Borderlands 4 |OT| It's about time. Literally.

Definitely. I had low expectations after BL3 and Wonderlands and I'm pleasantly surprised. The writing/dialog isn't a masterpiece but it's like freaking Citizen Kane compared to BL3
It's really more of a condemnation of Wonderlands being a full priced game.
As a Borderlands super fan (who loved the Pre Sequel), I couldn't play more than a few hours of Wonderlands. Just terrible.
I can't stop playing BL4. Its magnificent.

the problem with Wonderlands was Borderlands 3

imo Borderlands 3 burned everyone out and made a major hit on the franchise , i m like you, i played every Borderlands for 100+ hours but i could not pass Wonderlands tutorial, i was just too burned out by 3.

Getting an average of 52fps with med/high settings and DLSS quality, 1440p 4080 laptop. Not terrible compared to desktops around the same tier, but god the fluctuations.

its your first Borderlands ?
I played all of them, I don't know the missions so far are all glorified fetch quests, loots spam everywhere I stopped caring except picking up higher level weapon after leveling up. The game design didn't seem to evolve at all, I don't remember it being this bland.

Is there any way to change the character midgame papitos?

I am playing with the big guy and I dont like him his voice acting is terrible

There is a learning curve but once you have mastered the new movement mechanics, it really is outstanding.

Graphics look flat and colourless

Playing performance mode on Series X and frame rate is mostly stable with hitches and pauses.

Gameplay is fun but the tone and style of combat is very different than previous borderlands.

Menus are a pain to use and the lag when in menus sucks.

I think there is a good game here that needs some polish and QOL updates

yep, its Borderlands

Anyone else seeing a bug during a side quest where pewpew's health gets down to 1/5 and then he stops taking damage and just stops moving?

edit: Came back a few hours later and it finally worked correctly

Still really enjoying it, but performance remains sketchy on PS5.

The horde missions, where you activate the propaganda tower and have to defend the little robot dude are noticeably poor.

Frames dropping into the 30s, if not below.

I also think there's something odd doing on with variable frame rates at different distances. Mobs far away look like they're animated in slow motion.

they are super OP and its his best skill tree atm, but i agree with you that they are kinda boring, if you want a more "dynamic" skill with him it ll be his melee one
The melee one seems only useful for slow big enemies. They miss so easily and have no auto lock function.

Halo 5 had that as well. But more games have that.

This shit is crashing CONSTANTLY on my 5090FE/9800X3D at 4k setup. Like, I'm lucky if I get 10 min of consistent playtime before Unreal crashes the game. I have no idea what else I can do to minimize the crashing. The game maxed out at 4k/DLSS on Quality hits 60ish fps outdoors. I'm using Frame gen x2 to get it up to 90fps and it feels and looks the exact same. Is there anything else I can try to do to minimize these crashes so I can actually play the game for more than 20 minutes? Did anyone have similar problems and fix it?

Just crashed for me (9800X3D/3090 at 4K). They just need to patch this.

Ugh, I'm so exhausted of PC releases of games. Such half assed optimization where devs rely on dlss/frame gen to even get consistently good fps instead of just working on making sure the game runs well enough on its own. They need to put out a patch this week asap this shit is unbearable.

I got the bank! I can finally store my 2 legendries. Level 11 finally getting the hang of the open world, I stopped using the tracking option so much and just use the compass to head out into the wild and see what there is to see.
I saw a drill machine pop up out of the ground and spit out some enemies to fight. :)

edit-I've not had any performance issues or crashes. I have a RTX 4070 and a 13700F. I've also not yet played online. offline only, I wonder if staying offline is why I've not had any crashes yet.

17 hours played so far and i crashed 0 times so dunno whats up with your game

Gameplay is really fun. Dunno how they fixed the stuttering, but im speeding with my bike at insane speed and no sutters or fps drops. Yeah game shouldnt be this heavy on GPU's, but if you have a good PC this runs smoothly atleast

Papitos I must be honest. I am finding this game very bland so far. Maybe the game is better playing coop with a friend, I dont know but I am a little bit bored. I hope my mind changes after some more time playing

Yeah based on early reports I was expecting a stuttering mess no matter what hardware you had. But on my (admittedly very high end) PC it has been quite smooth with everything maxed.

On my 5090 (set to 90% power limit) + 9800X3D 4K ultra settings, with DLSS Quality + 2X frame gen, it mostly stays at 120 FPS with some dips to ~90 when there's lots going on.

Also tried DLSS Performance + 4x frame gen just for shits and giggles. It still looks + plays surprisingly well and my GPU stays around 50 degrees.

It was a stuttering mess on streams pre release even in combat so the early reports were right. Somehow they managed to fix it with the day 1 update

That's where I'm at. Tried 3 different classes and I'm just not feeling it.

Like a post above said it's all just bad generic quest design, loot feels awful in this, and the games performance doesn't help.

The combat feels good, but the game seems to get in the way of the player being able to enjoy it with various design elements.

I've got one more session in me then I'm looking to play something in my back log until silent hill f.

The side quest do get better just in middle really good one from shift I think he is called. level 14 really enjoying the game and story does seem semi decent.

Is the intro to this game really long or something?

I swear I played quite a long time last night and still have yet to come across any sort of "hub" where there are NPC's or vending machines. Maybe I'm on the cusp or something, I'm doing shit for Claptrap and just killed some boss guy and got my ability to glide or whatever.

Can someone explain to me the benefits of "matchmaking" ? Can I play with random? Any negatives? I just am level 7 so wondering because I love PvE online games but I have been playing alone on my own so far

lol wait so you've been arguing in defense of this game and haven't even fucking played it?

Bro kindly STFU. Christ.

First of all, UE5 unification was, maybe, the biggest single mistake in the history of AAA industry. This engine never ceases to amaze me of how broken things can be on every platform possible. Despite the fact that it was tackled by different devs with different level of expertise and art-style, traversal stutters, temporal artifacts and choppy FPS are almost always a solid trademarks of UE5 launches.

In BL4 specifically for me it's mostly FPS pacing and stability that are in the toilet (RTX 4080, Ryzen 7700x) though the game itslef is stable even with alt-tabbing. I guess crashes are driver-related because I usually use 1 or 2 versions behind the update curve for stability's sake.

That being said, the game is legit fun with stupendous amount of content and very fun and impactful shooting. Co-op is silky-smooth, including the cross-play. To huge surpruse. Openworld is enormous, interconnected and well thought-out, with enough fun arenas to shoot around and spaces large enough to use vehicles.

The game itself is more Destiny than Destiny, especially in traversal department, and I think it's a good thing. There's also a much darker tone in the overall plot and presentation, though cringe jokes are still there in side content. And I don't think that I'm against them in small portions.

For now, If you don't have an urge to spend 400 hours in co-op with your mates, you should realy put your purchase decision on hold and wait for a month or two for Gearbox to sort out typical UE5 mess of a spaghetti code. Otherwise, it's more (a lot more) Borderlands refined in all the right places with all the right lessons learned from BL3.

I've been doing sidequests literally all day, the world is huge in this game
I'm also drenched in sweat from all the heat my RTX 3090 is putting out

<3 my bad. I thought you had not played it at all and had formed an opinion.

My mistake. I'm a retard.

You are close to the first safehouse type area. Keep going.

all fine, my mistake lead you to your assumption, i always read at least 2x to see if i didn't misspelled something, but once in a while I let something slip by.

At the start of the console generation with that UE5 trailer it looked so promising. But I do recall DF back then saying this engine would be very taxing on console hardware, but it seems not only the consoles.

I really wonder how something like Witcher 4 will turn out. I honestly wish that dev had stuck with the engine they had, but alas. Hopefully it all works out, but.....

Same as me - Counted about 18 crashlogs for it

Full reboot normally gets me a long session - once it crashes though it's pretty constant as if its holding a handle or process which a full reboot seems to release.

Looking at the logs it looks like a driver issue ( I'm on the latest )

I hate to say it but you have to play this on quality mode on ps5.

Without it the game is just too hard to identify things on screen.

Is there no pro uplifts? I'd settle for a 40fps mode if possible with pssr on my 120hz tv.

I also think this game desperately needs an option to red highlight enemies. With the low resolution blurry mess it's just too hard to identify enemies or their heads from anything that isn't close distance.

Yeahh these games are made for coop if you're playing solo it's gonnah be boring.

Also though I can't go 5 minutes without someone getting kicked back to main menu 😵

Nah, played every Borderlands solo and Coop, Coop is fun, but solo is the way to play at least the first time.

I have the same setup, except I'm using ultrawide, and have the same issue. Game crashes constantly. I did a clean install of the latest Nvidia driver and was able to play for a couple hours without a crash. Give that a try. Game is a technical mess.

Why would they move the original release date forward a few weeks with the game launching in this technical state?

I saw one of the trailers again and they show these very vibrant, colorful green landscape and none of the footage I've seen so far looks like that.

I do hope they clean up the UI, the inventory gets irritating when I want to replace a gun, I have to always recheck weapon type filter. It needs to stop resetting the filters every time I go in.
Also, the compare window will often be OVER the thing I'm trying to compare. Just put them side by side. Geesh.
I went into the map and selected legend. It alows you to turn off things. I turned off all the green completed marks, it helped clean up the map a bit. Points of interest however are still marked point of interest even after I visit them. :(

Still no crashes or performance issues at the 10-hour mark of paying.
