News & Reviews:

"As people and performers, we definitely still have some stuff we need to work out, and we need to grow up with,"... "[The album] is lyrically pretty heavy in a lot of places. Maybe that's where we are in our heads. We've gone through a lot of stuff over the past few years. We're in a better place because of it all-but we've gone through some shit."
Billboard cover story

“I was thinking we had so much to prove,” he said. But seeing Blink-182 through younger people’s eyes helped. “I feel totally different now,” he said. “I’m much more accepting of what it is, I don’t want to change it as much as it did.” ... “if you can prove you have the staying power, people just surrender.”
New York Times Article

Neighborhoods is a deep, dark, downright auto-biographical effort, and when Hoppus sings "Hold on, the worst is yet to come" (on the bopping "MH 4.18.2011"), you don't really believe him. The worst is over. It's all good from here on out.
James Montgomery @ mtv.com

Whether it was “the right way” or not, all of the days that we have waited for Neighborhoods have been well worth it. It’s been seven years and 10 months since Blink-182 released its self-titled record. If every nearly eight-year absence will spawn a great record like Neighborhoods, I think it’s safe to say that I’d be willing to encounter the wait again.
Thomas Nassiff @ absolutepunk.net

Neighborhoods is simply full of new surprises. It’s amazing to hear how much this band has grown, not only with the change of their sound, but in the way that their lyrics have improved and matured as well. Each musician’s sound is so crystal clear that it’s nearly impossible not to recognize how much work was put into Neighborhoods’ production. Whether you’re a fan of Barker’s drums, DeLonge’s guitar or Hoppus’ vocals, this album is a must for Blink fans of all kinds.
Rita Heidtman @ bsides.myx.tv

If you want to listen to a fresh pop-punk record from a band that helped build the foundations of modern pop-punk music as we know it, then Neighbourhoods is well worth a listen. But please, don’t go expecting lyrics such as “took a shit in the bathroom tub” as you will be disappointed. Blink 182 has evolved, and this album is a start of a new era for them, I hope they can keep making records that shows this much promise and talent.

I'm really glad to see these guys back together and continuing to make music. The album is just as strong as their last album (the self titled album from 7 years ago), but it's also considerably stronger. Definitely going to be in the top ten of releases this year.

I bailed on them after Take off your pants and Jacket. I had been listening since Buddha/Chesire Cat. They were a big part of my middle/high school years.

Grew out of them and got turned off by all the side stuff they did over the years.

Still, really curious to see how they grown. Sounds like they wanna distance themselves from the "wee-wee" stuff.

Lookin' forward to next week. Is there no place to stream this until then? (legitimately of course)

Not that I know of currently, but the thread will be updated when and if such a thing pops up.

I'd be in the dick
I preordered the deluxe edition with the hoodie. I'm kind of hoping I get one of the hilariously shitty "secret prizes" since those will be far more abundant than the legitimately awesome ones.

I had no idea that was even going on...updated the OP with it and will probably pre-order now instead of just waiting for the street date. That's pretty rad.

I've listened to it twice, and while it's a solid, enjoyable album, it doesn't really click with me. I'll listen to it again and try to post something more in detail.

the album definitely seems really well-rounded but it hasn't clicked with me yet. the production on tom's vocals reaaaaally bugs me but maybe this album will grow on me. i can definitely see how people would really enjoy it but i guess it's just not for me at this point.

If I get the lifetime tickets I will literally go to half the shows on their next tour... road trips rule.

deluxe is definitely the only way to go, you'd be missing out on some of the best songs on the album.

How you guys can possibly still like these washed-up douchebags is beyond me

Wow, what a coincidence; everything I like is of the highest objective quality, too!

We should hang out some time and laugh at these plebes and their poor taste.

^^ That really makes no sense. If a picture of some clothes and an album makes you not wanna listen, then you werent really on board to begin with.

The fact that a band is trying to sell merchandise makes you not want to listen to the music they make. So I guess you don't listen to music, considering every single band ever on earth does this?

This might be the best post I've ever read. Bravo sir.

Used to love Blink to death, but like a lot of people, I grew out of them. Now I find a lot of their older stuff stuff after Dude Rance unlistenable. But I have really enjoyed their new single. I hope the whole album is great.

It's a solid album. Very different to their older stuff, but they haven't brought anything out in eight years, so it's normal. I think they deserve some respect for not releasing a crap album.

And please, you fucking arrogant bastards, if you don't like blink-182 in the first place, fuck outta here.

word. People tend to associate blink with immature crappy punk rock, which it was and I still find it awesome. Its not that now, not at all. I don't even know what genre Blink 182 is in now... maybe you'd call it alternative rock?

I for one applaud that Blink is "growing up", if they made albums like they made in their teens at their age, it is just sad

Whatever S/T and all of AvA's albums were under, the same would hoid up with this album.

This already makes me not want to listen to it
The moment I saw those pics in the OP, I knew someone would post this.

Don't you realize how petty you sound. I mean, just let it sink in for a little. You just said you don't want to listen to a cd because you don't like the promotional t-shirts (or the people wearing them). Just...uh, fucking horrendous attitude, and it's commonplace.

This thread made me look for Blink's self-titled album. I totally forgot Robert Smith was on a track. D:
All of This is an awesome song, crazy that they got him to do that

I've made it through 10 of 14 tracks so far and I find it to be complete and utter garbage. I was "into" Blink when I was like 13/14 years old, but lost interest in them after that quite a bit. I still pop in Dude Ranch or Cheshire Cat once in a while for nostalgia. But this is...Fucking awful. Not only do I not like the "new sound" but it's poorly produced all around. Some of the sections don't fit or flow into each other at all. And Tom's voice has not aged well at all.

I just saw them a few nights ago in Camden. The show was really awesome although it felt super short. Travis' drum solo in the air stole the night.

My sister was there, lol.

Deluxe version isn't some online exclusive thing, right? Want to cash in some Best Buy certificates for it. New Wilco the same day is nice too.

I've been a fan of Blink 182 for a long time, and even I'm not liking this album. Does it sound good? Sure. Is it typical Blink 182? No.

Look back at the previous Blink 182 albums as a whole. Usually a good mix of Tom and Mark tracks. Tom track. Mark track. Tom and Mark track. Two Tom tracks. Two Mark tracks. Etc. It was a nice balance.

I noticed with the Self Titled album in 2003, it has a majority of tracks with Tom singing. It's the same with this one, if not worse. It sounds like Angels and Airwaves, and it feels Tom is monopolizing the tracks.

Just my 2cents. Take it for what it is.
