Best "one and done" game ever made?

Sacrifice for me. I can't believe this game didn't get ripped off by anyone. It was such a genius concept. If I ever get a billion dollars I will fund a spiritual successor myself or I will buy the IP outright.

Nice one. Bought this for the Range Murata main character designs (and MGS similarity), was really cool. Still love Sheila's design.

I don't think that Demons Souls should count unless we're pretending that Red Dead Redemption is not a sequel to Red Dead Revolver, or that it won't have another entrant in the series with a similar name.

My choices that I don't see in the OP...

  • The Warriors

Not sure if R* ever re-released this. I would have said Bully, but it got a remaster on 360.

I noticed Devil Dice for PS1 in the OP, but it actually had a direct sequel on PS2 called 'Bombastic' (in the US):

I was going to suggest adding EVO: Search for Eden for SNES to the list but it's essentially a remake of the Japan-only PC-98 game "46 Okunen Monogatari: The Shinka Ron". :S

Tough one but I'll give the vote to Mischief Makers. I would've said W101 but I'd like to believe that there'll be a sequel one day!

Planescape: Torment

EDIT - Oh wait, Torment: Tides of Numenera is being made. Forgot about that. Conkers Bad Fur Day? Actually no. For me personally, it would be Body Harvest on the N64

Okay, OP is up to date with complete lists for North American libraries of the NES, Genesis, SNES, PS1, N64, PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox.

Body Harvest is a great shout.

3D Open world was barely a thing in 1998, at least not like it is today.

DMA design went on to become Rockstar North, and you can see early GTA open world influence in Body Harvest.

Scanning down that list, these caught my eye as damn good games that I enjoyed immensely:

Blast Corps
Eternal Darkness
3D Dot Game Heroes

Did Shadow of the Colossus not count for PS2? Surely It's not considered part of Ico on account of the aesthetic and color palette.

Coming in to this thread I was thinking Jet Force Gemini, Uniracers or Stunt Race FX. Good to see they're all eligible. I have to say Uniracers for my personal vote based purely on fun factor.

Wait, was Quest 64 the sequel to something?

Uniracers. Still can't believe Nintendo never made a sequel or remake. I don't even think it's Been available on VC. Quality game. Tony hawk before Tony hawk

It's in my opinion in the top 5 most underrated games of all time. I remember renting it from Blockbuster, then saving allowance for 5 weeks to be able to buy it. The game was so good, and presented a nice challenge on top of that. I must have logged over 300 hours in that game.

I can't decide between Zack & Wiki, Radiant Historia, or Gravity Rush (although the latter seems to be getting a sequel).

Eternal Darkness is a good choice, too.

I definitely don't think that a game that released one time on multiple systems simultaneously (or close to) should be excluded. But I like thei dea of the thread in general. To me that limits a lot of clear 'one and done' type games from more modern eras.

Yes. I remember it really well. Seemed like a simple game on the surface, but quickly got crazy challenging. The game was more about tricks then actual racing. Loved it.

Mr. Bones was one of the best games for Saturn. It was a collection of mostly platformer minigames. Many of which used an FMV background which actually looked really good with the high quality 3d rendering of Mr. Bones. The game looked gorgeous and was a ton of fun.
