Seriously.

I stopped watching season 4 about a month back and I noticed this thread has just spiked in posts so I just watched episode 8 and 9.

It's the end of the season. Lots of excited people. Happens with all shows.

stop spoiling the shit out of The Shield jesus christ. We were having some interesting discussions.

So are we. It's relevant to this thread, if you guys don't like it, tough shit. I'll spoil tag stuff from now on (although I didn't spoil anything anyway) but seriously, you guys need to chill out. We're directly comparing the shows, it's not off topic.

And you thought you'd come in here and have it spoiled for you? That seems like a bad idea.

GTFO of this thread!

"You're gonna need to get your car fixed." aka Go watch the rest before someone spoils it for you!

I don't know why people were so put off by that shot of Gus, people act weird while in shock. OCD Gus unthinkingly adjusting his tie is just unconscious instinct. Not that he new half his face was gone but wants his tie to look right "LIKE A BOSS" or something.

Because when everything else in that room was burnt to cinders - not to mention half of Gus' head. There is no way he should have been able to walk out of that room. None. Twitch on the ground in a bloody heap of prac blood whilst trying to fix his tie, sure. But it was incredibly cheesy.

Bullshit, the majority of your posts are shitting up this thread with dumb retarded comments (as opposed to valid criticism/analysis) and how somehow this doesn't measure up to the shield.

It smacks of you somehow being overly invested in that show and showing a weird insecurity complex that alot of people like this show more. You've contributed nothing to this thread.

Well, I wanted to know for sure whether the burned face statuette in Gale's apartment was a coincidence or not, so I rewatched what little time we had in that apartment in season 3, and it turns out it's visible during Gus' late-night visit.

Considering they didn't even know whether they were going to kill Gus until writing episode 3 of season 4, there's no way in hell that this is anything other than a complete (and fortuitous!) coincidence. Still, awesome nonetheless.

You haven't had anything spoiled for you. The shows are thematically similar (this is obvious in the pilot) but nothing said in this thread will tip you off to the twists and turns.

Thought it MIGHT be a spoiler if I tell you that a certain character, let's call him Mick Vackey to keep it mysterious, dies half way through season 4!

A female actor is called an actress. A female waiter is called a waitress. A female asshole is a bitch.

Sure, we don't need to assign gender to our words, but we do it for some reason. I'd be happy with just calling her an asshole too but other people would find it odd.

I agree with that.
The word bitch does have "female" in the meaning..

Not that calling all females bitches is right or anything, but I agree with the asshole/bitch thing.. I guess it's kind of weird.

OT: So the Shield is really worth watching? How does it compare with Breaking Bad? I tried getting into The Wire during Breaking Bad's absence and it did nothing for me.

OMG, this post is straight blasphemy. The Wire is the realest show on tv forreal, only show I think that could give it a run for it's money would be Sopranos.

The Shield is definitely worth watching too.

The Wire = Sopranos > The Shield > Breaking Bad

If you're looking for a new show you should check out Homeland

I think it's more justifiable to like Vic in The Shield because, despite being a cunt and abusing his power, across the seasons he does do a lot of good police work and help a lot of people.

That doesn't make up for the bad things, but yeah, I can understand people seeing something to like in Vic more.

I'm baffled that this show is getting credit for treading well-worn ground (and no not just The Shield, but The Sopranos even before that) and people treating it like it's doing anything original, surprising or of exceptional quality. When it does try to innovate, it falls laughably short (the plane crash, the fugue state, Gus's ultimate end, deviating from the show's established structure only to have Walt disappear for most of an episode to execute a contrived twist that even the writers have admitted they don't know how he pulled off).

I'm expressing my opinion about Breaking Bad in the Breaking Bad thread. Comparisons to similar works of fiction in the same medium that preceded it fall in line with that discussion. Along with such comparisons I have made numerous posts that strictly commented on my feelings on specific episodes as they aired, for many a week now. Go find someone else to stalk.

RT @timcarvell: Breaking Bad is actually a pre-witness-relocation-program prequel to "Malcolm in the Middle".

Makes sense!
haha

Tyrus should have walked out after Gus, with the smug look on his face, but then the camera pans down AND HE IS JUST A SKELETON BODY! And then he falls.

I'm a little put off that Walt gets to look fairly heroic. Team Walt-ers can now brush off his evil acts because Brock pulled through and because his neighbor got home safely, ignoring the fact that he has continuously and systemmatically jeopardized the lives of those around him.

Hell, I won't be surprised if at some point this conversation happens:

Hank: You know, that gambling story never did sit right with me.
Walt: No?
Hank: No, I never bought it. But I didn't know what you were really up to until now.
Walt: What's that? *clutches gun hidden under table*
Hank: The cancer thing drove you crazy, man. You thought you were dying and started worrying about the world you were leaving to your kids. You went on that ride-along with me and got crazy about the drugs and gang violence. Something snapped in your brain, brother, and you decided you had to clean up the scum. You went underground and undercover and single-handedly took down the cartel and the biggest meth distributor this side of the Rio Grand. *laughs* Jesus, Walt, you're the goddamned Batman on steroids, you sexual tyrannosaur!

*audience masturbates*

mattiewheels

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
I never looked at the 'spoiler' photo, was it a picture of half-Gus? Can't seem to find it in the thread...

Personally I think it would have been a better ending if Brock died. Walt's going so far he needs some repercussions now, Hank is recovering and Brock is out safe?! And the neighbour went in and out without any harm.

You've got a point. It would have been interesting to see Walt's reaction after he found out that Brock passed away.

walt's a goddamn hero:

- lets jane die so jesse can sober up. HE SAVED JESSE'S LIFE.
- kills two thugs by running them over with his car. shoots one of them in the head because the sucker survived.
- kills one of the largest meth distributors in the country, his helper and a former big player in the drug market with a suicide bomb he made... AND HE DOESN'T EVEN PUSH THE BUTTON.

walt cleaned up the streets of new mexico. walt won. the people of new mexico won.

I still think Walt will die saving Jesse at the end. They'll let him get a tiny amount of redemption by sacrificing himself.

No way. If anything the show will end with Walt killing Jesse. Walt is not going to be a likable character by the end of it all, the entire show is about him transforming into a ruthless asshole.

I still think what will fuck Walt over is when Jesse finally gets his head out of his ass and figures out what happened there.

Walt will go to Jesse when he starts his new meth lab underneath the car wash, and Jesse will use that as leverage to get his revenge for being used like a pawn.

I thought that it was a fantastic episode. Love that Walt is falling farther into the depths of monsterdom.

I had been trying really hard to avoid spoilers - not reading this thread and avoiding entertainment websites - and about two hours before I watched the episode, I got spoiled in regards to Gus's death. :/ Thankfully, the spoiler just said that he died, and not HOW he died. And it was super obvious that he would be killed, but still. Spoilers. :/

It's a bit disappointing that the writers hid when/how Walt poisoned Brock, but I think it worked out well in the end.

lol, I completely misinterpreted that spoiler pic when I first saw it. I thought it was a picture of Gus in the mirror, adjusting his tie like he was about to go to work or something. I was like "wtf, why the hell is dude going to work after half his face was blown off? He's gonna get some type of infection in there, sheesh!"

I didn't even catch the fact that the background was the aftermath of an explosion.

I still can't get over how dumb the Gus scene was, what were they thinking? lol What was the point? We already knew Gus was badass/professional that just threw it waaaaay over the top for no reason.

You are probably right, but Walt has already proven that when things get simple, he gets bored.

Remember when Hank considered the Heisenberg case over with? Instead of that being a blessing in his eyes, he wanted the credit for his genius. He can't go back to making a normal wage IMO. Though, it would be pretty ridiculous to think he could convince Skyler to build a little lab under the car wash. That definitely won't happen.

The show needs a Cowboy Bebop style ending. The series should end with
Walt and Jesse killing each other, like Spike and Vicious.

Its weird, doing something like that is a double edge sword and those scenes always end up growing on me (except the twins).

Gus was very much a cliche bad guy in many ways, and i dont really see BB as a series that's heavily grounded to reality. I mean it is in terms of actions and consequences, but crazy, stylized stuff happens. Its gonna ring some bells when you a bit over the top, but it was sort of a pulpy action movie scene and a way to give the character a memorable final scene.

Considering Walt wasnt even there to kill Gus himself, an explotion with them just showing the corpse (or nothing at all) would have been extremely disappointing and lacklusting. People will be talking about this scene for years, for better or worse.
