Brexit | OT3 | A Feast for Crows

Remember when Macron won the election he played Ode to Joy to walk out to.

Um, whilst I’m vehemently against Brexit and consider it one of the most stupid things ever, there is a kernel of truth in that article. London didn’t become the worlds financial hub out of convenience - there are a huge amount of structural reasons why it succeeded and other cities didn’t. You can’t just instantly replicate that, and Europe will be worse off for not having access to the city and the investment and financial tools available there.

Of course, the City will be *far* worse off - both sides suffer, but one side suffers vastly, vastly more than the other.

I'm not denying this, the whole thing is incredibly stupid.

Asking the biggest EU fan on earth to undermine the EU itself sure makes sense, Prime Minister.

Really. First going to meet Merkel before her having a proper coalition and secondly trying to convince Macron to sabotage EU? Like having no awareness at all.

By definition voting to Leave the EU already confirmed to the world 52% of the electorate has no awareness of anything at all.

Maybe Theresa May thinks that the Mrs Doyle method of negotiating will work and Merkel or Macron will eventually concede and sabotage the EU and their credibility to appease Britain if she's persistent enough.

In other unsurprising news: Grayling's claims that UK can grow more food dismissed as 'tripe'

“This is not about ploughing the verges to grow more food, it’s about the absence of any food policy,” added Batters. “We haven’t had a food policy for 43 years,” she said pointing out that national food and environmental policy has been led by the EU since the UK joined the European Economic Community in 1973.

Laurence Olins, who chairs British Summer Fruits, said: “When I saw that interview, my mouth dropped and I thought this needs to be addressed,” he said. “I was just horrified. It is just indicative of the un-coordinated way the government is approaching Brexit. Our farmers are unable to find labour this year, never mind post-Brexit.

“I have farmers who are moving to Portugal because they know they are able to hire people from the subcontinent. They know this. To hear Grayling come out with this tripe beggars belief,” said Olins.

...

While CAP has been criticised in the past for supporting inefficient agricultural practices, Roberts has said Welsh farmers were so impoverished they could not survive without the subsidy. Their annual income would fall from an average of £13,000 to £4,000 a year.

Roberts said that the economic modelling of Defra and detailed data published by the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board last week, “predict pretty cataclysmic collapses in many or most agricultural sectors in the event of harder Brexit ‘no-deal’ type scenarios”.

"Brexit OT(n+1) - Just farm HARDER"
Juncker and Barnier at least get a full dinner out of being courted. Macron only gets a hasty phone call. I would have thought she'd try to appeal to a Frenchman with yummy food, like dunno, a basket of British delicacies, or during a tea time afternoon snack with cake, but nah, who ever heard of attacking a man through his stomach.

Can't wait for the postmortem report of the EU dinner, though. Last time Juncker called her delusional and gave her some printed out treaties by the bucketload to impress upon her just how much work goes into those. I wonder, will he bring a flip chart this time? "My first Brexit - a twelve-slide adventure into the wonderful world of EU and U. Please take notes, there will be a quiz afterwards - and the winners get candy!"

Why wouldn't that be on the front page of the entire paper, rather than just in the business supplement? Am I missing something here?

Because it's the equivalent of an estate agent valuing your house at 100k one month and 80k the next.

It's still the same house and the chances are it's still worth 100k, who knows until you actually try to sell it.

Smacks of a propaganda exercise tbh.

Actually it is how this stuff works.

Hello, my ami. I would je voudrais you to convincer the other EU leaders to do exactly what you've said you wouldn't do all this time. Because that makes sense. N'est-ce pas?

While we're at it, you want some of the finest export products the prosperous UK economy has to offer? British cake?

Huh.

That wouldn't happen to be the same Chris Grayling who in the beginning of 2016 stated the negotiations would easily be painless and a deal would be done in a relatively short time, who is now saying today that we all knew this was going to be a long and tough negotiation period and that no deal was always the most likely outcome?

That same Cunt?

So who will you blame when (not if) it won't?

If what won't?

The UK has a couple of billion trade deficit a month with Germany alone.

A deal will be done. They'll all put a show on to show the electorate how hard they are fighting but none the less, a deal will be done.

I'm not particularly worried if it isn't done tbh,but I'm looking mid to long term and not graph to graph.

"Hello Macron, please spend political capital undermining Barnier and the EU negotiating position that all remaining member states signed off on and in the process torpedo the EU reforms you proposed recently. Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on."

No that doesn't work.

Sure enough:

Theresa May's last-ditch attempt to persuade European leaders to open talks on a transition period look doomed to fail as Downing Street appeared to rule out fresh concessions on the UK's divorce bill and Brussels hardened its approach days away from a crunch summit.

Calls to the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and the Irish taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, along with a 90-minute dinner in Brussels with the European commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker, and his chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, failed to move the dial in the prime minister's favour, with senior diplomats insisting the UK had not done enough.

Wah wah wah.

People buying German cars and high quality German engineering products will continue to do so. The Germans will actually be ok. We want their shit and there is no substitute for their shit that will not have the same exact tariff. So having a trade deficit with Germany is not a point of actual leverage. That is not how that works. Not that you'd understand, you have demonstrated on numerous occasions your tenuous grip on reality.

So as I expected, this was a cap in hand visit to say 'we are fucked unless we can tell parliament something'

and there it is........... 'accelerate' ...........learn it well folks as that is all you are going to hear for the next 12 hours, it will be trotted out by every Tory who can squeeze in front of a camera...

The EU agreed to 'accelerate'. I am convinced more than ever that the UK is about to capitulate on the amount of money we will pay if they can use it as a 'trade deal' fee to cover up the head explosions from Brexit MP's

That’s not what this is about - at all. For the love of god please read some actual informed commentary on this, rather than parrot gibberish talking points. It’s not as bad as the telegraph headline makes out, but it’s not good and it’s not as simple or dumb as you make it out to be.

Also, the pro-brexit Telegraph taking part in anti-brexit propaganda? The newspaper that’s been making a living off EU disaster porn for the last 5 years? What the hell are you smoking that leaves you thinking the *Telegraph* is anti brexit? What next, the Daily Express?

Ah, I see. The old ‘it’s not going to happen stupid sheeples, but even if it doesn’t I’m not bothered because in my wisdom I’m gazing at the stars to see the future’.

What a load of condescending tripe. The fact you can be objectively wrong, multiple times, and still think you know better than all those tricky experts is just sad. Combine that with the fact this shit is fucking over many peoples lives right now, and will do so for many years to come, and you don’t care because you know better and are the only person with the true wisdom to see the bigger picture is just embarrassing.

You don’t respond to points taking apart your argument. You repeatedly post inaccurate rubbish or plain lies. You haven’t even the most basic understanding of the topics at hand. Yet you still think you’re the smart guy whose in the know and the rest of us are dumb. That takes impressive self denial.

sure germany will sacrifice the integrity of the european union for some profits... also what makes you think germany will not be able to export cars to UK after brexit?

I agree with you that a deal will be done. Not the deal May wants, though.
Yes, Germany exports a lot to the UK. But the thing is Germany exports far more to all the other countries in the European Union. EU integrity >>> UK trade deal.

I have never understood the argument about German cars, it will still be a level playing field for their products, I can't see many being arsed to boycott them.

Brexit isn‘t even an important topic in Germany at the moment. We need a new government first and got lots of inner political conflicts. The EU will handle the Brexit and we will vote on the final deal. There is no need to undermine the negotiation process because Britain is slow and won‘t accept the consequences of Brexit. Juncker and May say they want to accelerate the process but in reality that won‘t change anything on the EU side. I think most people are just baffled by the way Britain has handled Brexit so far and thinks it‘s so special that none of the EU rules apply.
