Black Desert Online |OT| Come on in, the sand's fine [Mediah Update]

why does my texture and graphical quality keep defaulting back to medium when I log back in?

I had that for a while, same as hotkey bindings resetting.

It may be a bug.

For the graphics, click the setting icon in the main launcher and change some stuff there and see if that helps keep the high setting saved in game.

Got a Steam controller for this today, best thing ever. Like it way more than my Xbox One Elite controller.

Any decent guides to set it up, and get BDO to attach to Steam properly? Are people emulating the 360 controller setup, or mapping keyboard controls to the pad?

Yeah that's most likely it. I'm sure this kind of stuff will be ironed out before long.

This was my starting point earlier this morning:

https://www.reddit.com/r/blackdesertonline/comments/48rwni/the_steam_controller_thread/

Goes through how to add it to Steam to get the overlay working and also shows a button config. But really just I downloaded the most popular community one on Steam for the game and altered that to my liking.

I tried mapping gamepad controls and didn't like it one bit, so I switched over to a pure KB/M configuration. Works like a charm now, and I could play the whole game on controller in theory.

My configuration should be up on Steam now, if anyone wishes to see it. Make sure your shortcut is named "Black Desert Online" in Steam.

Well, in my attempt to manage my inventory more I tried to use the auto transport function to move some items I'm not using yet to another town... and they disappeared? Maybe it's just a bug in the display, but they're no longer showing as being transported and the destination town has nothing in it. I read that function is immune to bandit attacks, but maybe it's not? I never got a message about anything happening to them, anyway.

If I can't transport things between towns safely I might just stop playing. I don't think I can deal with the extreme inventory limits when the game throws so many ingredients at you for life quests. Not to mention the annoying oversights when it comes to the inventory. I guess I could just grind it out until 50 and then go back and do crafting once I have more inventory space, but unless I can safely transport goods between towns automatically I'll really start to get irritated eventually.

EDIT: And literally right as I finish typing that I get a message transport is complete. Guess it really was a display bug with the UI. Annoying that /reloadui didn't fix it, but at least my stuff didn't poof out of assistance.

UI has some big issues right now.
Earlier I was trying to make a worker to do some crafting. Even though the UI showed he was idle, I couldnt make him work on anything because it told him he was already working. Relogging showed me he was gathering (something that didnt shown before). So yeah, sometimes the game fucks up.

I don't know what I'm doing yet but I love this game already. I can only imagine what it's like for those with high end gfx cards. Oh... how do I fish? I have a fishing rod and I see others fishing, but I don't see a prompt. Also, is there any reason to buy property, especially at the beginning of the game? Seems like something I might regret doing.

Equip it, move to the water, press space. Press space when you catch a fish, then press space again inside the blue part of the bar. Then play a WASD minigame of repeat the code.

Move to the water first, then equip your fishing rod. You move awkwardly with the rod equipped. >.<;

GAF Guild fishing our hearts out for a fish that doesn't seem to want to drop.

Edit: NATURALLY AFTER I SAY THIS WE GET THREE OF THEM -.-;

So with the revelation that 30d contracts ARE 30k a day, I'm going to do everyone at week to week renewals.
Man, that just doesn't sound right. Do they not let you edit payment separate from time?

IDK if you're cancelling contracts, but it'll be midnight UTC in about an hour. We'll see definite proof of this contract business. That would definitely suck if we can't set longer times.

Soooo I can't get past this quest called Grusha's Advice. I have all ready explored all of the goblin cave and activated the goblin mural for the node. Any ideas on what i need to do???

Also posted this like a bunch of pages ago but if anyone wants to friend me or invite me to the guild when their is spots open, it would be cool.

If for some reason you can't get ahold of me in game (because I'm afk fishing or whatever) then you can also direct message me on the Discord channel. Pretty much a guaranteed way of ensuring I get back to you, and get you invited if there is a slot available.

I'll probably hold off on asking for a re-invite until the member count gets upped enough. Since I work swing shift I don't have time to help with any missions during the week. No need for me to take up a slot if someone who wants in is on and can help out.

I don't think I've ever had the "knowledge" to talk to NPCs and I have no idea how to "get knowledge."

This game.... it's not very intuitive =(

Put simply, you get knowledge for anything you do. Talking to an NPC for the first time gets you knowledge. Exploring places gets you knowledge. Killing an enemy enough times gets you knowledge. And so forth and so forth. All this knowledge is shared across characters on your account too, so there's no need to re-obtain it on each alt. In regards to NPC specifically, once you've obtained enough knowledge about a particular subject (for example, merchants may be interested in the other merchants in the city you're in. So talk to all of them to get it.) you can start the conversation minigame with them to learn even more stuff. If you can't start the conversation minigame, or an NPC wants specific information before you can even engage them, then it'll tell you what they're looking for.

You have to talk to other NPCs to unlock some of them, or complete quests.

Knowledge is... knowledge of NPCs, monsters, places that you see and unlock as you go.

The game has a lot of systems that you have to learn, but once you do everything makes perfect sense.
It just requires some brain effort for a couple of days to understand things.

Take a quick look at NPCs. Do they have a [!] next to their icon? That means you can get first-time talk knowledge from them.

I thought that just meant they have a quest for you? I was under the impression that the ones marked with a "?" on the mini-map are the ones you haven't talked to yet and would typically grant you the first-time talk knowledge.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there anyway to extend environmental and shadow pop-in? Game is beautiful, but this is distracting as hell. I have everything maxxed and this just doesn't seem right. =/

The game has those issues, apparently it's innate with the engine they created. The only thing that somewhat relieves, granted not by much though, is enabling high-end game mode in the settings. Hope that helps!

So this seems odd and janky - I'm not used to Korean MMO's or something. Like I'm reading quest text and people are saying shit that has nothing to do with the quest text and it's like sensory overload or something.

So as someone who is usually immediately turned off by traditional mmo's, because of early game quest grinding, or slow combat. Should i be interested in this game, or is it not for me? Reading the OP has kind of peeked my interest.

Depends on what you hate about most MMOs. There is a bit of grinding, but it's not like low level quest style grinding in other games. Quests in this don't even give traditional experience; you get other rewards that make them worthwhile. There's also a huge variety of quests. Quests for combat are there, of course. But there's also quests for exploration, tradeskills, gathering. We just completed a guild quest to gather tons of logs from trees and were rewarded with a ton of money, for example. Many players opt to skip doing quests entirely, and simply go find the hardest things they can to grind for their levels. A lot of what you earn is shared across alts too.

As for the combat.... even one of the slowest classes in the game, Wizard/Witch, is still significantly faster than most MMOs. The speedier classes are really fast, and it's akin to a fighting game.
