Borderlands 2 Vita |OT| 870 gajillion guns in your pockets

thats retarded. why not give the option to split the front touch to 4 buttons or just give some dang virtual buttons? Those worked ok for unit 51.

This I DO NOT get it.

Back touch is so shitty in every implementation basically ever besides a cute gimmick a couple of times in tearaway.

Hell I put a bunch of athletic tape over my back touch pad so it no longer registers when I accidentally touch it.

I had borderlands 2 pre ordered for vita and was very very excited. Due to this nonsense I canceled, and don't even have interest even if it was free due to back touch.

If I have progress on PS3 and start playing on Vita before cross-save is added, will my data on Vita be wiped or will it merge the two saves together? Like if I make a new Vita character and then want to merge, will my badass rank be updated to reflect the time put in on Vita or do I have to abandon my Vita save for my PS3 save?

Pretty sure you'd have to give up your Vita save but not sure

On PS3 every character is a separate save file I believe, so I think it should be fine.

I'm not sure how bad ass points work though.

How often do you use weapon swap in BL2? I never used it because all 4 dpad directions provide easier access to whatever weapon I want. How often do you use crouch in BL2? Not often enough to be a big deal.

Not sure why this is a "fuck Sony I'm cancelling my preorder" level of issue. There are two buttons you barely ever use in this series, so just map those 2 buttons to the back like others have suggested.

It honestly doesn't sound like you were very excited about your preorder at all.

I also mapped the crouch button and weapon swap to the reach touchpad, since I rarely use those buttons. Since I'm using Kreig, having the the melee attacks configured to a face button works pretty well. I never liked mashing the R3 button for melee in the console versions.

Overall, I'm fairly impressed with the port. Can't wait for the cross save patched to be implemented. I'm curious how balanced the game is with a second player, tho, since I've mostly encountered 3 enemies at a time.

So I'm assuming that the cross-save patch will be up for the retail release stateside? Is that this Tuesday coming?

I'm just hoping that it's there in time for the EU release.

Nothing has been officially announced I don't think, but that's what lots are hoping.

I have it installed with all the DLC at 5352 MBs

You can pick and choose what DLC to download though

I'm waiting for physical for this very reason. 3.5 GB savings of the base game doesn't sound like a lot but with Vita memory sizes, it absolutely is a huge chunk...

It might even be more than 3.5GB savings if the initial burst of DLC is included on the cartridge.

Yeah I just got my Vita with this bundle but bought a 64GB card in prep for it. So far have used 34GB of that on just games :\

Thx. It looks to be getting a favorable response here. I was originally day 1 then with the lack of media it dropped off my radar.

The port is pretty good. Framerate and controls are only sticking points. I find the framerate fine from what I've seen although I haven't played too much. controls are okay if you're willing to marginalize crouch and the non-dpad weapon swap. Would've been perfect had they done 4 quadrants on the touch screen though :(

I think maybe some people are coming from the PC version (or maybe the 360 version if it was noticeably superior to PS3) of Borderlands or something. Others who were used to the PS3 version seem to think the framerate is almost the same between them.

There's no way.

I haven't (360), but I simply can't imagine that holding true. I'll download my free ps+ copy tonight and compare.

Forcing back touch controls on the game means I either

A. Can't play it because I'm constantly bumping the back touch fucking things up.

or

B. Have to hold the vita in such an awkward manner than my hands hurt more in 5 minutes of game playing than they do after hours at the gym lifting weights or hours gardening.

And I was super excited for this game, I was so excited that despite being halfway through the game on 360 I sold that copy of the game because I thought it was a perfect game to play on the vita. I've had the thing preordered since the week amazon had pre orders.

So you may not think it's a big deal, but it means I literally can not play the game.

Do you ever need to crouch or use the quick weapons switch buttons? I sure don't. Map those to the back and use your athletic tape again.

Sound like you're in desperate need of a grip for your vita to me mate! Would solve all your problems.

The Mechromancer looks so awesome! Anything to keep in mind before starting with her? How does she play?

It's been some months since I played (have a lvl 72 Gaige), so I don't know if something changed, but
my girl
Gaige's most iconic skill (apart from her action-skill Deathtrap) is Anarchy.

Having anarchy (a passive skill), every time you kill an enemy or your weapon is reloaded automatically (so, by emptying the clip), you gain 1 anarchy stack. Each stack raises your damage and decreases your accuracy. Don't remember the %, but might be something like 1%. And if you manually reload or die, you lose all of your stacks.

Anarchy stacks cap at 150 (there's a skill that ups this cap), so you'll do a lot more damage and your shots will go who knos where. But then there's a skill called "Close Enough", which makes your shots ricochet on the ground/walls, and if they then hit someone (or was it a guaranteed hit after the ricochet? I forgot), they'll do 50% damage (they can crit too). So, if you miss, you might still hit stuff, and the 50% damage reduced gets compensated by the anarchy damage bonus. It works nicely with shotguns and SMGs.

That's the basic explanation for what, I think, is her most common playstyle. Gaige support more playstyles, of course (like focusing on making Deathtrap a total beast), but it would be lenghty to type them out and I can't link you some other builds right now (there's plenty on the gearbox forums). And since you can respec your skills freely, you can always experiment stuff.

And I probably wrote too much to say too little, my bad~

The mechromancer is a double edged sword if you don't go for only beefing up deathtrap. Anarchy increases damage but completely destroys accuracy. You can take the first anarchy perk without lowering your magazine size, but any more than that will make it impossible to equip Infinity, which is easily the most overpowered pistol in the hands of a mechromancer. However, there is an extremely rare random drop toolbox for Gaige that increases magazine size so that you can go absolutely crazy with the Anarchy perks if you equip Infinity. If you can find one that increases magazine size, boost your stacks to like 250 or higher with Infinity every time you die, then you can equip a shotgun with lots of pellets and destroy absolutely everything. At 66 stacks you do double damage, and an extra 1.5% for every stack.

You get stacks for killing or using a clip.

So basically, if you like shotguns, don't mind getting up close, and can find the proper toolbox, gaige becomes the easiest solo character hands down. Otherwise, the easiest one to kill super bosses with is kreig.

Additionally, if you get knocked down and deathtrap kills something halfway across the map, it counts as a second chance. So that's pretty awesome.

Personally I've only played BL2 on 360 with my brother and do think the framerate is noticeably worse than that experience. No idea how it compares to PS3 but I would expect it to be a bit worse. I think more importantly though I haven't had any issues playing the game yet because of it. Doesn't seem like a Bayonetta or even Skyrim port to me. Seems perfectly playable

Digital Foundry (and my own experience) suggests that the PS3 is 2-5 frames behind the 360 version at times. So that could well have something to do with it.

You're talking about the Infinity, right? Or did the Dove make a comeback?

Yep, my bad.

Edit: I think a patch may have made Infinity no longer add stacks to gaige, but it's still great for making sure you don't accidentally lose your stacks if that is so.

Finally pulled the trigger and bought a Vita 2000 bundle, traded in my old vita for it. Now to try this game in 30 hours when it finishes downloading. Also loving the vita 2000, couldn't hit the rear touchpad accidentally any more even if I wanted to.

Buy a nyko power grip if it'll fit the 2000.

I sucked six dicks to get this tag.
Played some more today and man still can't believe how good this game looks on vita. Borderlands art style absolutely just shines on DAT OLED. Also my coworker picked up a BL2 bundle so I seen how it looked on dat lcd and I have to say it still looked pretty damn good. Not as good as dat oled but still good.

Had a slight problem today. That
captain flynt boss fight
when the fire activates everywhere makes the framerate just YIKES. Not quite MGS3DS bad, but I was so happy when the fire stops.

I neither feel like I fuck things up, nor do I feel uncomfortable when holding the Vita... and I use default controls with Sprint and melee on back. If it helps at all, my method includes curling my middle fingers naturally around the back so they are off the touch pad and then simply extending them when needed.

There is nothing uncomfortable about it, but i can see it maybe taking an hour or so to get used to if you haven't played any other game like that. My Vita experience before hand was very limited, just to put it in a little perspective.

You play the Vita without any sort of gaming grip on it? The original Vita? I can't seem to do that. It makes my hands hurt after awhile even when I don't have to worry about the back touch panel.

So am I the only one getting sound glitches when jumping or meleeing?
Like occasionally the grunt will come out after the action in question has completed?

I'm in the same boat. OG Vita. tough to hold because of the weight, and even tougher to not touch the rear pad. Great game, though. Can't believe I'm playing it portable.

So, seeing as how reviews are nowhere in sight, I guess I'll just ask those of you who have it; is it worth picking up as more than just a novelty? Does it feel like it belongs on the Vita? I'm having a hard time telling if I'd want to play this as a replacement to the PS3 version or not.

Get it, great on Vita and worth the money I think, you will use your Vita for days or weeks. hehe Sometimes I just stop just to see how good the game looks and smile at the fact that I am playing it on my Vita, no bullshit. Oh and another thing, the enemy count is just fine, these mother fuckers be everywhere.

It's pretty good, however the frame rate has a real tendency to go to shit during boss battles (and walking around in Sanctuary).
