Just got a youtube ad claiming Turkey is going to join the EU and transplant its population here. So much for thinking positive.

I really don't get the Turkey-thing. A pretty significant part of the whole argument of leaving seems to be that the UK has no sovereignity and that, basically, Germany alongside with France is just dominating the EU. Now considering what currently happens with Turkey pissing of Germany, how could one possibly argue that Turkey is gonna join the EU anytime soon?

"Project Fear" indeed.

Apparently it's bad to be afraid of self inflicted recession, but being afraid of brown people is fine.

Interesting article. 'Brexit could spell the death of Northern Ireland'

It's not as though Northern Ireland is in great shape to begin with. Given its tiny population (1.8 million - equivalent to the size of Hampshire), its engorged public sector and its high, structural poverty and worklessness, it should think twice before jumping off the ledge.

The more interesting question is whether if Britain did find itself outside the EU, with demands from pro-EU majorities in both Northern Ireland and Scotland for referendums on leaving the UK, would the British political class exert much effort in trying to save Northern Ireland?

A report by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) on the 'Structure of the NI Economy,' published in December 2015, highlights how peripheral Northern Ireland's economy is to the UK as a whole.

Its output was worth just £37 billion (roughly equivalent to the value of Yemen’s), compared to £129 billion for Scotland and 1.6 trillion for the UK as a whole. So although Northern Ireland makes up 2.8% of the UK’s total population, it comprises just 2.2% of its overall economy.

Even accounting for the size differentials, this is pretty marginal. And given its deep-seated economic problems and tiny contribution to the UK economy, Northern Ireland also requires £9 billion a year from the British exchequer to stay afloat.

No it couldn't. Every political leader here had debunked this fucking crap.

I'm not saying Brexit is going to lead to reunification (though even Richard Haas was saying today it's a possibility), but how is Brexit going to be in any way good for our already shit economy? The only suggestion I can think of is with all this money we're *supposedly* going to save from leaving the EU, the Tories will be throwing cash from helicopters all over NI, and I think we can rule that out.

I am so confused now. On the one hand remain are telling me that voting to leave will make ISIS happy. Yet leave are telling me to vote leave or ISIS will shoot me. I am starting to think that perhaps they should both shut the fuck up.

Considering this whole thing has absolutely zero influence on terrorism and the ability of illegal immigrants getting into the UK, that might be a good idea.

Maybe terrorism isn't an easy fix issue and the people running the fucking country or trying to shouldn't use them to score points.

In other words, yeah, I agree.

I think he was more asking what Farage had to do with that tweet. Or is "Farage at his best" just the "Thanks Obama" of Remainers?

I have nothing against the people that vote leave. I have everything against racist or doom posts. You will see by my posts in here I have had a go at both sides.

Every time I think we might actually leave, I wonder how I'm going to explain to my kids how we let such a colossal fuck up happen. That's going to be a fun conversation.

I hope that poll is accurate, but it's pretty hard to trust them after the last election. There could be a 'shy remainer' effect which would require leave to be ahead in all polls going into the vote.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll be desperate to know why we left the EU. I know I never stopped badgering my grand father about why he let the League of Nations fail.

Well Wade Barret was quitting anyway, so they kick- Wait, wrong one.

I assume they'll ask if World War 3 happens though, as our greatest minds have predicted!

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I just can't believe that three people as odious as Boris, Gove and Farage are actually winning the PR battle.

I pray that Remain manages to pull something out of the hat in the next 10 days, it's depressing how well the "scary brown people" line is working.

The conservatives are going to take a back seat no on the remain camp, as there is a internal feeling that people are voting on the Government and they need Labour voters to come onboard

But really, is that something you're worried about? The EU isn't some land of milk and honey that we're walking away from (*if* we leave). Yoghurt and honey, maybe, in Greece, but look what's happened to them!
I'm currently more concerned about the other implications it might have in empowering the far right.

EU's Tusk says Brexit could threaten western political civilization.

BERLIN (Reuters) - If Britons vote to leave the European Union in a June 23 referendum it could be the beginning of the end for the 28-nation bloc and for western political civilization more generally, European Council President Donald Tusk said.

In an interview with German newspaper Bild, Tusk said a so-called Brexit vote would provide a major boost to radical anti-European forces who he said would be "drinking champagne".

"Why is it so dangerous? Because no one can foresee what the long-term consequences would be," Tusk said. "As a historian I fear that Brexit could be the beginning of the destruction of not only the EU but also of western political civilization in its entirety."

Everyone in the European Union would lose out economically if Britain left, Tusk said.

Death of the political class? good.

Death of western civilisation? The EU's spent 20 years digging a grave for it.

There is no "scary brown people" line.

Enough with this childish assumption that people want to leave the EU because they're racist.

You don't think it's moronic to dismiss the fact that a far higher proportion of Leave voters are racist or express racist sentiment?

It looks like a duck and I'm sure I just heard a quack...

Definitely feels like a reversal in the polls since June started! Now it looks like a case of polls where Remain is ahead being the minority.

For people going off the bookies' odds, I saw this in an article on The Week:

According to Betfair, odds now place a 64.5 per cent implied probability on a Remain win, which marks a near 14-point fall since last Thursday.

The fact we'll be leaving because "fuck immigrants" is my biggest worry.
Setting a horrible horrible tone for years to come
