Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
Dunno if you root and change the ROM etc on your Android devices, but Paranoid Android's more recent builds run everything butter smooth on mine.
.

I root and mess around like nuts, It's why I'm not moving from Android. I assumed the Nexus would be good for this, better than the Xperia for it anyway and it has Jellybean up-gradable as standard.

Was St Stephens. Still is St. Stephens. In my heart. Renaming it to Elizabeth Tower was absolutely pointless since no one calls it by its real name anywho.

2 points to you.

what a terrible opinion...

Thanks!

Actually, I totally agree - Roger Moore closely followed by Connery.

Is this the first time this has happened??

I haven't read any of the Bond books so I have no idea what you're all on about. Moore was my childhood Bond which is why he is best Bond for me. I'm not totally sold on Craig yet. Connery is second best Bond.

The Xperia T has an unlockable bootloader (officially supported by Sony) and they get CM10 ported by the FreeXperia team who have got CM10 (Jelly Bean) working on the Xperia T already. It is a feature complete build as well because they work with Sony and get the sources directly from them.

Not only that but the lead coder from Samsung ROM making has basically jumped shipped to Sony/Xperia T because he doesn't like the way Samsung don't release their sources for Exynos based devices, while Sony have always been very fast to release sources for the community to work on and build mods around.

If you want to root and mess around then the Xperia T is pretty good, and if you want to wait for official Jelly Bean, it's not that far away either.

Then you are forgiven, but the basic point is that the films added a whole load of tropes that they now feel they have to pander too that were not in the books, such as:

Q (at least not like in the movies)
Silly Gadgets
Countless Innuendo (Bond is far more direct)
The tux
Casino's (he only gets sent to one in Royale as he is their best gambler)

They removed (over the years):

Bond being a govt wetworker / hitman (being brought back)
Smoking
Booze
Misogyny

I still think they should scale back the budget, lose the product placement and make then period pieces frankly, Bond outside the Cold War is hard to buy, can hardly see him doing what actual MI6 field agents get up to these days, training Iranians to spy on nuclear facility's / sabotage them if needed etc...

All sounds very interesting. Would you recommend I start reading the books then? And where should I start/what order to read them in?

You're going to love Skyfall.

Guy guys GUYS. Come on. James Bond films almost universally (with the exception of Casino Royale) suck. They're all badly structured, overlong, sag terribly in the middle and age badly.

Arguing about the best ones is like debating the comparitive merits of the Harry Potter novels or something.

And Daniel Craig is the best Bond since he's the only one with a convincingly military feel to him. But that's like saying the Prisoner of Azkaban is the best Harry Potter. IT'S STILL OBJECTIVELY NOT THAT GOOD.

Isn't part of it catering to the current generation though, by trying to make the obstacle Bond has to overcome as being relevant to the time we live in.

Cold war Bond worked great but such was the nature of world politics at the time. While many of us would appreciate more films in this vain, I think they could alienate part of their audience by not making the conflict pertinent to now.

Die Another Day (I know, I know...) tried to make it relevant for the now with bringing the Korean conflict into it and I think it was the right idea, just the film was poorly executed. Craig's films so far have tried to this to an extent - I've been keeping a total blackout going on Skyfall as best I can - but the details of that, the relevance of Bond in a cyber warfare environment (from some snippets I've heard) could be good if pulled off right.

Casino Royale first, if you like the writing style (it's pretty short) then hop on to From Russia with Love (JFK's favourite spy novel), Moonraker (way different to the film), Live and Let Die and any others that take your fancy. Just excuse the flagrant racism in LaLD, it was the 50's...

As have I.

On another note, first post in the new thread of new stuff!
Currently eating mini Kellogs cereal boxes, they were from Home & Bargain so they're some sort of Arab import version.

Does anyone here use sites like topcashback or quidco? They claim to give cashback on purchases made online. They both have good reviews but thought I'd ask anyway.

OK, I'll admit that Bond movies are essentially trash. I definitely agree that they're generally too long and bloated and DEFINITELY too self-important.

But the Harry Potter books are funtastic. They're kids books, remember - they serve as a great introduction to adult reading because Rowling wears her inspirations on her sleeve - there's Tolkien, Herbert and Adams written all over the Harry Potter books.

Quidco is more legit I guess? The company I work for uses them to provide benefits for our customers. I've also had no hassle with them getting cash back to register when it didn't work.

Edit: Also 50% off the new Medal of Honor on Origin brings it down to £20: quote for hidden

People in CheapAddGAFfer seem to love quidco. I'm a bit sceptical about sharing my bank details online so I haven't used it myself.

And I just saw the PM. :(

Roger Moore has that confidence swagger to him compared to others that make him look cheesy. I get the feeling that while other Bonds have that tiny bit of doubt in their mind that something wrong will happen whenever they're on a mission, Moore doesn't and he - perhaps - he doesn't care. Also, Lazenby didn't do a bad job at Bond and it isn't right to judge him based on only one film. That's like saying Robbie Williams would be a great Bond based on that music vi- oh....

What about favourite villain and Bond girl?

Yeah I've used Quidco for a while. Definitely not a con, but the problem with Quidco last time I checked was they take the first £5 of cashback you make a year as their fee. So you need to be spending a fair bit to make the most of it. Amazon isn't covered either. The hard part is remembering to go through Quidco to enable the cashback every time you make an online checkout. Money normally is confirmed in a month or two.
But you can sign up your credit/debit cards to it for use in physical stores/cinemas, which is great, and adds up on phone contracts and big ticket purchases.

Bond Girl: Eva Green.

Also Moore was my favourite, those were the ones I watched the most as a kid. Fucking love those old bond movies.

The best thing about Harry Potter is they prove ANYONE can be a writer if they want to. Because the prose in the first Harry Potter book (the only one I read) is fucking abysmal. It reeks of condesension and tweeness and the stupid Dickensian naming scheme makes me want to kill tiny animals in my rage. Oooh, this person is called Reginald Tiddlybottom, he must be nice. Oh and this guy is called Tristan Evilbastard, he must be bad. Fuck off Rowling.

But yes, they do serve as a good INTRODUCTION to reading for sure. Meaning that if you have read more than one book before, you should not be stooping so low as to retard yourself by reading them.

Haaaaaaaaaaate :D

My missus says the Phillip Pullman books are better. So there.

I gotta agree with you here. I struggled through the first book and didn't bother with the others. I just didn't think it was that good.

Watch "Meet The Feebles". Every time you see Gandalf afterwards you can't help but have a flashback to seeing a puppet walrus in a suit, smoking a cigar and being... Um... Orally pleasured. It truly is one of Jackson's finest moments.

I use quidco, builds up eventually, good when buying stuff like big appliances can save like £20.

Had a good offer with William Hill lately, place a £20 bet get £15 quidco, not to mention William Hill offer a free bet upto £25 if you sign up with a code too. Free money!

I really hope that's not an attack on Pullman too, because His Dark Materials is a great series too.

I can't believe the Harry Potter hate in this thread :(

I'm trying really hard to come up with something for my book at the moment, perhaps you guys can help me?

It's quasi-steampunk Victorian London esque.

I need a name for the city. I don't want it to be a real city, obviously, but I want it to sound wintery, isolated and London-like.

I'm normally not terrible with names, but I'm struggling like crazy with this.

I still can't believe he padded King Kong into a 3-hour movie.

He has managed to turn the Hobbit into around 8 hours worth of footage (plus possible extended editions). Dude needs to learns how to film less shit.

I was looking forward to it, but now I'm out. Fuck it, three movies is too much.

Harry Potter's great. I found all of those little quirks in Rowling's writing rather charming, personally. I'm not a big reader but I've tried other book series and while they were enjoyable, none have ever really enchanted me
lol

No, it was a Pullman endorsment, Mrs Sniv loved them and they did sound pretty cool.

City names huh... how about a page from the Rowling playbook - Chillyton or Coldchester (lol) or something. Or failing those excellent suggestions, how about looking into history for old names of English cities? Or just set in in steampunk Slough. The word Slough conjurs up all the imagery you're describing perfectly!

EDIT: it's a real name of a rural area in Surrey but Peperharrow is a great place name. It could be an alternate reality where a city was built there and grew large, maybe even eclipsing London and leaving London smaller and less developed.

I was mildly interested in The Hobbit. Then it was announced that it was going to be three films. Then it was announced that it wasn't even going to be 48fps in most cinemas. The interest poured out of me like violent liquid poo.
