Best rain levels....

Here in the NY Metro Area, we are experiencing biblical floods. JFK Airport reports 8 inches of rain, Newark 7" Central Park 8".

I got to thinking about the best rain levels in games.

The first thing that jumped out at me was the level in the first DKC game where it started out raining and ended up sunny.

The rain in Gears of War 1 and 2 was pretty awesome. Obviously, we have Heavy Rain, which had a bunch of rain areas.

I dont recall a rain level in either Uncharted game, but I could be wrong.

What else you have for me Neogaf?

There is a rain level in Uncharted 2, near the end when you enter Shambala, awesome part too!

My avatar says it all, best rain/water game!

Also, here some pics at Games Rader about The evolution of rain

I was very impressed by the rainy areas of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for the Xbox. In some ways that game still holds up well visually against modern titles.

The rain level in Sonic Fan Remix is gorgeous:

The little details like the water boucing of Sonic were awesome. It was also pretty special seeing Emerald Hill Zone in a different way.

Not a level, but I loved it when it rained in the SNES version of Harvest Moon.

Very atmospheric considering the game and hardware.

This. This. This.

Oh yeah, GTAIV does rain really well too. Driving around at night listening to Aphex Twin's Z-Twig was just mind blowingly beautiful.

The funny part is that IIRC it doesn't actually have rain because the engine couldn't support it.

But you know, the atmosphere. you could feel the rain through the music.

Also... um, Banjo-Kazooie, Click Clock Woods.
I'm sure i'm forgetting many games, really. the first Gears of War was nice. MGS 2 too.

The ending of Uncharted 2 was pretty sweet. I mean, not only did it rain, everything looked wet and slippery. So cool.

My absolute favorite rain level is in Gears of War, about 2/3 through the campaign. Holy hell it still looks amazing. I just start that level and spend about ten minutes just looking around.

There are two that instantly come to mind as standing head and shoulders above the rest - Metal Gear Solid 2's tanker level and Gears of War's factory level.

Halo 3: ODST
Mostly due to mood. The actual rain was near non-existent.

I'd say Red Dead Redemption. The weather effects/entire world in general may not be the most impressive graphically, but its still the prettiest game I have ever played.

The AI Director would actually intensify the rain if you were blowing through the level, to make it harder.

For me, nothing comes close to Red Dead Redemption. From light drizzle to intense downpours and thunderstorms that make it difficult to see, the sense of atmosphere is phenomenal. There are even puddles on the ground afterwards, which I don't think I'd ever seen before, or since.
