Key to the locking tab thing is making sure you don't use a metal mount, ever. There are some with (really soft) replaceable inserts on them.

I have a newer K-Edge which uses plastic instead of metal for the bracket for this very reason. They're hope is to have the bracket break before the back of the Garmin does (they offer free replacements + cost of shipping). Unfortunately when you're moving 20+ and slam your bike down there isn't much that is going to stop the mount from breaking.

I posted last week asking for bike advice since I wanted to get into biking. Welp, I ended up getting one last weekend.

I tried that and some Giant bike but preferred this one.

Only got to ride about 10 miles or so as the weather hasn't been great (it started pouring on my ride) but I like it so far.

I feel like this bike is a good start for me and if I keep up with it I can get a nice road bike down the line. Only complaint so far is I don't really like the grips as my hands get pretty sweaty and they don't seem to have enough "grip" for me.

Unless there's a way to export RunKeeper data, I feel I'm pretty much locked into that app. Which is unfortunate, because RunKeeper could really use some better resource management. My own bike attacked me today. Dismounted, took a step forward and BAM, pedal right on my left shin, drew some blood too.

What's really great is the flats that have sharp bolts all over for added grip. Sometimes surprising if it doesn't draw blood even if it's just lightly brushing your leg.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I did a quick search and it appears that Tapiriik is the go-to for importing data between services. I'm currently importing my Runkeeper data into Strava. I'll be sure to post impressions afterwards.

Been riding gloveless for the last two months and it's been kind of refreshing. On some days it sucks a lot because of how sweaty my hands will be, but overall I'm enjoying it. I did 65 miles without them and my hands were fine too.

I've been going gloveless because my last pair had a weird rub spot and I noticed one day there's a callous about 1/4" on the inside of my right thumb. Well, it's 1/4" now, it was about 50% bigger when I noticed it.

6 feet. I got the same frame size but my saddle is like a good 6 inches high.

Anyone gone from a 26" wheel frame to a 29" wheel frame? I'm going to invest in a Cube Reaction GTC 29" (to go with my Reaction GTC 26" bike).

My frame size is 20" on my 26", would 21" be realistically okay on a 29" wheel bike (it's that or 17" which I'm sure would be too small). I'm 5"11 and have about half an inch room when stood above my frame.

I'm wondering if you can improve cardiovascular and work towards burning calories. I used to do jogging, but my foot bones can't stand the impact despite running shoes.

Fresh air and scenery are not a factor. I prefer convenience of having the machine available anytime and several steps away from me.

So yesterday I find out that those years wearing boots in the military caused my feet to start spreading out years before they're supposed to (you get old, your feet get wide) and that's why I've been having so much foot pain lately. Not only that but pretty much anything I do - to include, oh, say, going on long bike rides or really just riding a bike at all - makes it worse because the shoes will never fit my feet right. Running? Hiking? Well they're straight the hell out the window. I'm so mad I've been having a low-grade panic attack since my appointment. My arms/hands are shaking like I have Parkinson's (wouldn't that be a kick in the ass right now, too) and even my knees are shaking.

I woke up this morning and my damn tablet was dead because I forgot to turn off the GPS program. So I go to use my ipod for my bike ride - it does GPS too, albeit with wifi - and it won't connect to my router. Whatever! I get to work and when I go to listen to my ipod it's dead. It won't turn on, it won't reset (the home button is broken so I can't reset it as far as I can tell), it's just fucking dead. And I know it's charged because I plugged it in last night before I went to bed.

I can't wait to go downstairs after I get off work and find out both wheels are flat or something and I can't ride home.

No, not neccesarily. I think my point was more that frame size is only really a starting point.

Custom orthotics. Problem solved (at least in part).

Far from cheap, but I know a number of pro riders that basically wouldn't be able to use a bike without them.

There is usually some sort of foot retention on fixed because skid stopping is hard/dangerous on regular flats. Obviously irrelevant, but now you know.

So I fucked my bike up this morning (well a car did) so I'm looking to buy a new one. I got my old one for free from work, and it's always been a bit knackered, so it seems like a good opportunity to actually buy a half decent one.

I've been looking around and my local bike shop has these Specialized ones on sale:

Yeah, Specialized bicycles are good. For what purpose will you be using your bicycle for, though? Personally, I'm not too keen on mountain bikes as anything but offroad bicycles. If you're commuting to work and back, then a hybrid is a good decision, as well as a road bicycle.

That's how I do it. When I bought my road bike I looked into getting a computer, but I figured using the phone would be just as good and it was already something I owned. Quad Lock has been my go-to ever since. It's easy, sturdy, and also doubles as a case. The entry price is high, is the only thing.
