Black man fatally shot by police in Los Angeles; Family says was lying down when shot

I've been asked this question every time I've been pulled over. I told my white coworkers this and they looked at me like I was from Mars. I had to explain to them all of the extra shit black people have to go through when dealing with cops. They were still skeptical that it was actually happening though.

I can't necessarily blame folks too much for not fully understanding how bad it is for other folks. I mean, yeah, it's ignorant and the signs of inequality are pretty obvious if you're looking for them, but if someone hasn't lived a life that required a lot of integration, I guess I could see someone thinking that stuff was really an artifact of the '60s and otherwise things are generally "okay" for everyone apart from outliers. Where I draw a line, though, is when people are hearing it right from someone's mouth that they were treated unfairly by authority, complete with some rather simplistic details (like "we were in southern Louisiana, both me and another car were travelling about the same speed and had the same basic level of tinting on the car, but I have an Alpha Phi Alpha license plate, and I was the one that got pulled over and they questioned me for 30 minutes") and someone just looks at complainant and says "Nah, that couldn't have happened, you must be mistaken.". With that statement, the person hearing the story has gone from "I was a sheltered person" to "I am part of the problem" and from ignorance to stupidity.

Most will never understand, or will they you're bitter and angry for no reason.
They will never understand until it starts happening to them. I think the reason so much attention is being paid to these murders is because police are finally starting to harass white people so it can no longer be ignored.

As I said before, this shit would change with a quickness if it were white people in body bags.

"When the officers got closer and attempted to stop the individual, the individual turned, grabbed one of the officers, and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, they fell to the ground and the individual attempted to remove the officer's handgun from its holster. The partner officer then fired his handgun and the officer on the ground fired his backup weapon at the individual.
"After the officers fired their handguns at the individual, they were able to handcuff him and call for a rescue ambulance. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the individual to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead."

-- LAPD

so its the same standard Trayvon story.

The negro attacked the officers, Tried to steal the gun, and they had to shoot him, then handcuff him.

"It is unknown if the suspect has any gang affiliations," the LAPD said in a statement after the killing.

Why is this in the statement?

On Monday, August 11, 2014, around 8:20 pm, Newton Patrol Division officers conducted an investigative stop in the 200 block of West 65th Street
For what reason was he stopped?

Why is this in the statement?
Anything to distract from whether there was wrongdoing by police. It reinforces the idea that black people are either "affiliated with gangs, or aren't [one of the good ones]" rather than just people. Anything to plant the seed of doubt and encourage more people to assume future victims "must have done something wrong."

And to distract people from questions like this
For what reason was he stopped?

Update [12:15]: The LAPD says that Ezell Ford "whirled around and basically tackled" one of two police officers who approached him and went for the officer's gun. Commander Andy Smith says that the tackled officer was on his back and had to use his "backup weapon" and that Ford was also shot by the officer's partner, according to the LA Times.

Man, what is with all these black people going for officer's guns and giving them the perfect reason to shoot them

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

all these news stories are making my head hurt!

some humans are filled with love, other types quite clearly hate.

help us almighty!

Negro hunting season is at full effect.

Thank GOD I'm in Canada.

I'm not kidding here.

If I was black I'd be scared to leave the house right now. No joke.

Especially if you're in 100 miles of where these last 3 killings have taken place.

Someone on reddit pointed out: When was the last time a white person, male or female, was shot by the police when they mistakenly thought they had a weapon? He was replying to someone black who said it's not about race, but police becoming militant.

Of course he went for their gun.

Reminds me of that incident earlier this year where dashcam footage saved someone from serious jail time. The guy was pulled over and received a beat down from two officers. He had his hands up, sitting in his truck, and one of the officers was screaming "stop going for my gun!" while punching the guy in the face. They pull the guy out of the truck, beat him down on the ground, still screaming "why you trying to get my gun? Get off my gun!".

Reads like made up bullshit. But here's the video for those who missed the story (footage goes crazy @ 2:30):

"How come...with the thousands of black cops in America...you ain't never picked up the paper, turned on the TV, or the news...and seen white folk crying...because this black cop...shot my loved one in the back of the head...cause he thought the cellphone was a gun. How come you don't see that?...You think black cops is...more spiritual? You think better qualified? Nah...They got enough sense to know that white folks ain't going to tolerate it...And the only reason they do to us what they do cause you tolerate it."

Getting shot, complying, lying on the fucking ground?

Or fuck it, let's say he was going for their gun. At this point it's just officers waiting for situation where they might be able to use their weapon.
