the effort or time. However, they were kinda showing off those skeletons getting chopped to piece in the first episode without hesitation so maybe it's not true, and they just lessen the gore against human enemies.

Berserk 2016 Episode 02

Actually enjoyed this episode quite a bit, while I agree with just about everything everyone else has already said about this adaptation, I'm still enjoying watching it purely from the perspective of getting to see new Berserk material come to life. I only started reading the manga about 3 weeks ago but I'm already up to the middle of Volume 20 -- so I've become a huge fan of the world in quite a short period time. I would've loved to see them adapt the Lost Children Arc, but I'm actually interested in seeing where the plot for this 12 episode (confirmed I guess?) adaptation of Berserk - in addition to mixing things/skipping around they're also moving pretty fast.

So anyone who's just seen the anime, I was wondering if any of you thought of the story? Do you understand what's going on? Is it moving too fast? Are you getting anything out of these new characters?

Probably too early to ask, but it would be interesting to know. My knowledge is of course clouded by reading the manga, so bad choices of adaptation sometimes aren't too clear to me. I already know everything.

i dont understand, first episode condenses a lot of chapters, but episode two is way slower and covers less chapters? Unless im missing something, just feels really weird.

Those aren't good though.

The old anime, and the manga (what was out then), was something I enjoyed a lot back then. Getting my hopes up from this thread title, and then seeing the utter garbage choice of 3d they ended up going with just makes me not want to watch this :/

You all that can get past the graphics, is it worth watching?

The second episode was garbage, just like the first. What a surprise.

I seriously can't get over just how ugly this is. I mean, what the hell?!

Have you read the manga? The first episode was basically a really fast way to get to the beginning of the arc they wanted to adapt. Now that they're there, they are doing a straight adaptation.

Was a pretty bad idea imo, but I kind of get it.
