This, however I would recommend the bagged version.

Mama brand noodles, eating those as long as I can remember (30+ years), mostly the pork or chicken flavor and as far as I can tell they never changed anything in all these years.

My "Go-to" whenever I have a craving for noodles.

Stuff tastes miles better than any of the existing ready-made noodles available here.

It's spicy but not too spicy. I think the non-Black version is too overpowering with its spice.

I can handle spicy food well, it's just that the other version has enough spice to ruin some of the flavor.
I actually prefer the regular version to the Black. I will admit the Black version is "richer" though.
Spicier. Comes with a packet of sesame chili garlic oil that is crazy potent.
Interesting. I'll be on the lookout for it

So I hate to be "that guy" in a Ramen thread, but I can't stand spicy stuff. I love Ramen though. I've had Indo Mie (BBQ Chicken is amazing) but I want to try some other brands.

Any suggestion for a Non-Spicy brand / Flavor of Ramen Noodles?

None of the ramens posted here are actually spicy. It's like ordering "spicy" fast food. Those super painful Buldak Bokkeum ramen from Korea? About 3200 scoville units aka around a Jalapeno pepper. Those Korean fire noodle challenges? Around 10000 Scoville units. Your average El Yucateco Mayan hot sauce bottle is hotter than those ramens, and it's barely spicy.

Don't be afraid of trying out Shin Ramyun. That stuff is basically fit for a baby. McDonalds Fajita sauce is spicier. Shin Ramyun is less spicy than Frank's Red Hot!

Has anyone had these?

I've got a packet. How spicy are they? How is the taste?

I admit I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy food but I'm willing to give it a shot.

i got a bunch of this. i'm not going to argue it's the best. it's good. some flavors are really good and some are not so good. i still like the noodles plain regardless.

that beef & lime number up above sounds great.

If you don't mind going through some effort to find this and don't mind an instant noodle that isn't soupy this is amazing

I recommend the Hell Spicy flavor (地獄辣味) if you need something with a kick. 5 servings is like 5-7 dollars so it's about 1-1.50 per?

I actually had these with miso soup, rice, extra diced scallions, and sriracha sauce.
Best. Soup. Ever.

These are both pretty tasty, not really bad spice wise. However I also didnt think ramens mentioned earlier were all that spicy either, some wimps up in here /s

I love spicy food, and even I find it really spicy.

They're ridiculously tasty though. I normally make it like a soup and put in some veggies to help tone it down.

The only instant ramen I will eat anymore is Ichiran Ramen straight from Japan. Well, technically I buy it from Amazon. At $5 bucks a pack it's a little pricy but me and my girl think that it's worth it.

Yes! My roommate and I tried half each. It was pretty much what I expected in terms of spiciness, just past flavourful and into uncomfortable territory. I like spicy foods, but I think it would have been a bit of a chore to down the whole thing.

I like spicy foods and I like these but the combined spicyness and hotness doesn't make them that enjoyable to me :/

Like others have mentioned, add in various other foods to mask the spicyness. Veggies, eggs, meats, etc.

My usual, lazy thing to add:

A slice of lime, squeezed into the broth/noodles

Usual none lazy ingredients:

Slice of lime, squeezed
Chopped green onions and cilantro
Maybe a egg or two
Beef or leftover cooked meat

Just make use you cook it properly if you want it to be spicy. Make sure you drain the water before putting in the oil pack. If you don't it's rather weak.

These things are good, but I found them to be really spicy. Be prepared. Buddy of mine I gave a pack had to have some milk on hand to survive. It gave me some serious heat and I liked em', but I survived.

I actually like to take a spoonful of pickled ginger and toss that in there. It adds a nice crunch and takes a slight edge off the heat. Not the thin sliced sushi stuff, but the little jars of sliced chunks.

I love Soba noodles, the ones you drain with holes in the lid.Chili and original flavour are my favourite, the Teriyaki one had a too strong hint of cabbage for my liking.

Won't find them in the asian goods store but love these bad boys..

By the way, what are the things you guys you toss into your noodles while they are cooking?

It pretty much depends on your taste.
Here's a sample of the many items you throw in your noodles.

-Steamed Broccoli
-Steamed Carrots
-Steamed Cabbage
-Red Peppers
-Green Onions
-Shiitake Mushrooms
-Bean Sprouts
-Boiled Clams
-Boiled Eggs
-Sautéed Ground Pork
-Cooked Shrimps
-Grilled Chicken
-Miso (powder)
-Corn
-Cilantro
-Lime Juice
-Etc .....

It all just depends on how creative you want to get.

Yea that's the good stuff. The original sesame flavor in red packaging is my favorite.

OP, import some Nissim Demae unless there's some at your Asian market. Most popular brand in Hong Kong. Worlds apart from the Nissin branded cup noodles stateside at Walmarts. The larger Nissin cup noodles overseas tastes way better too with good dried ingredients.

Picked this up yesterday to try it after reading this thread and my god, it is great. I have tried another one of this company's ramens and it was already up there for me. This particular one is delicious and amazingly creamy (they have a separate packet just for this).

By the way, what are the things you guys you toss into your noodles while they are cooking?

Mostly raw eggs or leftover pork or beef(sliced thin). One time I threw in some soft, good quality beef jerky and it gave the soup a nice, smoky flavor and also made the jerky very tender.

I'll add to that...

-Pickled Ginger
-Sauteed Thin Beef
-Pork Belly
-Narutomaki (rolls of steamed 'fish cake' you slice really thin)
-Chives/Green Onion
-Diced and fried SPAM
-Canned Tuna*

It's good just cooked in water, but the best way to make it is to fry it in a really hot pan afterwards like real mi goreng. I use toasted sesame oil and top it with an egg.

They also have lots of other flavors. The rendang flavor is super tasty.
Just got a 30 pack of the hot and spicy from Amazon for $16. Good stuff, huge step up over the ramen I am used to eating.

nice addition.

Let me then continue with

-Cooked Octopus
-Sliced Radish
-Kimchi (preferably cucumber)
-Spinach
-Dried Seaweed
-Sriracha Sauce
-Diced Jalapenos
-Avocado
-Sausage (even Chorizo)
-Chili Flakes (crushed red pepper)
-Peanuts
-American Cheese
-Garlic Powder
-Onion Powder

And that's all I've got for now.

If you're going to a big asian store you should be looking in the freezer / refrigerated aisle, not the noodles aisle. Myojo's noodles are very common, and it's most likely what you'll be served if you go to a store that doesn't specialize in ramen even in Japan. Their Tonkotsu is fairly serviceable, add good toppings and you'll get fairly close to the quality of those ramen shops that are starting to pop up. It'd be a step up from Chuka Zanmai / Raoh for sure, which is about as good as you can get for bagged dry ramen. I've noticed Korean variants in some stores but haven't tried them. Myojo noodles will probably run you $5-6 for a 3-pack.

While you're there, look for frozen sanuki udon noodles. Prices are similar so look for a bag that's actually made in Japan instead of being "Sanuki style." Look for Mentsuyu concentrated noodle soup stock, unless you're some kind of connoisseur the 4x concentrate 500ml/1L varieties that's stupid cheap will work fine. Cook udon, prepare soup stock separately according to instructions, drop an egg on it, chop up some green onions, easy udon. Usually $4~$6 for a pack of 5.

So got my ramen in and the Nongshim black is great, some of the best I have had. I can't say the same for the Penang Prawn Noodle, Its odor was terrible to the point where I couldn't eat it.

A lot of the shrimp/prawn flavors can be a bit off-putting to some. I don't tend to be a huge fan in general, but there is one that I really like.

These were really good, and had a LOT of nice garlic flavor to them. No super heavy on the shrimp side. Their Spicy Chicken version is still one of the bests I've ever had though, that stuff is danger good. Not super hot, but a nice bit of spice and tons of flavor.

SO. GOOD.

Bought few of those Nongshims as this thread praised them so much and... they tasted exactly the same as every other instant noodle I've bought in the past.
