Isn't it all about Krav Maga these days? Or the Keysi Batman Method? Kung Fu seems a bit elegant for toilet fighting.
MMA gyms are all the rage now. Muay-thai, wrestling and jiu-jitsu. I've been meaning to join one since I'm starting to get bored of the treadmill. Krav Maga looks so badass though.
I don't know. I doubt muggers would know the difference.

I've said before on GAF that the idea of commercialised Krav Maga comes across as a buzzword for shake n' bake self defence classes. I'd be wary of gyms teaching that just like I would any potential McDojo. Or even worse: a bunch of dudes just teaching people how to fuck people up without the discipline to go with it.
If you're learning a martial art for the specific purpose of self-defence then you're doing it wrong. There's too much mental preoccupation on things to remember and reliance on drills for that.
And personally I trained muay thai, submission wrestling and western boxing before warfarin took me out. I was also a brown belt in Wado-Ryu Karate.
