You guys remember that program that randomly generated terrains back in, like, 2008? That's how all the terrain in the anime look like.

It's so sad. The kind of damage the metal hand causes has really been lost.

So I've just finished watching episode 2 :

If episode one was a 1/10, then this one is a 2/10.
Man this project is a mess :

Narration is on par with the worst shows that ever came out, framing is still abysmal, there's absolutely no composition in the stills, it feels like it's cut by someone who started editing school two weeks ago, there's no sense of space, the original soundtrack is one of the worst thing I've listened to this past decade in any medium, especially for the action parts.

(kill me)

The music makes me think that one of these days "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" is going to show up.

After disappointed by 2nd episode, I was depressingly browsing for something to cope my depression then I found something called Onara Gorou. It saves my day. Y'all should give it a try.

Found episode 2 to be pretty watchable. Think I'll keep watching this shit, it's interesting seeing this adapted in any capacity.

My brother doesn't seem to really mind the animation much, wish I felt the same way haha. He's never read the manga, and has no interest in doing so. He saw and liked the movies though, as I did.

I feel like I'm the only one thoroughly enjoying this series 0_o. This is coming from someone who absolutely loves Berserk. Only thing I don't like is the Casca change.

So CrunchyRoll plays new anime for free with ads a week after release? Do you need any type of paid account for this?

I think having no source material to compare it to is making it more enjoyable for me. The CG is still ass, but I'm liking the story and episode 2 was good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After sleeping on it I realized that the second episode isn't better, it just uses a better version of the writing.

If we replaced the visuals with stills from the manga and left the audio running as is the quality of the adaptation would immediately improve.

This is not okay.

Hey, if you want something to cope with your depression, try Thunderbolt Fantasy. It's ridiculously awesome cheese.

I guess everyone who wasn't familiar with the series is loving this, which is normal I guess. But what's up with that forced and plastic praise from the likes of Kotaku, IGN and so on?..Geez.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Most likely casual fans or people just aware of it through nerd cultural osmosis.

I thought the second episode was much better than the first though I don't think I will ever really come to accept the art.

I think the only scene that was really successful was Farnese's lashing scene.

Episode was marginally better than the first but that's not saying much.

I'm not the biggest fan of the animation style either and there are many improvements that should be made. Also I wish they hadn't skipped a lot of things but oh well. I've seen the original anime, the movies, both 2016 episodes, and read the manga and I'm pretty happy with this so far. I wish it looked and sounded better but I'm not the one animating or voice acting this so I'll have to live with it.

In any case I liked ep. 2, the quality has gone up already so I'm interested to see more and I think the weird animation will make some of the crazier monsters look awesome. Plus, even after ep. 1 the /r/berserk sub numbers went up, so if this brings more viewers/readers, I can stomach the not so great parts of the new anime.

Glaringly hideous CG aside, this was a considerable improvement over the premiere. The scene with Guts and Griffith, while hardly new, was gorgeous. The pacing seemed better and we got some more of that Hirasawa track.

I was actually kind of disappointed when it ended.

Watched ep. 2. Muuuuuch better, but the 2d is still choppy and the cg horrendous.

At least the music wasn't awful, and they're following the manga exactly now.

But even its best moments were mediocre overall. Unless another studio takes over at the halfway point this show is probably a wash.

Ep 2 a bit better but man...I hate, HATE, that they're forcing themselves to choose between when to be able to show facial expressions and when to just pantomime scenes. What kind of a ridiculous trade off is that for such a character driven action show? That's another way this is reminiscent of a video game in that they often have one set of high quality models for some key scenes and crappy models that can't hardly mouth words for the rest.

Skipping the Lost Children arc reminds me of a problem GoT got itself into. There was so much raw material to draw from at the start, HBO blazed through the beginning seasons but now a few years later we're stuck with some terrible episodes that reek of generic TV writing. Yes Berserk has a lot of chapters to draw from but the manga is seminal. How many entire shows premiere every season that only wish they had half the brilliance of any random Berserk arc; such as Lost Children. Who cares if you can't get the end of the Conviction arc? Just do a proper adaptation of the Black Swordsman arc and Lost children and call it a day. Try for another adaptation in another 5-10 years. I do not understand the need to rush through such important, long running works like this.

The second episode was actually a lot better. Still not good, but it's an improvement. At least the pacing wasn't terrible and there was a few more hard drawn scenes.

As a huge fan of the 1997 anime and who has been waiting nearly 20 years for more Berserk episodes, here are some of my thoughts on these new episodes:

-Animation/CG is really cheap looking. I miss the old style. It gets the job done but it's a shame that they didn't stick with the older art style.

-Absolutely hate the music. It just doesn't fit the anime at all. Could totally do without.

-Already you can tell major story arcs have been surgically removed from the story and that really sucks. Wish they could have done everything in order just like the manga. That being said, I can understand that certain things may be to dark for the animated series and they may not have been allowed to show certain things.

-Overall I do still like what has been shown and will keep watching.

Anyone know how many episodes this is getting? I've heard 25, I've heard 24 and I've heard 12. So I'm confused on this. Anyone know or has it not been announced just how many episodes there is going to be?

I didn't think that the second episode was nearly as bad as the first, but it isn't difficult to be better than a burning pile of garbage. Animation is still horrid, and many iconic "Guts" moments feel flaccid in this studio's. . . art style. The bits we get in 2D feel like a slap in the face because of the quality difference (Flashback sequence of Guts with Band of the Hawk).
Also, if anyone is interested (and I apologize if it was posted already), a lovely youtuber is putting together an edit of the original '97 anime. First part is out and is 3 hours long You can find that here.

She seems like a fairweather fan of Berserk if she even knew much about the property at all before this. It just screams of someone who has gotten most of the Berserk knowledge through others and is just regurgitating a lot of tired crap that came form half assed fans in the first place. I'm surprised she didn't bitch about Miura playing IdolMaster or how they haven't gotten off the boat yet.

This made me laugh so hard.

I haven't watched this yet out of pure disappointment and fear. So I'm asking, is Mozgus in this?

Eh.. huge Berserk fan, but after all these impressions I don't really feel like watching this. Maybe I'll give it a try if the episodes improve considerably down the road.
