Bethesda: Deep Dive Gameplay for Both Starfield & Redfall coming soon

Wtf you mean by feigned concern?
Showing gameplay AFTER announcing a delay is a smack in the face.

They announced the delay a month before the showcase so they don't get overshadowed after showing the game in action.

It makes more sense to delay before a good showcase, than after it.

Not really. Not showing gameplay would be the smack in the face.
People want to know what starfield is. We 0 idea what the game is.
They need to show it to us this showcase.

I think most people already made that assumption when Xbox announced its own showcase.

High hopes for starfield and redfall. Hopefully Redfall leans more into the single player side than multiplayer aspect.
Really hopeful for what Arkane does with Redfall and have zero interest in playing a new multiplayer game. Got Warzone with friends when I need to scratch that itch.

Been replaying the Dishonored series, and those game just get better and better the more I play them. There's so much to take in and so much variety in how you approach situations that I'm still discovering new things.

So the good news there is that based on the leaked beta from last year, it's actually not like a Left 4 Dead style game, is actually more of a borderlands looter shooter with the emphasis on story that can be played Solo or co-op.

They keep calling it their most ambitious game, so that is encouraging at least.

I don't consider delaying a game as having management and leadership issues. If that's so, then naughty dog and Sony, and the rest of this industry as a whole have both of those issues, right?
It's not the delays themselves that makes me believe that there's management and leadership issues. It's everything over the last few years. As good as Microsoft has done with Xbox Series this generation, they had basically nothing at launch which is basically unacceptable, nothing for the first half of 2021, Halo Infinite MP seems to be lacking in content which is unacceptable for a live service game, they had an outage which showcases the need for them to eliminate their bullshit DRM and now, two massive delays. And this doesn't include no exclusives for 2022 thus far. Add in the fact that every game revealed the last two years haven't had any gameplay yet whatsoever. We're all still waiting.
People like to brush over this fact - Phil Spencer was the Head of 1st party during the Don Mattrick era. I'm not seeing how or why people expect things to change when it's still the same person in charge. He still has a lot to prove in that regard.
I agree with this but only to a certain extent. I know Spencer had Myerson above him which didn't help matters. You can't do much if anything when your boss is restricting everything you want to do. Spencer does have a lot to prove though. I do believe this generation will define his legacy in regards to Xbox. He has built a good foundation and bright future in my opinion but like I said above, every time you turn around, there always seems to be an issue. At some point, the issues need to end.
Trust and believe they are only going to show the very best side of Starfield and Redfall in these deep dives.
I hope so. I can only imagine what the responses will be if either but mainly Starfield have a bad showing. But we'll see in a month.

It's probably single player with MP and co op components like alot of XGS studio games. Set yourself up properly so we don't have to hear you whine about it later.

What? You would rather they didn't show gameplay? Well we all know you would prefer that, but for those of us who are looking forward to the game, some good gameplay will do wonders to ease the pain of the delay. It will need to impress though.

Is it a deep dive of gameplay or a deep dive of more concept art, in-engine non-gameplay renders, music and more Bethesda devs fake interviews and roundtables circlejerking on how great the game is going to be?

The issue I had is doing the two together. Most could see Redfall wasn't going to come out in the Summer and MS should have announced a while back. I think it would have been better to announce the delay after the showcase for StarField myself.

All MS has done is given a gift to the Xbox haters and created a lot of neagavtiy at the time people should be looking forward to the Showcase. I guess one can hope that they do have a almighty showcase lined up and just wanted to the get the bad stuff out of the way 1st

We want to see the game and we wanted to play it this November

Well I can somewhat agree with this. The bait and switch delay still sucks.
Their mini promotion, which they acted as if the game was full complete.
They sold us a nice lie.

See above

I'm excited for this game bc I'm fan of Bethesda SP games. But what this game is gonna be is pretty obvious, imo. Skyrim + Fallout + Mass Effect.

Soon?
When is that?

I'll get excited when I see it, too disappointed to get excited about vague PR right now.

If they can blow us away on the 12th, this delay will be quickly forgotten.

Precisely why it was a smart decision to get this news out of the way now. Although, I think everyone and their brother figured that Redfall had slipped back.

Only real criticism I see here is that they should not have continued to reinforce the launch date if there were questions about it. Bethesda was still tweeting about it just a couple of weeks ago I think.

So first when it was expected to drop later this year people whined non-stop about why aren't they seeing any gameplay. And now that it's been pushed further away and they've made clear we are going to get a deep dive look at gameplay for both games, now those same people are now saying they don't see the point of showing gameplay? I literally said something like this would occur as we approached closer to gameplay, too.

What "same people"? I complained about not seeing gameplay and I absolutely still want to see gameplay, sooner rather than later. You are responding to a guy who says he never complained about not seeing gameplay. So who are these "same people" you are referencing in order to claim you were right? And did you predict the game was going to be delayed?

"If you're going in expecting something that merely meets Left 4 Dead and Borderlands somewhere in the middle, though, you'll likely be surprised; Redfall comes from Arkane – you know, the folks behind Dishonored, Deathloop, and Prey – and so has a lot of 'immersive sim' in its DNA, too. Bethesda's own Pete Hines has said that Redfall is "very similar" to Arkane's previous output when it comes to its design pillars, so you can expect this level of mechanical freedom in here, too. Given that your vampire enemies will also "continue to evolve" as the game progresses, I think it all sounds like a pretty exciting package."

This is starting to sound more and more interesting, looking forward to seeing it.

I think that was a pretty obvious one.
While you can delay a game, you still want the hype train going. Its marketing.

So you follow up with some sort of gameplay or trailer after announcing the delay. Besides we are only a few weeks away to xbox showcase.

Sounds interesting, but it all depends on the execution. Game could be great or terrible.

I would think Redfall will be first, since the beta was last year. They are so different though that being close together shouldn't really be a problem as one is a single player game and one a big online shooter.
It would be fantastic if Redfall was like end of Feb or March.

I'll admit the announcement did leave me thinking "Left 4 Dead clone", this is encouraging info. Hope it points to a proper campaign.

We already got some Elder Scrolls VI footage:

Purple hair, it checks out on the crazy as hell scale.

I am just thinking about how far away the next Elder scrolls game is.

Not as far as you think since it isn't a new IP and much of the mechanics for that game has been done countless times already by Bethesda. That doesn't mean there won't be important game related changes and updates, there will be, but the next Elder Scrolls isn't as big a challenge as Starfield is for Bethesda as a totally new universe and game franchise.

Overall I agree. But 343 definitely has management issues. And probably the initiative as well.

I agree about 343i but not about the initiative as that's a studio built from the ground up so I don't expect them to push games so often.

Assumptions don't always pan out in this industry. Coming from a longtime Nintendo fan.

Anyway, can't wait!! One of my favorite developers!

343 was also a studio built from the ground up. They were built ground up for Halo. I don't see any major management issues besides not being able to make their initial launch date, having to push the game back, and as a result that pushed a number of other things back. They had an enormous task in the middle of a global pandemic. Microsoft transitioned ALL employees without question to work from home situations. Not everybody will adjust well to that. 343 built an entirely brand new game engine for Halo, they built the first ever Halo with an actual open world, explorable Halo ring. They didn't build the same old tired formula of Halo game. It introduced many new, in my view, exciting and game changing game mechanics such as a tac map, forward operating bases, high value target dossiers and assassination missions, RPGesque armor upgrades, ammo refill stations, optional marine rescue and outpost assaults you can tackle in a more dynamic and option rich manner than you could in any prior Halo by far. This campaign is more like a Spartan Super Soldier simulation game.

And do I need to mention how big a game changer the grappleshot is? Best new gameplay addition in the history of Halo games after the first one. There may not have been a crap ton of varied biomes, but the map and terrain design or layout, and how it impacts gameplay versatility is unmatched in any prior Halo, especially when you factor in how the various armor upgraded armor abilities can be applied in combat. And they brought new features to the multi-player side as well. Academy, training mode, weapon drills, the bots.

While some see an opportunity to troll 343, I see opportunity to praise them for always not being afraid to try new things and introduce new elements with each new Halo project.

What I never lose track of is that these people are human beings, not robots. Is there no limit to how many setbacks there can be before even I will say "okay, this is ridiculous now; what the fuck is going on?" No, there is a limit, but they are nowhere remotely close to that considering the monumental effort Halo Infinite clearly was at the height of a pandemic. So for me, considering there are people who wake up each morning and go to sleep each night with some thoughts of doing their very best work for my personal enjoyment, I'm going to show them the respect they deserve and cut them some slack for being behind or needing more time to get to where they need to. The way people are acting you would think they went 3-4 years since Halo Infinite's release with nothing to show for it.

Based on the beta leaks from last year, this game is supposed to be more like Borderlands, an open world game story based game which can be played solo or co-op, and not a level to level shooter like Left 4 Dead or Back 4 Blood.

That has definitely increased my interest in the game.
