What are we talking about? How old we were when Transformers came out?

I was 25. Bobby was already older than all of you complaining about being old are right now. Ghaleon was probably getting his senior citizen's discount in 2007 :p
I was 13 which was pretty much the perfect age for it.

Have they said anything about what the spin-offs will be about aside from an animated movie and a Bumblebee movie in the 80's(apparently???)?

I can see that.

I don't know what the equivalent film would be for my age group. I want to say Independence Day, but that was way bigger than Transformers for the era. We weren't getting so many big spectacle blockbusters on a yearly basis in the mid 90s. I remember that me and my friends were hyped for Dragonheart when I was in Grade 8, because extensive CGI was still sort of rare. Something like the dragon in that film was still novel.

China, save us, please.

Oh, it's still going to make a ton of cash in China. Presales just don't scream $400M+

More like $275-325M. We'll see though. There's still 3 days left until it debuts there, and it might have better than typical legs given the time of year and the Chinese release slate.

As per the Mummy losing money article from Deadline, industry tracking for Despicable Me 3 is $95-100M on its opening weekend in 2 weeks.

I was 4 !

Transformers: The Movie. Also, after rewatching it recently: it's really not very good. The soundtrack is though.

It's kind of terrible. That thing is better left locked up in your childhood memories. Truthfully there has never been a good TF movie. Maybe that's what you get when you try to make a film out of a franchise designed to sell kids' toys.

I'm the same age as you, aw sheeit

Ha, absolutely, it'll still make bank in China. I'll take my teeny-tiny victories!

ID4 actually does seem like the appropriate analogue for TF1. I remember following a DVD sales thread where a user posted US DVD sales and TF1 had the sixth highest sales, eventually climbing to #5 post Revenge of the Fallen. I'll try to find the thread, because that had some pretty interesting info.

The number that really sticks out to me is Narnia, because of how badly the sequel fell on its face.

Yes from Minions. DM2 opened on a Wednesday, so it's first weekend was technically $83.5M. However, it had a huge 5-day opening of $143M.

Dude, I just posted that like 3 minutes before you responded.

Are you just casually walking around with those figures in your head?! 😦😦😦

I mean that's because Star Wars is stupid

Also I told everyone in China (we're all great friends, you know) to not like it
You don't get to a billion friends without making a few enemies.

As per the Mummy losing money article from Deadline, industry tracking for Despicable Me 3 is $95-100M on its opening weekend in 2 weeks.
The phrasing Deadline is using is making me wonder if they're actually talking about a 3-day opening: "Despicable Me 3 is opening on June 30 and industry estimates for that Illumination Entertainment movie are between $95M-$100M opening for the July 4th stretch." July 4th would be its fifth day, and that may explain why they posted that it was tracking for an $85-90M opening weekend literally yesterday.

Interesting. Thanks for posting that. I was surprised that a few films like Titanic were absent, but I suppose that late 90s/early 00s films would be at a disadvantage, since VHS was still going strong.

300 is also crazy high given the domestic gross.

Dude, I just posted that like 3 minutes before you responded.

I think that I saw that post as soon as it was posted, but I do have ballpark domestic totals and opening weekends for most big films of the past decade or so in my head. If it is something that comes up frequently, than I might know the figure within the nearest $1M or so.

So, I typically already know what the answer is to questions like yours without checking. I type up my response, take 30 seconds to grab any specific numbers I am not sure of off BOM, and post :p

That makes sense. I never bother to read Deadline write ups to weekend numbers, so I missed that. Thanks.

Got my tickets for Transformers 5 The Last Knight starring Academy Award winning actor Anthony Hopkins (Filmed with IMAX 3D cameras) for this Saturday in IMAX3D. My body is ready. The altar of Bay must be filled with blood offerings!

Waiting all the way until Saturday?

You're lagging here.

don't forget Academy Award nominated Mark Wahlberg too.

LOL Are you serious?

Unfortunately so:

The decision, voted on Thursday, was made after they discovered that Russell had called his fellow members of the Sound Branch during the nominations phase to make them aware of his work on the film, which is a direct violation of a campaign regulation that prohibits telephone lobbying.

Apparently it's not an entirely irregular occurrence to have nominations revoked either:

I know you mean this as a joke, but I do believe that Boogie Nights is his best role and he wholly deserved the nomination for that movie.

EDIT: My bad, I mixed that up with The Departed. Still, BN is his best performance and movie.

This will probably be the first Transformers I don't see in the theater.

I just don't think I can do it anymore.

I'm not joking bruv. I love him in both movies.

I think he's got such good screen presence when he's playing the clueless loud idiot

Watch I heart Huckabees too if you haven't

Edit: he was basically in dirk diggler mode in pain and gain too haha
