I for one couldn't afford this, even if I wanted it, but for those with the cash, perhaps.

77" is $18,000 :O

Some days I really wish I had a bunch of money to just throw down on stuff like this.

Edit: I've never really looked at these kind of TVs before but is that weird stand just a Sony thing? Looks ridiculous to be honest.

You could buy a 55" Samsung KS8000 and a Pro.

You'd be getting a better TV and you'd be saving over 1500 bucks.

Probably getting the 55" at the next price drop, been eyeing this set for a while.

Are these the new TVs they showed at CES this year where the audio comes directly from the screen?

Yup. This is the TV that has that feature.

Better than the A1E OLED? Hell no. This TV is up there with the LG and Panasonic OLEDs and the Z9D.

If you just mean better than the TV many probably already have then yeah sure...

Most days it's 20000 lol

I'm waiting for next year for these to drop price a bit

I don't know if I'm ever going to buy an expensive TV ever again.

5 years ago, I bought the Panasonic VT30, a top of the line 1080p TV that was over $3,000. I shelled out the money for this TV because I thought it would last me a good decade or longer and wound meet all my needs. Then I got the PS4 Pro.

Then 4K came around, and it's sickening knowing that even low-mid range 4K TVs are better than my high end 1080p. When I see prices for those TVs on sale at $700 or less, I just cringe.

I'm in the market this year to get a 4K TV, but I think my days of buying the very best TV are over.

TV tech drops in price so quickly these days that anyone spending over $2,000 on a television has to be fairly nuts.

Your VT30 is still far better than most "low-mid range" 4K TVs in everything but resolution / HDR (although those sets likely don't have great HDR either.) Plasma's better motion resolution, black levels, etc. is the reason I'm sticking with mine until OLEDs get reasonable, or there's a great FALD LCD option.

That's cheap as hell!

Here in Sweden the 55" is about $4,930 and the 65" is $7,390.

TVs are so fucking expensive here.

How do these compare to the LG OLEDs?

Identical panel [made by LG], a bit different approach to image processing, better upscaling, different OS, better sound.

It's more expensive than some LG OLED models, but it's a fantastic TV.\

The point of this TV is that it uses OLED panel. Midrange KS8000 [that still does not have preset that saves settings in HDR mode] should not be compared with it.

If someone do not want OLED but still want great TV, they should avoid Samsung and get X900E/X930E [or even X940E if they want gigantic panel].

I was looking at the Sony 850XE. You still think my VT30 is better?

I think $1k-$2k is pretty much the sweet spot for a "nice" television that will last a long time. I paid about $1800 for a 50" Sony SXRD set about 9 years ago that still looks amazing to this day even though it is only a 1080p set.

The VT30 is still miles better than a low-mid range 4K LCD Set. Just wait for the OLED to get a little cheaper.

Better deal is getting a TV from dell when they give out their gift cards and you can pick up a PS4 with those

Seriously, what the heck? Please don't let this catch on. Ever.

.

Wow, I bought a new VT30 for 700 euros in 2010. Bet yours is much bigger

Great TV though, it still works flawlessly.

PSpro doesnt even play 4K blurays.

It's honestly not that important tho (it would be nice if they had one tho)
most 4k hdr tv apps are starting to offer UHD streaming options
such as netflix, amazon,Vudu, and some of the youtube 4k videos are easily playble on pro or your 4k hdr tv.

Yeah.

One other noteworthy image processing thing. If color gradient handling on certain sources is someone's particular pet peeve on picture, the A1E has better smooth color gradients due to Sony's proprietary processing.

They're pretty much even for the most part with each having a few advantages.

Seriously, what the heck? Please don't let this catch on. Ever.

It probably won't but from what I saw and a lot of impressions you actually don't notice the slant at all in actual viewing. Just go to a Best Buy and you can see for yourself if it bothers you too in both a light and dark room if yours has one of those Magnolia rooms.

Or you can still mount it flat normally on a stand or wall.

If you have a dark TV stand the lack of a visible stand actually looks pretty neat in practice just seeing the TV image.

LG OLEDs are brighter, different tone mapping for HDR, better OS, lower input lag, and have 4 HDMI2.0a ports vs Sony's 2.

Sony OLEDs have the same panel, better upscaling, better sound, and produces a subtly-different image.

There's not a clear winner. LG OLEDs won the big AV shootout in July so there's that.

You could buy LG's C7 OLED, a PS4 Pro, and an Xbox One X for less than the price of one of those TVs.

Yeah, that's why I passed on the A1E myself. When I got my B7, the A1E was $5500 versus the B7's $3950. The price difference bought me an HTPC with an i7 and a 1080Ti. And I got $750 back from Costco when LG's price dropped.

The A1E is an amazing display, but so is the LG B7/C7, and those are so much cheaper besides.

If Sony prices come in line with LG when I get a new TV in 4 to 5 years I'll probably go with the Sony. Just way too pricey right now versus the LG.

That TV stand has always ruled out that TV for me. Just the thought that the display is going to be slanted and leaning backwards is just dumb if you use the stand.

You can buy a tabletop stand with VESA mounting points for the A1E. That's the route I had planned to go when I was considering that set.

Ah, never thought of that. I always assumed the mount points were always used for wall mounts but it makes sense to have a replacement stand. Good to know in the future.

Yeah, unless you notice or favor the differences the price is a good decision maker between them toward the LG since they are pretty even and both look amazing.

I'm not an expert, so I'd probably ask in the television thread to see if anyone has any first-hand experience going from the VT30 to a good LCD. It's also going to be dependent on your setup: for example, I got a plasma because I had good control over my room brightness... but now it's in a room that has giant west-facing windows, and during the day it gets completely washed out. Part of that is due to my set having a poor antiglare filter, but a modern LCD would be able to out-bright the room.

I feel like those of us with late-model plasmas are in a bit of a bind - the new sets have a lot of great improvements, but some basic drawbacks that might be super-annoying. I won't miss worrying about image retention / burn-in, though.

I love the design. I like how it just flushes in with whatever it's resting on.
I also like how the screen doubles as the speaker and the stand the sub woofer.

i wasn't going to spend thousands of dollars on one of these but now that i see how well it would accent my cup full of twigs, black cone, and hoop... how can i resist?

Who wants to watch a TV that is tilted and leaning backwards though? Plus anyone buying a TV of that price should be using a proper sound setup, not the TV and stand as their sound source.

You just don't understand. Those are authentic Australian catwood braches, very expensive.
