Brontis Jodorowsky joins Fantastic Beasts 2 as Nicolas Flamel; new updates

owNhdNH.jpg

Nicolas Flamel, a character originally mentioned in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, will appear in the new Fantastic Beasts film. Flamel, who is known in the wizarding world as an alchemist who discovered the Elixir of Life (based on the real-life alchemist of the same name), will be played by actor Brontis Jodorowsky. Flamel joins a big list of new characters confirmed to feature in the film.

So far, only a few names have been revealed, but some surnames will be familiar to Harry Potter fans. Joining the cast will be Wolf Roth as a character called Spielman; Call the Midwife star Victoria Yeates as Bunty; Derek Riddell as Torquil Travers; Poppy Corby-Tuech as Rosier; and Cornell S John as Arnold Guzman. The names ‘Travers' and ‘Rosier' stand out in particular; these last names turn up in the Harry Potter series and belong to two Death Eaters who served Lord Voldemort.

Actor and comedian Jessica Williams, best known for her work on The Daily Show, and Fiona Glascott have also been cast in the film, but their roles haven't been revealed.

The new names will be joining the central cast: Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein and Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski. Carmen Ejogo, who portrayed the no-nonsense President of MACUSA Seraphina Picquery in the first film, has now been confirmed to be returning too. And they certainly won't be alone. Earlier this year, Pottermore confirmed that Jude Law would be joining the cast as Albus Dumbledore, who is set to ‘team up' with Newt in order to take down Dark wizard Grindelwald.

Wow, any Jodorowsky in a mainstream blockbuster feels like hell freezing over. Good for him, though, and I hope that despite Alejandro's intense distaste for mainstream filmmaking, that he's proud that his son was able to land such a big job.

In for Jessica Williams and because I loved the first. Seems they took those “not enough women of color” criticisms to heart.

one of the first HP movies Harry's voice cracked while saying Nicholas Flamel's name and it still makes me crack up to this day

Is 'Fantastic Beasts 2' really the official title? Is this going to be a movie centered around magical creatures like the first one?

The first one was uneven but I mostly liked it (like every HP movie, TBH), will likely take the family to see this one too.

Isn't America literally the only place in which they called it "Sorcerer's Stone" instead of "Philosopher's Stone"?

Wow! This should be awesome! Brontis Jodorowsky was incredible in The Dance of Reality and Endless Poetry (my favorite movie of the year). It should be really cool to see this character and what type of impact they have on the universe.

It will be 'Fantastic Beasts & [new subtitle]' - it's gonna be weird having this full on Grindelwald story under the FB name. I kinda wish they were separate stories, and we could just get a globetrotting magical creature adventure.

Is this a franchise that people are excited for? The first film felt like it just sort of petered out in people's minds, even among Potter-fans.

Did the opposite for me. Had no interest until I realized it was going to be a lot more lore-driven than just some cheesy period flick about whacky Potterverse creatures.

Yeah this is suddenly taking on a very Phantom Menace vibe.

How long until they announce casting for Voldemorte?

I know you're probably joking, but this will absolutely happen so long as this franchise lasts for another couple of films.

Hell, I roundly expect James and Lilly Potter to turn up at some point.

I was (and still sort of am) excited at the prospect of more Grindelwald and other backstory stuff, but the first movie was a whole bunch of whatever. I didn't feel attached to any of the characters. Something about David Yates makes everything sterile and soulless.

The bigger thing for me here is that Jessica Williams is gonna be in an HP Universe movie.

Yessssss

I can definitely agree with this. He's a very efficient film-maker, but his films and the way they're shot always feel like they leave a lot to be desired in terms of any kind of personal or artistic touch.

F&B1 takes place like 30-40 years before Lilly and James are born. Voldemort is a new born.

This plot ends in 1945 and Voldemort would have just graduated from Hogwarts. So we may get some kind of early cameo/Death Eater tease by the end.

You'll never get an Azkaban out of him, but he's a machine. Dude had two blockbusters out in the same year. And managed to do multiple back to back HP films. He's absolutely ridiculous.

Like I can see him doing all five of these fuckers AND films between them. Can't see any other director pulling that off.

America and only in regards to Harry Potter. The philosopher's stone is an actual public domain artifact associated with alchemy. Legend has it that the alchemist Nicolas Flamel created one and achieved immortality as a result.

Agreed, but I do think Fantastic Beasts was a decided improvement from him.

However, I do hope FB3 goes to another director honestly. The HP universe needs a lot more of the type of magic Cuarón brought.

One of his houses still stands in Paris near the Pompidou Centre. It's the oldest stone house in the city. What's left of the stone carvings is quite beautiful IMO.
