Borderlands 4 |OT| It's about time. Literally.

Oof it's crashing frequently for me today. 21 hours in so far though.
I hope they can release a patch soon

Edit: just ran into another side quest that seems to be stuck from progressing…

anyone else find the way points at the top a nightmare? It never seems to point to the right thing and they all look the same blue to me

Just played a few hours and have to say I'm not a fan of the UI especially the backpack and inventory one. It seems messy and kinda hard to see (for me) if anything is actually better?

Might just need to get used to it I guess. Also had no idea I could upgrade the backpack storage from the pause menu until right at the end of my sesh

This shit is crashing CONSTANTLY on my 5090FE/9800X3D at 4k setup. Like, I'm lucky if I get 10 min of consistent playtime before Unreal crashes the game. I have no idea what else I can do to minimize the crashing. The game maxed out at 4k/DLSS on Quality hits 60ish fps outdoors. I'm using Frame gen x2 to get it up to 90fps and it feels and looks the exact same. Is there anything else I can try to do to minimize these crashes so I can actually play the game for more than 20 minutes? Did anyone have similar problems and fix it?

Just crashed for me (9800X3D/3090 at 4K). They just need to patch this.
Also MSI 5090/9800x3d and crashes all the time anywhere from 1 min in to 5 min in.

Did they just release a patch? I just got a small update on Steam for BL4...
Also, why are the forums for BL4 on Steam locked by the devs? I've never seen that before...

Also, to turn off mouse smoothing

Documents > My Games > Borderlands 4 > Saved > Config > Windows > GameUserSettings.ini

add this to the bottom and save.
If it doesn't work put caps for the start of each word in ScriptEngine etc. Steam is formatting it weird.

[/script/engine.inputsettings]
EnableMouseSmoothing=False
ViewAccelerationEnabled=False

If I decide to skip this one, which one of the older game should I play?

DLSS / FSR has made developers beyond lazy. Lay them all off. We barely need them. This is why AI is taking their jobs. I'm not sure why they are complaining that it's taking their jobs when they lean on it so hard to do the leg work for the game engine. Gone are the days of optimization.

At the start of the console generation with that UE5 trailer it looked so promising. But I do recall DF back then saying this engine would be very taxing on console hardware, but it seems not only the consoles.

I really wonder how something like Witcher 4 will turn out. I honestly wish that dev had stuck with the engine they had, but alas. Hopefully it all works out, but.....
CDPR is most likely using Unreal Engine 5.6 which has a lot of performance enhancements over the games using UE 5 now. On top of that, they have a lot of technical mastery from working on their own engine so they should know how to get performance out.

Played about an hour on PS5. It's definitely Borderlands. Gearbox as a whole has never truly amazed me, even though Borderlands is probably their best IP. It's fun for what it is, a looter shooter.

Been at main menu for a few minutes and it can't even load in the textures for my character. This happens in game often on ps5 pro just low poly blur and constantly popping in texture details.

This is the worst optimized game of 2025 for all platforms.

Can't believe they were going to charge $80 for this. I don't see 100 patches fixing this games unacceptable performance.

Mine crashed again after the update. I then deleted the shader cache and had the game rebuild it and so far after 15 minutes no crash. I am seeing a very small stutters when its loading new shaders which wasn't happening before so I believe the crashing issues is with the shaders.

I knew something felt off, thought it was DLSS or MFG.

You'll get better guns as you go.

I should not have redeemed the gift rewards thing so soon, I dont' have the bank option yet and I'm stuck carring a couple of Legendaries I can't use till I get to their level. :(
Just found out to get rid of them and had to find your post again.
On PC: mark the weapons with right click and select bank. Then hold V and it'll send those fuckers away.

What the fuck…. I crashed 4 times in 20 minutes. Gonna try this and see if it helps

EDIT: yeah that fixed it. instructions here https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3155144200

One thing I dislike is bodies dissapearing so fast. When you clear an area with enemies, everything looks clean and empty, it doesn't look like a battlefield. For a shooter game it feels pretty weird

The patch doesn't seem to have changed anything for me… hopefully we can get a bigger/better one

The game is a ton of fun though, possible GOTY contender

How's the console performance, fellow peasants/

I'm gonna find out later today, on my series X. But someone on XboxEra said that performance mode shows screen tearing, but I didn't hear that from some other Xbox players. Screen tearing in fucking 2025 would be absolutely ridiculous.

But I recall AC Valhalla had this too unless you had VRR enabled.

PS5 Pro, 60fps for the first 30 minutes - then starts chugging down to sub 30fps. A restart every 30 minutes solves it. Memory leak issue most likely.

Wonder if Xbox suffers from this too. With restart you mean just closing the game and booting it up again or console restart?

No need to even quit the game! What I mean was quitting the session (start --> quit to menu) then continue your run!

XSX.

Shockingly poor default control settings. Seriously, beggars belief.

New movement options are great.

Thumb sore from hitting x to open all the containers - a truly borderlands experience.

Performance is all over the place, and fairy poor in large open areas. Disappointing, otherwise this could be quite a good offering!

Agreed amigo, and then I saw this and tried it. This works SO much better.

Oh man, as a big fan of when guns sound powerful and with a good bass, this shit is weak as hell. Maybe later guns will have some oomph to them sound wise but the starting guns sound weak as fuck.
