BlimBlim's PGR3 impressions

I'm just out of a very quick meeting with Bizarre (thanks again for cutting short your meal time for us!) about PGR3. Impressions inside, with a nice video of the track editor.

The version we got to see was about one month old now (latest "stable" build) and it was already much better than what I got to see in Leipzig
. This time the game seemed mostly content complete and needed only a lot of small touch-ups everywhere.
Firs we got to see the menus and options, especially for the Career and online career modes (seems a bit like Forza's). We then gpt to see the track editor (see video) and then we finally saw the game itself running.
This build was running at 30 fps but sometimes it was difficult even for trained eyes like mine to be sure it wasn't 60 fps thanks to the excellent motion blur. Most visual effects were included and except for the building textures being still in low resolution (needing some streaming fixed first) it looked just great. It looked exactly like the screenshots, except it now moved very nicely. The sound was also really good now, with big differences between the inside car view (also great) and outside.
The Kudos system has been refined and now reflects your actions more accurately. Using or not the handbrake will change your kudos score accordingly for example. Mostly it's now easier to understand why you get Kudos for something or not.
We could not stay long but we finally got to see the photo mode, lots of options there (camera shutter, focus, sepia color, you name it) for a very cool looking final image you'll be able to save on the hard drive of the console.
The Bizarre team seemed very confident about the game being ready for launch, and it also seemed that the game running at 60fps is still very much possible.

I`m pretty much the opposite, happy with all the other choices besides Nurburgring. We had it in PGR2, Forza and GT4 if you had a PS2, why do we want it again? Plus I`ve always found it a pretty bland and boring track.

Uh, best track ever but yeah it bland in PGR2 becuase it was not accurate. Hopefully they got it right this time.

the ring! OMG i cannot wait to see that :O :O :O

funny, cause last night i set up my DFP and gt4 and played for several hours on the ring alone. just for shits.

Yeah whats the deal with True Force Feedback wheel support at this point? Will 360 devs support the DFP as someone from EA stated?

it seems like a given. i just hope the dfp is supported 100% as its a killer wheel (shut up isamu) and i'd prefer not to have to buy another

Gamespot is posting huge video files, their Kameo Video Tour is 41 minutes long too. At least that includes a lot of gameplay footage.

They've also got a long CliffyB Gears of War interview on Gamespot with the best footage I've seen of the game thus far.

"this is the city selection of the game... hehehehe... if you could not show this basically.... you can talk about tokyo. the others havent been announced basically."

:lol gamespot owned bizarre!

photomode at any time during the game, just hit start. fucking awesome

oh, ok, news to me. i hope we get media from the new areas soon, especially nurburgring :D

car showroom, garage and test track makes a return :O

100-150 new physics parameters for ea car built upon the physics in pgr2 :)

fuck, i cant wait

Man I really hope they get some FF support in.

DFP support seems unlikely since MS seems to be licensing peripherals or some shit.

What is this Hori wheel talk?
I'm not 100% sure, but this Hori wheel seemed a bit small to be a force feedback wheel.
Ho and I also asked the Bizarre guys about Force Feedback. There is no support for FF in the game for the moment, but if a FF wheel is released quickly after launch (they thought it was likely) they would release an update for the game.

The kudos system was very accurate and high sensible on PGR2 and the handbreak already give you kudos if you achieve a power slide depending of how much time could you mantain it without crashing.
Sorry I don't want to sound harsh but those impressions doesn't sound too different from PGR2

there was definitely room for improvement in that regard in pgr2. plenty of times i'd pull incredible shit and get 20 kudos or even none at all. from all accounts, the new system is better at dishing out kudos for deserving drivers. whats to knock?

Exactly. Maybe I could no describe it correctly, but the new (or upgraded) system seemed much better.

Each game in the series usually refines the kudos system quite a bit. MSR -> PGR1 was a *huge* jump. No more losing kudos for hitting other cars (which with the AI, was really, really common). Also got rid of getting negative kudos points. PGR1 -> PGR2 refined the basic system more, as well as adding stuff like taking the proper lines, drafting, etc. I dunno what else they can do in PGR3 besides just refining things, though.

If they were smart they would sneak some DFP drivers in regardless.

yup. doesnt the DFP work with pc titles? is FF support generic, ie if you support FF, all FF wheels will work?

I dont think there are generic drivers though there are some backard compatibilites afaik. The DFP is becoming the standard in even PC racing games so I would think it would be an obvious inclusion.

Microsoft should just make it's own wheel or hire Logitech to design them one. I don't think Microsoft makes wheels anymore but shouldn't prevent them making one.

while that would be great, and is probably likely, thos of us that own the DFP really dont need to spend 100 + on another wheel.

snce pc titles support DFP, i'm hopefull 360 will. we shall see though.

Hopefully the 'ring is modeled accurately this time. One of the turns in the GT4 version isn't accurate, and I heard a rumor that the fatalities/injuries on the real-life 'ring skyrocketed because people thought they knew the track from driving GT4 and the corner caught them by surprise.

after playing the ring on gt4 quite extensively the past few days, anyone know what corner specifically?

what?

W______H_______A_______T_______??????

....you're kidding....right. How the FUCK could they not have ff support in this game after there are already comments from M$ saying that there will be an FF wheel to launch with the 360??? What the FUCK is going on here???? That is UTTER BULLSHIT!!!! First the framerate is only 30fps, now you're telling me the game won't have force feedback?? *throws monitor out the window*...it seems they really, REALLY don't want me to buy this game! It's like they're like "Yeah, let's purposely fuck the game up, so isamu will stick to Ridge Race only"

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE GUYS???? I simply don't get it. The 360 has STANDARD USB PORTS for fucks sakes!!! All they gotta do is stick the ff drivers in there and we're good to go. I swear...if they honestly keep ff support out of PGR3, or don't privide them in a d/l patch after a couple weeks, I WILL NOT BE BUYING THIS FUCKING GAME....period!!!
