I do have a friend who goes to UFRJ (Doctor's Degree) though. In fact, we live together in Niterói.

I've been wanting to post here for a while, but kept stalling myself. I guess this is it, then. Sup guys, what's up. When I learnt that some posters that I've saw while lurking here were brazilian I can't deny that I was surprised.

Just had to check out and found out that Ratos (the only one I know from those, lol) is still active - and launching new studio albums too. They're out of my musical preferences nowadays, but nice to see them still going.

Hi Brazil-GAF. I only dropped in to say 'hi' and let you guys know that Brasil truly has some of the best punkbands around. Ratos de Porao, Colera, Olho Seco, Fogo Crusado, Abuso Sonoro, love it! I hope to visit Brazil one day, seems like such a great country to explore
Just had to check out and found out that Ratos (the only one I know from those, lol) is still active - and launching new studio albums too. They're out of my musical preferences nowadays, but nice to see them still going.

Hmm...if I can mention the past, I would say early IRA!, early Paralamas do Sucesso and the formation of Barão Vermelho with Cazuza. I can't remember any recent one that are purely rock, I've been slacking in the national music. Recent ones that I know are mostly pop now. But I kinda think Cachorro Grande and Deadfish are ok for rock.
EDIT: Don't know if they can be classified as rock, but if they do I love Legião Urbana.
Are we talking Shaman or Paralamas ? =P
I LOVE Pato Fu ... some of their stuff is the most pure "HOW does this band was such a huge sucess ????? they are SO crazy" in a "cover of a punk band from USP" and the "toy instruments" live is AWESOME
And I can't get enoght love to a band that has the LOVELY combination of a song with japanese lyrics with Muppets remixing which has a music video with mechas

I have been hearing Huaska a lot ..... but my favorite is probably Macaco Bong and it's Math/Post/Prog Metal/Rock
I really like Capital Inicial, and Titãs have some really good stuff too.
But mostly what I hear of música nacional is Lulu Santos and Pitty. Judge me if you can.

Banda Malta and, I think it's Move Over the band with the red haired singer, they are great. I've never paid much attention to the performances because I'm usually doing something else in parallel, but these 2 bands sounded great.

When I began caring about/buying music I jumped straight to foreign bands, so while I liked some national songs playing on the radio, I never cared to check who were playing.
My bass teacher introduced me to some mainstream bands I should know. Still don't remember what those were, of course.
I watched it once with my lass, liked it and now watch it when I'm not too sleepy. I'm cheering for the band with the girl with red hair (dat voice) and the one who totally should play Jamiroquai.
I don't remember their names. I might have a problem.

You guys really like this Superstar thing? Its so bad. The "judges" are the worst. I can't stand either of them. They have the "what am I even doing here" face all the time and give no decent advice whatsoever to the bands. Completely lost. Ivete tries it too hard, she is forced as hell. Fabio Jr is useless. Dinho is decent but he seems to be on drugs every time he talks.
But then again the bands themselves are pretty bad imo. I watched the first episode I think and I wanted to kill myself after hearing some of those cringe-worthy performances. Like, seriously, just no. The only decent one was Malta IIRC, because the main singer could actually sing. As far as these talent shows go, I think The Voice is much better because its format is actually entertaining and it actually values the, erm, voice, while this Superstar thing is so much more based on popularity and the "hey vote so that you face can appear live" value than anything else. And lets face it people vote for everyone, liking the band or not, just so that they have a tiny chance to appear.
As anything else Globo produces, whoever wins this will fade into obscurity two months afterwards anyway, so its not like it matters really. lol

Totally agree about the judges, lol. Such random comments. I go back to playing on the Vita when they start to talk.

For me it would be kind of hard to go into meeting in Curitiba but if it's in São Paulo then I could go more easily.

A minha preferida de todos os tempos é Legião Urbana. Acho uma pena que não consegui ir em um show deles por ser muito novo na época. Espero conseguir ir em um show do Capital Inicial antes deles acabarem.
Sobre o encontro, eu só poderia ir em algo em Brasília... Acho que são poucas pessoas daqui que são dessa região. Eu moro em Minas, mas é pertinho daqui, tipo umas duas horas de carro.

Seria bom se o Brasil ganhasse, mas acho que também será merecido se perdermos. Tirando alguns jogadores, até agora esta seleção não me parece lá muito merecedora de ser campeã. Porém, também achava disso da de 2002 até a semifinal, então... Espero que essa também mostre que merece.
