Black Desert Online |OT| Come on in, the sand's fine [Mediah Update]

I want to fucking play! Damn...

I ain't gonna lie, I'm feelin the oldish MMO style in this game that initially made MMOs my favorite genre. I haven't even played to level 20 on any character, but every hour I've played, I just become more attached to the game. I'm really impressed with the feeling they have captured with BDO. I can't believe how stale MMO's as a whole have become, so it's nice to see this game really flip the script on fantasy MMOs. I'm hoping that the game has some good success and the developers can continue to build on what they have created.

Stayed up till 2am to play, get the patches and now they say an extra hour.

Damn, I'll come back later in the day. Pretty poor communication. No patch notes, no updates on the official website.

They never do maintenance ? I don't even recall the launch of that game, made it to I think 45 or 50 and never played again.

they pretty much never do, it's pretty fantastic. No downtime between patches either, pretty perfect system honestly, and it's a shame that other companies haven't copied.

Yeah I dunno what wizardry ANet does to keep Guild Wars 2 up, but it's insane. They don't even have maintenance for patches usually.

Sadly it's the exception and not the norm for MMOs. :<

Yeah I assume it has to be something right down in how they built their infrastructure or how the game was built. Pretty sure Blizzard, Square Enix and all the other company don't bring their servers down because they want to, but because they have too to keep things running smoothly.

I wonder if ArenaNet are running their own server or it's NCsoft, because they have plenty of MMO with downtime.

I'm new to the game and not entirely sure how the server system works, anyway I was wondering what server the EU guild for (assuming it's server specific and that there are multiple ones) Gaf is on and if it's possible to join as soon as I create my character?

It's in the first post of the thread. (all the way down) GAF in Europe are on Jordine - Serendia 1. Serendia-1 is just a channel on Jordine, you can move around those to your leisure.

I'd love to try this game but something scares me : I usually love being the tradeskills guy, but seeing as trading between players is limited will I still be able to focus my playtime around all the professions?

For sure. Trading is done by the Marketplace. You can even trade with NPC around the game. Like for example fish from a coastal city will sell more if they are still fresh to city far from water. Just an example I'm still new to the game myself. You can make boats, furniture for peoples home etc. There's a LOT of things to craft.

Is there a good way to see what ingredients you need to make something? I know there's the Crafting help thing you can open, but it didn't seem to list all the ingredients? Like for Beer it mentions Leavening agent, but not the 3-4 other things you need?

GW2 maintenance is invisible to the players. You just get a notice while you're playing that "new build is available". Then you logout when you want, download the patch, and get back in.

ArenaNet has the best infrastructure of MMOs ever. Was the same in GW1.

They are joking right?

2900 pearls (2500 now as a sale thing which according to them is 25 euros, so 29 euros) for one costume.

One costume.

29 euros.

A costume that can't be replicated, used on any other servers, nothing. Just that -one- character who can use it.

It was 32, but yea it's still a bit steep IMO. It's a costume, not the whole game. They need to get it down into impulse territory where I think "I'll skip Starbucks a couple days" not "Do I want a new videogame or not"
