Leto and Gosling are A-listers? LMFAO
Uh.... Absolutely?
Leto and Gosling are A-listers? LMFAO
Isnt the first one just a cult classic which did poorly at the box office that took multiple releases to get good anyway ?
Edit: like why would we expect a sequel to take off?
How much of this BO failure could be attributed to audiences not appreciating hard science fiction films anymore? I remember the same disappointment when audiences didn't go see Edge of Tomorrow

With the success of stuff like Arrival, Ex Machina, The Martian...and yes, Interstellar, people might have thought that audiences were opening up to less action-y sci-fiWhen did they appreciate them? The original wasn't a hit either. Why do people keep saying "today's audience" when the original was not a commercial success, not even a critical one, when it came out?
From the movie podcast I was listening to said the same thing. Great visuals but an overbloated mess.

What are you talking about?? You really think the sequel needed to spend 6x as much budget as the original LOLIf your gonna make a sequel to Blade Runner you need a lot of money to capture the look that rivals the first movie.

This was always the expected scenario, but still sad to see. Finally going to see it next week, then again probably with my dad. Going in IMAX for first viewing, it's the only way.
Uhh, maybe from the perspective of someone who needs HYPERSTIMULATION NOW NOW NOW NOW.Deserved. It was a bad movie tbh. I just cannot recommend a 2.5hrs movie like that to anybody but the biggest of cyberpunk fans.
I enjoyed it, but I feel awful for asking friends to come see it with me.
It would need to be a big budget to capture the world of Blade Runner.
Above was your original reply to me. A big budget sequel was not necessary at all and a terrible call. Don't move the goal postThe studio clearly wanted to go big or go home with this movie.
The scene withmeant nothing.Gaff
The scenes with thewere meaningless.guy running the orphanage
The fight? Scene betweenwas also pretty pointless.K and Deck
Those are off the top of my head.
Those are movies that are, grounded, if that makes sense. Very human experiences without any weird side effects that most audiences can relate to. Blade Runner on the other hand feels alien compared to those.

Im about to help out a bit with my girlfriend, but I asked my friends and most of them didnt know what it was/hadnt watched the original so they werent interested.
I mean I agree. I'm GLAD we did get a big budget Blade Runner although I haven't had the chance to see it yet. It's just more of a "I hope the studio isn't surprised at all by this" type of ordealI mean whatever. We got a dam good looking Blade Runner movie. Money well spent regardless. It's the thing most people are gonna say is flawless.
They didnt know what it was so they weren't interested? How will you ever be interested in something if you don't give it a chance? Talk about being close minded. If I had written off stuff I didnt know about I would have missed out on some of the best movies and games Ive ever seen/played.
I pitched BR2049 to some friends as "detective thriller in a sci-fi backdrop". They saw the rottentomatoes score and were sold. One of them even called it his movie of the year.
Edge of Tomorrow, Fury Road, BR2049 are probably going to be my 'underappreciated' holy trinity now.
Deakins had better win his Oscar.
People wanna talk about BR2049 being too long or slow paced while turning out in droves for Revenant.
That movie was like watching paint dry.
No Dredd?
It's a movie for people who use their brains for bigger questions than "should I watch reaction videos or prank videos?"Non geek friends I know think its just a geek film
Ive seen tons of marketing though in public spaces though but I guess the original is considered more of a geek thing?
Ex Machina has very similar themes. That said Ex Machina was a hit respective to its budget more than total numbers.
Not to mention that BR2049 was grounded, it's all about humanity and the concept of self.
Even the sci fi elements are mostly subdued. Flying cars, holgraphics and drones essentially.
The budget was ONE HUNDRED FIFTY MILLION US DOLLARS????!!!!
Who the hell approved this? And why?
This thread is going places!Whatever, fuck capitalism
At no point I felt that the movie was dragging or wasting my time with unnecessary fillers. It felt tight. It was just going at a slower pace than most movies. You can see it in each cuts. They were much slower to switch to the next cut than today's movies. And that pacing was necessary for me to digest everything that was going on with the story. Even than, I missed a bunch of stuff after reading reviews and such. I need to watch again today.
Trailer didn't do it any justice. There wasn't any hype leading up to this movie unless you were a huge fan of the first one. I still plan on seeing next weekend.

Aw fuck, I hope Dune isn't affected. Damn we were so close! Denis did his part. Goddamn it America
Sigh, movies like BvS and 2049 try to be classy and sophisticated, but the average movie goer can't appreciate it.
I hate people, we let this masterpiece fall by the wayside.
