[Bloomberg]Sony gives underwhelming outlook. DFC Intelligence's David Cole says "The delay in GTA VI is a real blow to the PS5."

You cant see thw difference in paying to fund a game sb or lending an engine like Playstation did for death stranding VS xbox using microsoft money to buy Activision to keep cod from releasing on PlayStation when xbox was going to get that game anyway?
Sony pays a studio to not relase on Xbox. Xbox buys a studio to not relase on playstation. Same means, different ends.

Sony pays a studio to not relase on Xbox. Xbox buys a studio to not relase on playstation. Same means, different ends.

Not exactly the same.

Historically Sony offered deals in royalties, fund development, technical support, even money sometimes etc to get some exclusive games.

Usually this was done when game runs were limited by their phisical print and didn't survive long after release date.

And usually were temporary things. Many PlayStation exclusives ended up in another system years later. Resident Evil 1 ended up in the Sega Saturn, RE2 in Nintendo 64, there were PC ports of FFVII and VIII, MGS 2 in the Xbox, GTA3 and San Andreas on Xbox, Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver on Dreamcast. Hell, Sony even ported some games as Wipeout and Krazy Ivan to the Saturn and N64. FF XI on X360, etc. It gained mindshare for being first and in PS, but many games eventually made it to other platforms.

Now things are different, it's nearly impossible to get a TP exclusivity deal because all want to have their games uploaded in any store that grants some long term sales. Through the usual means as funding development Sony has managed many console exclusives, but temporal... KENA, Death loop, Ghost wire Tokyo, FIST, SIFU, FFXVI, Silent Hill 2, etc. But eventually the terms of these agreements end and games are released everywhere.

Buying whole publishers with MS matrix money from outside video games is something in a totally different level. Luckily Karma is a bitch and their moves and spending and good sales of PS5 have forced their hand.

I really wish people would stop gassing those mediocre damn games from Rockstar. The whole industry comes to a halt to worship a bunch of middling mechanics that haven't evolved from the early-2000s.
If GTA or RDR are "mediocre damn games", I'm really dying to know what games do you consider great.

its a legit stance If you are a gameplay focused gamer imo.
I mean, feel free to like or dislike any game. I'm not the one calling on people to stop "gassing" games, even though 90% of recent AAA games feel like complete shit to me when compared to GTA or RDR. Also, I'm genuinly wondering what games he considers great.

Those games have great presentation, tech, and production values. The gameplay is straight trash. They're jack-of-all trades that do almost nothing above-average, let alone great gameplay-wise.

:messenger_tears_of_joy: okay, you seem to be repeating yourself... that's like your opinion, you know. And like I wrote before, I'm really curious to know what games do you consider great, then?

Yeah, no shit that's my opinion?
You are acting as if gameplay in those games was objectively trash, so not sure why are you surprised when I point it out.
Yeah, no shit that's my opinion?

Ninja Gaiden Black, Bloodborne, both Ori games, Super Mario 64, Half-Life 2, Baldur's Gate 3, and more.
Well, from that list I find Ninja Gaiden, Ori or Super Mario extra boring, and still I'm not saying they're mediocre games with trash gameplay.

Spot on opinion, I've always felt the same about GTA and rdr most boring overrated games that I've ever played.
I can see why they're popular though

Do I need to spell it out it's my opinion when it's me typing those posts?

Because while you can find them boring, you cannot deny the intricacies and depth of their mechanics and that they are masterclass at what they do when they come to the playing part. I don't care one bit for TLOU2, but there's no denying the gunplay, stealth, and encounter design are top class. GTA? Bah. Jack-of-all-trades. I also wish it would stop clashing with itself. It's the poster child for open-ended and open world design, but the missions are still the gaming equivalent of walking through a corridor.

GTA is a major game, but a ton of stuff is releasing in the coming months. Every dev that thought they might have to compete with GTA is probably very happy. And gamers might not get their number one most wanted but enough stuff should serve as a substitute.
On the other hand once GTA is released a lot of other sales will go down, since everyone will not have time for some weeks or months to play anything else and that is a "real blow to PS5" as well.

I get it too. The games are easy to pick up and play for everyone and just dicking around in the city and starting shit can be fun, but the way it's been elevated as some kind of masterpiece that halts the gaming world from spinning is one of the biggest psyops I've ever seen. GTA has been quite popular since GTA III and even at the time was the most famous open world, but for some reason, GTA V with its monster sales and online propelled the franchise to some mythical status it never had before when games like San Andreas were arguably more impressive for their time.

Yeah it's like you say, presentation is outstanding, it's well written, sounds amazing and gameplay is simply go from point a to b, watch cut scene, progress mission.
Its very easy to play and pick up, so I can see the appeal.

I seen your list of games there too, your taste is impeccable, and more what I would call masterpiece games

The impact of GT6 delay is being overblown. Its still this FY. At the same time, Xbox is moving its games over, the year is packed with great games.

Unless, it comes to PC now at that time. That's a huge blow.

Well, you came into the thread saying you wish people stopped gassing up those games, acting like they are objectively mediocre or something. So again, don't be surprised when I point out it's just your opinion.

You say GTA and RDR have mechanics that didn't evolve at all, which just is not true. For example, NPC simulation and reactions, driving, horse mechanics and physics as a whole have evolved a lot. Not sure why every aspect of those games should be a sandbox. The combination of linear, cinematic story set in a huge, detailed open-world with lots of meaningful side content works great for me and a lot of other people, it seems.

Psyops :messenger_tears_of_joy: Do you ever listen to yourself?

It still utterly baffles me how one fucking game could be this big and popular lol. Kudos to them and its fans but good lord do I not get it. Then again, I've never played GTA Online so maybe that's fun as hell.

Psyops :messenger_tears_of_joy: Do you ever listen to yourself?
I think it's the appropriate term. The media and talking heads have turned this game into something it never was. As I said before, GTA San Andreas was arguably the most influential one in the series outside of the obvious III that moved the franchise to 3D. It didn't completely stop the gaming world from moving.

Not praising eveything you buy just to save the face is called "not having 5 years old anymore".

Nobody knew that sony was about to be THIS shit this gen.

Maybe i should start calling you nostradanial.
Spending $800 on a console only to complain about wasting your money a month later is the definition of retarded.
It's not like you haven't been bitching about Sony for months before that, just admit that you couldn't keep yourself from consooming.
And you know I'm talking about the PS5 Pro, if you already hated the PS5 in the first place, you had no reason to even buy it.

It would certainly have helped if companies like Bend and Bluepoint had games readay to go in 2025 instead of dealing with their gaas game getting canceled.

Not even sure if it can be fathomed. GTA5 sold 215 million copies. The scale here is totally unseen not just in videogames but all entertainment.

People are also whining about the Switch 2 lineup after they bought it lol.

I bought a PS5 Pro because I like the PS5 but it seems like people who don't like the PS5 wanted to buy it just to... not like it more? Gamers, I don't understand.

I always been in favour of a pro console because i like to play my games at their best, it doesn't mean that i can't talk shit ilf something is wrong.

Constantly defending a multi-billion company in a public forum that is not a circle jerk where people only have positive opinions without being paid like you do sound 10x times more retarded tbh, i guess you need a retard to identify another one :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

It is good to know that we live rent free in your head tho🕺

You're reading what you want to read when I never even stated something like that.
What does telling you that mindlessly consooming is stupid have to do with defending a corporation?

Dude please, you can throw the mask off, you are not fooling anyone.

You should not give any fucks about what the "haters" say or do with their money like i don't give a fuck about people talking shit about any console.

It's actually a 920 euros scam in europe but i payed much less because i gave my ps5 and a lot of games to gamestop for a huge discount :messenger_blowing_kiss:
Goymers consooming shit without questioning it is a truly alien concept for me. Normally, I wait for the product to justify itself before purchasing it, not after doing so.

What wasn't clear when i said that i like to play my games in their best form and i was always in favour of a pro console? Ps4 pro was also a middling upgrade, but i still enjoyed playing games a bit better than a hobo ps4.

That's why you pay for a high end gpu instead of a mid one on pc (like i did)

If i can play a couple of good ps5 exclusives and gta6 better than a hobo ps5, the console pays fro itself.

And of course it is gonna be valued more when at gs when i'm ginna buy a ps6 if it is not a portable.

Be honest, is that truly enough to justify it when you already knew that Sony's first-party games for next year wouldn't have been to your liking?
If not, welp, just proving my point. I know that's why you pay for a high end GPU every single year, but I don't see that as a good thing (though at least those people are honest in that they just want better tech and nothing else).

Dude i bought consoles for like 2-3 games total in the past (gc, switch, future switch 2 comes to mind) hell since i re-started playing on pc i only bought a couple of games per console lifespan...not ideal but it is what it is, also at the start or even in the middle of a gen you can't really say if a publisher is gonna suck hard, you have never an idea of what sony could show at every given moment, the moment before you have no games, a moment later they announce tlou3, days gone 2 and another 3 big titles.

Also, almost nobody pay every year for a high end gpu, you buy an high end gpu exactly to not spend money every year, my 4080 can still play 99% of games at 4k dlss quality 60\120 if i adjust some minor setting from ultra to very high or high and i'm not gonna need another gpu until series 6000.

You could tell me to wait until everything comes to pc, but i'm not the type of player that is ok with waiting years to play a game i like, if you are an hardcore football fan you are not gonna wait the end of the year to watch all the matches, you are gonna watch it live on tv or at the stadium.

You bought them before or after those games were out? Notable difference.
GC before, switch after, switch 2 probably after.
I needed to see some prolonged zelda gameplay to convince my ass, but i knew i was about to love 3 new exclusive resident evil games and a freakin mgs1 remake (boy i was wrong for the remake).

I don't need to wait to know that i'm gonna enjoy sony games (usually).

Ok, if you buy a PS5 Pro knowing that just enhancing your games for the time being was good, while the known 2025 first-party lineup (Lost Soul Aside, Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, Convallaria, etc.) wasn't to your liking, then how is it even a scam...?

"Scam" for a number of reasons:

selling the disc players separately
much higher price in europe (i know it's kinda normal but as a final client i don't have to feel good about it)
price too high for the actual upgrade
unbalanced upgrade

I still bought it because like i said, i want to play my games in their best form, but i'm not super happy with it, maybe when i'm finally gonna use it for something with a great pro patch i'm gonna change my mind, for now it has been barely used at all, ds2 and sushi 2 are gonna be my real first pro experience.

Now sorry but i have other things to do so i'm not gonna be able to answer in brief times.

You don't see how more successful revenue generating games instead of sunk cost cancelled stuff would be helpful?
