Breaking Bad - Season 5 interim thread - the series concludes Summer 2013 on AMC

Just finished season 5 again. I still don't get the complaints that Skylar's a bad character.

She's annoying.
She's fucking stupid.
She's bitchy.

But she's not a bad character.

I think it's because she's one of the most realistic characters on BB. Everyone's blowing shit up the entire time and she ruins the fun. But IMO it makes perfect sense and the character's motivations are well-explained.

Was watching Say My Name and smiled at the shot from the POV of the lawyer's arm in the scene where he is paying off Mike's guys. I just love that there are all these visually interesting and fun montages in an otherwise dark, tense show. It's a nice contrast.

Just watched the episode "Fifty-One" again. That one ends with the closeup of the watch ticking. I think a lot of people thought that it was a bit heavy-handed with the "ticking time bomb" theme that Mike said earlier. However, on rewatch, there's more to it than that.

The watch is on top of Leaves of Grass.

I'm gonna have a Breaking Bad party during the premiere. Around 10 people are coming. I still remember when every single one of them would dismiss the show because it sounded stupid. Once Netflix put it up they all gave it a shot and got hooked.

something cool I noticed on rewatch when Walt is testing his c4 he taps the walkie talkie several times before it works

tio of course taps the bell mutiple times

I also watched S05 again. That moment where Mike knows he's caught and looks at Kaylee for the last time is so sad :(

And as everyone said - S05 was way better than I remembered it to be. Great stuff.

Gonna be weird to be on a strict schedule again for a TV show after watching so many at leisure on Netflix and on video. CANT WAIT

The one complaint i have with skylar besides her being the weak link in the show in terms of acting is that horrendous plastic surgery. I think she was beautiful in season 1,2,

so im finally catching up on netflix.

i find myself skipping all the domestic scenes - skyler and walt problems and focusing solely on the drug deals etc. That stuff bores me. I just wiki what happens.

Honestly that shit is so bad. who wants to see 15 minutes of Skyler breaking down constantly. We fucking get it.

Enjoy it or not, I don't understand how somebody could consume media this way. Sounds horrible.

this show is good. but the fucking home drama is absolutely terrible and boring. It's absolutely uninteresting and if I didn't do it I would have stopped watching this show a long time ago.

Gus Fring was awesome. Tuco was awesome, but all the domestic inbetween with Skyler, Hank, Hank's wife's kleptomaniac bullshit blah blah. Absolutely terrible.

How many scenes do we need of them sitting down to dinner talking and eating? Fucking really?

Did someone just call hank boring.....aw hell nah I've sat through the skylar bashing but this has gone too far

Also it sounds like you must not like many shows if you only like the high action/intense parts

Wow, skipping the domestic scenes?
The scene in season 1 where Walt tells the family his reasons for not wanting the treatment is fucking brilliant, for example.

Never, ever try watching The Sopranos or Mad Men. Especially Mad Men, you'll just end up fast-forwarding through the whole series :p

How do you know it's so bad if you're always skipping it?

Yeah that is definitely one of the best scenes in the series. The domestic scenes are what make the series great imo. They reveal character and motivations that further punctuate the "action" scenes.

I liked Season 5a but it moved so fast and was action-action-action. I feel like it could have used a few more "pillow scenes".

I mean, a good portion of the series does drag, I would have found watching it as it originally aired unbearable at times. Being able to watch multiple episodes back to back alleviates those problems.

S5 has some of the best drama between Skyler/Walt. Ep4 is fantastic. I just can't imagine anyone thinking that fight is boring or 'not needed'. You know which one.

This is queen.

That you people can't appreciate.

(that oh god gif was funny though, lol)

On S4 in my rewatch and Skyler for the most part is cool and reasonable. The scenes with her and Saul are fantastic. In S5 I actually did sympathize with her struggling with her role in Beneke's paralysis. That she evokes so much emotion from viewers, either way, says a lot about how great her character is.

But I don't like her odds of making it out the series alive. Some one close to Walt will die, they have to... odds favor her or Pinkman over Jr. or Holly.

I'm glad for that actually. These scenes are unbearable in season 5.1. But not because they are bad, but because of just how deluded Walt is. His interactions with Skyler are painful, they made me feel uneasy and nauseous. I'm on the camp that says Walt has always been bad, only this is becoming more and more apparent as the time goes, but in 5.1 he becomes outright despicable. Every bullshit line that he spouts is painful, not only to Sky but to Jesse too.

i don't hate those scenes quite as much as you do, but yeah I find myself enjoying them less and less. if walt's family had to go into seclusion and didn't show up for a few episodes i wouldn't mind a bit.

In this thread, I learned that a lot of people cannot spell "Skyler."

Just be glad most aren't still spelling it with a "b"

And Anna Gunn hasn't had surgery, I think it's just a case of being a little chubbier than she was in season 1-2 and because she never gets to smile much in the episodes she's in.

Yup.

It's spelled skysky.

nameless coming around on skysky, it's a glorious day.

I really hope walt falls because of her. Like even if she dies, that credit card charge for the printer paper will come back and bite him.

Someone refresh my memory. What does Walt Jr. think his dad does for a living now, if anything?

Also, Junior's a prime candidate to die, moreso than Holly in my opinion.
